I have stayed at the Reitz Union several times over the past two decades.||I used to recruit interns once a year for my job. And as part of a professional communicators group, I also would help critique students resumes (sometimes I would combine those trips). My son also attended UF.||The Reitz Union was my go-to for a place to stay during the business trips. But with our daughter and a dog, we stayed elsewhere for personal trips to see our son.||This time I went up to Gainesville to see my nieces and chose the hotel because of its great location on campus and in the middle of the Student Union. It remains a clean, simple, bare bones, and affordable place to stay. (Though, it is very pricey during special occasions like football games and commencement exercises.)||I have two complaints. One, parking in the garage and finding your way to the front desk or your room is not spelled out and can be a difficult puzzle to solve. Two, and worst of all, the shower in the bathroom is horrible. It is placed way high (good thing I am a tall woman), so reaching it for adjustments is very difficult (and would be almost impossible for a very petite person). Most unsatisfactory, though, is that the water trickles out. You cannot have a decent shower. At one point I had to get a cup to catch water and then repeatedly pour it on my hair to rinse out the shampoo. I had to turn the shower off and turn on the tub faucet and wash the soap off my body bit by bit by drenching the washcloth and squeezing the water over my body. It was a timely, tedious, and unenjoyable bathing. I longed for a bucket to speed things up!||Despite the things I love about this hotel, if I were staying for more than a night, not being able to have a decent shower is reason enough to...

Read moreWe were lucky enough to secure a room here for homecoming weekend in October 2024. This was my first trip to Gainesville for a UF game and I can say that the Reitz Union Hotel has me spoiled! ||If the on campus charm and atmosphere isn’t enough, the location improves this place even more. The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk to the stadium and approximately that to anywhere you need to go on campus. It was perfect for a late night football game. ||Since the hotel is located in a student union type of building, you can also enjoy a variety of restaurants, the amazing campus bookstore, sitting areas, and more. ||The rooms were average, nothing crazy, but that’s not why you stay here. We did enjoy the free complimentary breakfast put out by the elevators each morning. ||Can’t wait to...
