My husband and I stayed at the Dominion house for our wedding night! We got married 7/5/19, we stayed in the nicest room at the boutique, the presidential suite (honeymoon suite). With it being our first night as husband and wife we wanted the best. Unfortunately, the idea of dominion was much better than the actual experience. We reserved our room at the Dominion months in advance and we also purchased the “add-on” Romantic package which is supposed to include “In Room bottle of champagne, wine or non alcohol beverage * Chocolate covered strawberries *Bouquet of fresh seasonal flowers *Late Check Out 1:00PM”
The day before our wedding, I called to confirm everything with Dominion. I made sure to confirm that we would not be arriving until midnight on our day of check-in due to our reception being an all night event (which is a typical wedding timeline). I also confirmed the champagne, strawberries, and bouquet being in the room when we arrived. I double checked that they knew our checkout time would be at 7am due to our early flight to our honeymoon that next morning. We asked if we could have breakfast early on the morning of our check out and they said it wouldn’t be a problem. Everything seemed perfectly set....except that was a complete lie.
On the day of our wedding, my new husband and I arrived at Dominion in a “getaway” car at midnight. Exactly when we said we would arrive and there was not a sole in sight at the checkin desk....you can just imagine me...a bride in a giant ball gown wedding dress roaming around this hotel trying to find someone to give us our keys to our honeymoon room. We were tired and hungry. Someone finally appeared and said “oh we didn’t think you guys would show up”.....that was when I knew things were off to a really bad start. It turns out they never turned the a/c on or had it set very high for the 2nd floor of the hotel which is the floor our room was on because no one else was staying on that floor for the night and they didn’t think we would show up...it was blazing hot in July!!! And let me tell you it got slightly cooler when they turned the a/c on but it was still sweaty hot all night long! Of course the champagne, flowers, and chocolates weren’t in our room! The man that showed us our room literally said “oh, you wanted those tonight” HELLO ITS OUR WEDDING NIGHT AND WE CHECK OUT AT 7am THE NEXT DAY, YES WE WANT THEM TONIGHT! after I told the man that yes we wanted the package that we ordered that night he said “there is no one on the property to give you the champagne”....and keep in mind this is all happening on the night of our WEDDING!!! Finally after getting upset to the man he said he would call and find out what he could do. About an hour later when my husband and I were getting in bed he showed up with the chocolate strawberries and champagne....a little too late. We got it and took one sip, didn’t touch the strawberries and then went to sleep. We NEVER got the flowers that was supposed to come with it....whatever you do just don’t get the “Romantic Package” it’s more like a disaster package. Waste of $135!!!
The room itself was nicely decorated, the no a/c or very weak a/c was HORRIBLE. We even had a thermostat in our room but no matter how low we set it, it never got better. Also, I’m sure you won’t be surprised....they absolutely had no breakfast for us in the morning. Typically they don’t have breakfast at 6am, but I called the day before our wedding to see if they can accommodate us and they made it seem like it would be no problem at all...and when we woke up they had nothing. We just couldn’t wait to get out of the hotel at that point.
Overall the entire experience was $500 and it was AWFUL!!!!!! it’s an absolute shame because the room was very nice but the service and execution of the hotel was terrible. I do not think we would ever stay here again or recommend it especially for a wedding night!!! It broke my heart because that’s a night we will...
Read moreThe Frustrating: Holiday Inn style continental breakfast. NOT the breakfast pictured on their website or mentioned in reviews. We were given scrambled eggs and 2 jimmy dean sausage patties, not "a team of chefs' breakfast". EVERYTHING else is sitting out on the counter. No fresh fruit unless you consider a basket of apples and oranges. Fix the waffles yourself (but the mix doesn't cook right). Toast your own bagel (but the toaster doesn't work right). Drinks are just plastic bottles sitting in a mini fridge. Coffee is just from a machine. Creamer (sitting in the fridge) poured out in chunks. Really disappointing for a romantic getaway!||The Good: The rooms - beautiful. The bathrooms - phenomenal. The grounds - nice. If we hadn't been misled with false advertising, this place would be 4 stars easy.||The Not So Good: Our room showed signs of water damage. Paint cracking and chipping all along the wall. Panel above the window sagging. The grounds lacked attention to detail. The plastic domes and fire table outside were filthy. The roof has extension cords hanging down off of it. The garden area fish pond needed filled up. Little things that would make the property pop. The receptionists were nice, but I wouldn't classify either as personable. Asked for a nice restaurant recommendation since their restaurant is no longer open (again website lists W-Su) and was handed a very generic list of everything in town. ||The building is historic, but they put no effort in highlighting the history or stories that make the hotel unique in the first place. What about offering a tour? What about a library that has photos or stories? There are two short journal entries in the binder in the room and maybe 6-7 photos in the dining area, but you have to search for them to...
Read moreStaying in Guthrie, OK. Our stay at the Dominion House was very relaxing. With a beautiful room on the first floor, a deep soaking tub with plenty of hot water to fill it. The bed was soft you just melt into it, with feather down pillows and white linens. Although our room was equip with a gas fire place we did not use it. Maybe next time we are in the area. The staff was wonderful and welcoming, from the front desk to the kitchen. We had left our room to have dinner with some friends in the area. When we arrived back to our room there on the bed was a nice note from the evening staff Bobby and a large piece of customized chocolate. Although I do not eat chocolate, my granddaughters enjoyed it. For breakfast we made our way to the dinning area where we met the Chef. He told us how they are getting ready to launch the restaurant for dinner service. This is another thing we will have to try the next time we are in the area. Oh, and breakfast was cooked to order. While you wait you can enjoy some fresh fruit and single serve pasties with home made preserves. ...
