I haven't been to Stables Cafe since 2012, when we had a combined mediocre and bad experience. Last night, our target restaurant had moved to the Edmond/Guthrie border, so we reluctantly tried Stables again. All of the tables that were open were not cleaned, so the hostess suggested we go back to the Tap Room, attached to the main restaurant. When we were taken back there, we were the only customers, but in less than 10 minutes it was pretty much full.
I got the big ribeye and Raegan got a baked potato. We had drinks and food ordered pretty quickly, but then we waited, and waited, and waited. We were at 35 minutes. Several tables around us who had arrived after us had food delivered first. Our server (who also ran the bar in the room) was surprised it was taking so long, went back to check, and came back with the food that had just come out, right at the 40 minute point.
Raegans baked potato was good. The steak was cooked a perfect medium, as ordered, and had good flavor and just a little char on it. I had mashed potatoes for one side (very good) and chili for the other (excellent!). We both had about half of our meals before we were running out of time (we had tickets to the nearby theater for 8pm), so we took half the meal with us, which I had for dinner just a bit ago.
The food was pretty good. Service was attentive and friendly. It was pretty busy, which might explain the lengthy time to get our food. I really liked the chili. So Stables/Tap Room might be back on our...
Read moreI left this place with a bad taste in my mouth!
Everything had gone well as I enjoyed two beers and a burger/fries on a quick stop over as I passed through Guthrie. As I reviewed my check I thought there was a mistake! I was charged $12.50 for my first beer, a Guinness Stout. My second beer was $6, a Co-op F5 IPA. I asked the bartender about it and was told that no, the price is right on the Guinness--it used to be $8, but they recently had to raise it.
I live in the Heights of Houston, TX--an inside the loop, spendy part of town, but have never paid more than $8 for a Guinness in my life!. Maybe they are paying a lot to their distributor, but my beef here is that if you have a beer that costs more than twice what every other beer on the menu is, you need to tell people. The beer list did not have any prices, and being in Guthrie, Oklahoma I did not think I needed to worry about price gouging or anything like that. I feel like I was set up!!
Like I said at the beginning of this review, I left with a very bad taste in my mouth and will not be back next time I stop...
Read moreThis is a great place have ate here many times! Really good steaks and cool atmosphere. The waiter and waitresses are awesome the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is we have had one bad meal in there my tall man steak that I always get was so rare that blood was coming out on the plate and when they re-cooked it I could not eat it it was full of gristle and fat and my girlfriends charbroiled hamburger was so burnt on the top she could not eat it the waiter comped the hamburger but I paid $21 for a steak I cannot even eat half of. I told the waiter about it he said they had a cook there that night that was not their usual cook. I would suggest they get their old cook back we will try it one more time but if that’s how it’s going to be I would not recommend this...
