My family and I stayed at this hotel over the weekend for a wedding, that took place at the hotel. From the beginning at check in, it was a total nightmare. The front desk staff were all extremely rude, and seemed less than interested in helping. We had reservations for 3 rooms that were booked a few months in advance. Upon arrival, which was after 3 pm, only 1 of the 3 rooms were ready. Imagine cramming 8 people into 1 room, all that need to get ready for a wedding rehearsal that starts at 5. Front seat staff said the other rooms would be ready in about 15 minutes. Flash forward a whole hour and only 1 other room was ready. But that wasn’t until we went back up to the front desk to ask about the status of the rooms, when we were finally granted access to the second room. (mind you we were across the hall watching, 1 room was cleaned and the other hadn’t even been touched yet) we were told that the 3rd and final room would not be ready until 5pm. When asking the staff about check in being at 3, they very rudely stated “well THATS when check in starts, it’s not guaranteed” I will give props to housekeeping. They did very quickly come and clean the room and we were able to get into it about 5 minutes before we had to leave. The rest of the night went well until about 5 am when I got woke up by security to notify that my car had been broken into, they said there was a camera nearby for footage but it wasn’t a guarantee that anything would be seen, or done for that matter. Mind you, my vehicle is as not the only one I get broken into on their property that evening, let alone that whole weekend. As there were multiple Friday and Saturday night. One actually being another family member that was there from out of state. Apparently the only parking place that has 24 hour surveillance is the little parking garage. No where else has that to offer. It seems crime and breakins are common around that area so I would suggest upgrading your parking lot surveillance. Another annoying factor was that the wedding we were there for was held in the Clayton ballroom, there were several guests that were in attendance that were assigned rooms in the Clayton building. But we had rooms in the main building which was very inconvenient, especially with small children in tow. We booked our rooms off the guest reservation of blocked rooms for the wedding. You would think all the rooms “blocked” for a wedding would all be generally located around the event. I will say the service staff at the wedding reception, the bar and grill and the breakfast cafe we are super friendly, professional and accommodating. The hotel is a beautiful facility. I was very impressed with the size of the rooms. And the cleaning staff were all very kind. It would be nice if every room had a refrigerator as some of us are traveling parents with kids and babies and need something to store cold food, and milk in (especially breast milk) it would also be nice to have a microwave, especially since continental breakfast isn’t a thing. Again just a convenience for parents and small children. Also, the front desk staff need to learn to be a little more personable and professional. I realize dealing with the public can be stressful, but then maybe being in customer service is not a good place for them to be. All in all this is not a place I would go out of my way to stay again. I realize you can’t predict crime, but the fact that there were multiple cars broken into in one weekend says a-lot about the security there. And I would definitely re-evaluate the front desk staff. Those are the faces of your company. Unless you want an ugly name. I’d get...
Read moreWe love Frontenac area and assumed this Hilton would be nice, especially since it has 4-star reviews on Google. But, immediately I questioned those reviews. Are people’s bars set that low?
The reception area is fine. Reminds me of a building built in the 1980’s with a big chandelier and a very open & bright room with 80’s details, trying to appear extravagant at the time. I am sure it was once gorgeous but now it’s very dated and not kept up, but I assumed the rooms would be renovated, as that’s often the case in older hotels.
I was shocked when we were sent to back of building to our first-floor room, past the restaurant and into a door that’s just hanging open, no locks, no security whatsoever. Immediately did not feel safe, as it was just me and my 10-yr old daughter.
As we headed to our room I had a bad feeling. It smelled terribly of a chemical floral scent that you only smell in places where they’re trying to cover up another horrible smell. I am very sensitive to smells like this, though, as I have been dealing with health issues as a result of mold poisoning which has left my body on high alert when the environment does not smell or feel right. But entire hallway like this. We were overpowered by the horrendous scent.
We found our room in which we walked into another wall of God-awful stenches of mold and floral “cleaner” or “sprays” (not sure which?). There was no escaping this chemical smell. The room was also very damp and musty. (Musty smell always = mold! Mold is very dangerous!) Felt like a room I stayed at in Punta Cana on the beach! I turned on the A/c hoping that would help and that’s when I noticed the mold. Ughhh.
I decided we would try to just live with the smell and so we ordered room service (it was 8:30 pm). Room service was quick and food was great! But as I sat there I felt more and more uncomfortable knowing there’s no way we could sleep there and not wake up really sick. So I searched for a new hotel, found one 9 minutes down the road available, and called front desk.
Front desk girl was kind and nice and didn’t even question a thing. I could tell she knew this was a problem and wasn’t even shocked to hear this from me. She said we would be refunded and off we went to new hotel, arriving around 10 pm.
I am shocked Hilton would have a hotel such as the one in Frontenac. I looked through reviews and people have been saying the same thing as me for a very long time about the mold and also lack of security. Clearly Hilton is doing NOTHING about any of the issues and it’s quite frankly disappointing and disgusting. Mold is a health violation. People can get very, very sick from mold. Obviously it’s not just in the A/C but probably walls and carpeting. It’s not livable. The entire hotel needs to be shut down but obviously Hilton doesn’t care, and would rather all of us be sick, as they’re not doing anything to address these very serious issues.
Front staff was kind and welcoming so this is not on them....

The hotel's opulent lobby and proximity to the Plaza Frontenac, make it an ideal choice. This is an old hotel as well. The Saint Louis Zoo is 6.8 miles away. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool, fitness center, business area, restaurant, barber shop, ATM and bar on-site. The average nightly rate is approximately $140.00, excluding taxes and fees, with free parking and WiFi. Our visit took place on 1/8/25. The hotels do have a shuttle to and from the airport.
As you step into the hotel, you are greeted by a stunning lobby that evokes the grandeur of a Great Gatsby-inspired setting. The check-in area is conveniently located to the right, where you will encounter exceptional staff who are not only friendly but also genuinely enthusiastic about their work. The hotel's sheer scale and beautiful décor throughout its halls are truly impressive, a testament to Hilton's outstanding design.
Upon entering our room, we were pleased to find it quite spacious. We had booked the standard king room, which came with complimentary water bottles. While the room itself was clean, the bathroom was only marginally satisfactory. The presence of a long hair on the door (Photo provided) was especially striking. So the rest of the bathroom was adequate. The room also featured a 42-inch smart TV with Netflix and other streaming services, and the bed was truly remarkable. Its comfort and softness enabled me to sleep exceptionally well.
We did not utilize the bar and restaurant or the pool. However, we did have the opportunity to use the gym, which was in excellent condition - 1 Peloton, 2 bikes, 2 ellipticals, 3 treadmills, rower, multifunction cable machine, Precor cable machine with pull-up bar, free weights up to 50lbs, and a sauna. This was probably the nicest hotel gym we have encountered. The equipment all appeared to be brand new. We had a great workout and appreciated the complimentary water. When in the main building of the hotel, you will have to walk to the gym located in the adjacent building that houses the barber shop. Fortunately, a walkway on the 3rd floor connects the two buildings, allowing you to avoid walking outside.
The location was outstanding, boasting an array of shopping areas and restaurants within walking distance. A store is located just across the street. The hotel's neighborhood seems exceptionally safe for pedestrians. Our stay was delightful, and we look forward to...
