Stopped in for the first time this week, looking forward to trying out some creative sounding pizza. Being tourist season, I wasn't sure what to expect as far as customer volume but during late afternoon I found there was no line at the counter and plenty of seating. The interior was also very clean. I greeted the man standing behind the counter; he responded with a short "hi" and a stare. I asked if I could do pizza by the slice and the man ran down a short list of what was available. Not catching the name of the last option, I asked if he could repeat the name, which I was hesitant to do because I had the impression that the man was angered by something. Instantly I regretted asking the question because the response I received was loud enough for the kitchen and full dining area to hear. As I don't take kindly to being nearly yelled at, I considered going somewhere else to eat but knew that many places nearby had long wait times that I couldn't stick around for on this particular day. I decided to place an order quickly and remain silent outside of a couple "thank you's" as the man was clearly close to completely losing his temper. My order consisted of two slices and a beer. The man quickly processed payment on my credit card, and proceeded to fling my card back at me, saying, "here you go." He then dropped the receipt I was to sign, repeating the same phrase, and walked away. I assumed that he left to put the order together, so I grabbed an open table to wait. The order was placed on the counter fairly quickly, and I was told it was ready. To my relief there was no further interaction after that, but I would have appreciated a "thank you" or "have a nice day." The beer was okay, the pizza was very good. Good enough for another visit? After being subjected to this level of rudeness for which I still cannot determine the reason:...
Read moreThis is the second Brickyard Hollow location I have visited. The first being their Portland Commercial Street location. So I had a general idea of what to expect before coming here, but unlike Portland (more sit down restaurant/bar style) this is a walk up order at the counter pizza shop. They had plenty of staff and it did not take too long to order despite some in front of us seeming very unsure of their order. The food was also cooked and brought out to us in a timely manner so no complaints about the service. We ordered their bacon beer cheese fries and I highly recommend this to share with your group. Secondly we got a large of their monthly special pizza; Fried Chicken & Waffles (in collaboration with Butcher Burger). At all their greater Portland area locations every month they team with another local restaurant to create a special pie that a dollar from each one sold goes to end childhood food insecurity. This was easily one of the best pizzas I have had in quite some time. Perfect balance of sweet from maple syrup and waffles and savory fried chicken goodness. I’m glad it’s a special for a limited time otherwise I’d have a problem ordering it too often. Lastly, the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is their beers. Being a brewery from Maine is a tough competition as there are so many breweries that make world class beers and Brickyard Hollow just does not reach that quality. By no means are they bad beers, just lack that wow factor or taste that makes me want to get their beers again. They pair decently well with the food though. Overall nice spot with friendly staff and tasty food with average brews. I slightly prefer the Portland location but plan to check out the other locations...
Read moreBrickyard Hollow Brewing in Freeport, ME is a great place to go for some delicious food and craft beer. I recently tried their smoked pulled pork gouda mac & cheese jalapeño cornbread pizza, farm fries, and Westcustago Stout, and I was not disappointed!
The pizza was amazing. The crust was thin and crispy, the sauce was tangy and flavorful, and the toppings were all perfectly balanced. The smoked pulled pork was tender and juicy, the Gouda mac & cheese was creamy and gooey, and the jalapeño cornbread added a nice touch of heat and sweetness. I could have eaten this pizza all day long.
The farm fries were also top-notch. They were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and they were seasoned perfectly.
And of course, no meal at Brickyard Hollow Brewing would be complete without trying one of their craft beers. The Westcustago Stout is a must-try for any fan of dark beers. It's rich and chocolatey, with a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness.
Overall, I had a great experience at Brickyard Hollow Brewing. The food was delicious, the beer was outstanding, and the service was friendly. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the...
