For the final stop on a multi-state vacation, my wife and I decided to try a Bed & Breakfast, rather than a boring hotel. We were not disappointed. We spent two nights in this historic house and enjoyed it very much. Although the room we reserved was a little smaller than we anticipated, it was comfortable, and The owner was welcoming and seemed eager to make sure our stay was a pleasant one. It was. ||||While we loved seeing the chickens that roamed free in the beautifully landscaped yard, we have to admit that the resident dog made us a little nervous. She was not aggressive or anything, but she did bark loudly and growl at odd times. ||||Although the shower stall was a bit smaller than I would have liked, it definitely got the job done. The bed was nice and firm. The arm chair was a bit uncomfortable for long-term occupancy, but the overall ambience was warm. However, if we had it to do over, we would probably select one of the larger rooms, as they appeared to be more spacious and comfortable. ||||The breakfast was excellent: some type of egg casserole, Belgian waffles, coffee, OJ, and a fruit-and-yogurt dish. At least, I think it was yogurt. Whatever it was, it was delicious. ||||One of the things we’ve learned about B&Bs is that they are a wonderful way to meet and converse with interesting people, often from interesting places. This one did not disappoint there either. ||||We might never stay in a...

First, I mistakenly booked a two-bed room for four persons at the $125 rate for the wrong date. Thankfully, Cherie was flexible and made arrangements to take us in when we arrived without a reservation for that date. In the end, my family of four squeezed into the one-bed Greer room along with an inflated air mattress. Unfortunately, Cherie charged us $80 in addition to the non-refundable prepaid $125, even though the price for the one-bed room was $95. Because this incident was caused by my mistake, I would have been willing to pay a premium and some penalty for the room. However, paying more than double for the room seemed unfair to my family.
Second, I have to comment on the noise level. The Greer room lies directly beside the main thoroughfare through town. Cars and motorcycles passing by the establishment are audible, seemingly with very little diminution in sound level, in the room. Most unfortunate were the window-rattling, super loud motorcycles coursing through town at all hours of the night, some of which were playing blaring or thumping music to boot. The vivid presence of street noise in the room made it very difficult for my family to sleep well. Greer room patrons should also take care to use the curtains to eliminate, as much as possible, the nearby street light that shines directly...
Read moreMain Street Bed and Breakfast was a great experience for my wife and two boys. This over 200 year old house is quaint and like walking into a historic place. With many of its original features the home feels like you are taking part in its unique history. This was our first time in a B&B and I was nervous, since I am a shy person and staying in someone’s house while they serve me is a strange feeling. Cherie was able to make my family feel at home and comfortable. It is more like staying with a family member and Cherie was helpful in all of our time there. I do have to be honest because I think reviews matter. There is a lot of noise that goes along with this stay. The road outside is noisy and loud, but I never cared because it was not the fault of this historic home. It wasn’t designed to block out the noise of rumbling motorcycles and semi trucks driving through town. The floor creaks a lot, but it’s the original flooring in the house. I chose to view all of these negatives as really a positive. We are staying in a house that has history in its floorboards and brick walls. Now we are a part of it too. So don’t come to Main Street Bed and Breakfast expecting the Ritz Carlton. Expect a welcoming and friendly host who shares her historic home and all of its character with you. B&B’s are places to experience, hotels are...
