No matter where you go and stay, there’s always room for improvement. But there are details every hotel has that’s not always posted and in this case I’m going to tell you.
I here in NJ on business and came over from my home on the UK. I needed a long term stay and chose Extended Stay Hanover. Been here for 7-weeks and will be here for 4 more weeks.
Three weeks ago while at a Whippany Diner, just down from the hotel, I was feeling ill. Thought I was having a heart attack. Making a long story short, a ambulance came and I ended in the hospital for a few days. Morrison Medical Center ROCKS.
It was Not a heart attack.... thank God. When I was released I still had problems walking and they put me on insulin. I’m a type II, diabetic.
When I was driving to the hotel, I called and asked if they a wheelchair and asked if I could park in the handicap parking space near the entrance to my room. They didn’t have a wheelchair and they gave me permission to park at the handicap spot.
When I got there I realized I couldn’t walk my feet were swollen up and the pain was just excruciating. I called the front desk, talked to Kevin the manager and asked if someone could bring the luggage rack down to me so I could use it to get to my room. Kevin brought the luggage rack down to me I told him what was going on and why I needed it and he said it’s too long for you to get on so let me go get a chair out of my office. He asked if I would be OK Waiting there till he got the chair. I said yes and a minute later Kevin came back with a office chair helped me in it and took me to my room. He help me get into the bed he got me water did a few other things for me and left.
Two minutes later Kevin called me and said he found a chair to be used in the bathtub so I could take a shower. Kevin left in about an hour later he calls me and asked if I have any thing to eat. I said no. He said he was going by a restaurant and he would stop and get me whatever I want to eat. I told him what I would like and said I have cash when he comes back Kevin comes back and delivers the food refuses to take any money. I think them any left. 15 minutes later he calls me up and says it is located a wheelchair and is bringing it down for me. Kevin then told me that the front desk is fully aware of what’s going on with me and if I need anything all I need to do is call down there and they will help.
The next morning Kevin calls me again, and says he’ll bring me breakfast what would I like. I told him and also sad if you could bring me the largest coffee you can find that would make me happy. Again Kevin shows up and will not take Any money from me.
Kevin called every day to make sure I was OK and really attended any needs that I had. I thanked him and he said that’s what we service men do for each other. Kevin was in the Navy and I was in the Marine Corps. I told him what we marine say to our Navy brothers is Semper Fi.
I cannot think of anyone in my entire career that has gone out of their way so unselfishly to help another person that they didn’t know.
No matter where I travel in the future I will always stay at extended stay if I have that choice. And of course one coming to New Jersey to work on the film or other projects I would only stay at Extended Stay America in Hanover New Jersey.
I hope in the future Kevin and I become friends. He’s a good man, a great manager and he really knows how to take care of his guests at the hotel and whatever Extended Stay is paying him, it’s not enough.
Kevin, Thank you for all your help. If not for you..... it would have been a REAL...
Read moreWhere to begin with this dump? I had to stay here because of a medical issue I had. I decided to book Memorial Day weekend for the week of June 24th-28th. The rate was averaged at 90 something dollars a day.
I got to the hotel and the woman at the first desk was nice. Sorry, I don’t remember her name. Short-ish black lady. She was very bubbly and funny, I liked her.
I get to my room, room is very very dated. I mostly picked this hotel because I needed the kitchen. On first inspection as I entered the room, like I said, it was dated. All the lamp shades were crooked and dusty. The tv looked like the housekeeper just took the rag she “cleaned” one item with like the counter or furniture and just went to the tv with it. It was just gross.
I went to hook up my HDMI device into one of the three HDMI ports, nothing. I called up the front desk. While the woman, that I like, was nice, she wasn’t too helpful with my issue. She told me, a paying customer to call up tech support. So I did. Tech support wasn’t helpful at all.
Since I was there for a medical reason, I needed this device since I wasn’t leaving the room to help with my boredom. Long story short, I went to Best Buy to buy a tv and I used that. WiFi was absolutely crap for the most part. My iPad wouldn’t stay connected nor would my phone.
The device I was using, an Xbox, would lose connection all the time. They have an option for fast speeds, maybe add more antennas for stability before you up charge for unstable service?
My original check out day, was Saturday. Probably Thursday or Friday I decided to stay until Sunday. I called up the front desk and they told me okay. I also asked if I could leave closer to 12 and they said no issue.
Saturday around 11:30 I decided to go for a walk around the building. I forgot a water and decided to go back in via the door on the side of the building. Key wouldn’t work. So not only did they not extend my stay but they locked me out. Okay, simple mistake. But why didn’t anyone call me up to ask why was I not checked out yet.
Front desk corrected the mistake. The only reason why this was a big deal, I needed to avoid people due to the treatment I just had at the hospital. Front desk also informed me my extra day was going to be $153 or something like that. I wouldn’t pay the $90 or whatever I paid to stay there again.
Every night around 8:30-9pm, somewhere around there, I would smell cigarette smoke. I thought it was coming in via the front window, I found out it was coming in from the bathroom exhaust fan. Someone in a neighboring room must have been smoking and using their bathroom exhaust fan to vent the smell out. Once I turned my exhaust fan on, I stopped smelling it.
While I was packing up, I dropped something. I thought it rolled under the bed and checked. Under the bed looked like the last time it was clean was years ago. Candy, wrappers, it was just disgusting.
Not an issue the hotel can’t fix but there’s an airport directly behind the hotel. Planes land every 5 minutes or so, all day long. After a while it got to be so overwhelming to me.
While the hallway did smell of paint, someone must have freshly painted or spot painted, I never heard a vacuum pass my door, not once. I stayed on the second floor and around my room was pretty clean, other areas not so lucky.
I honestly wished I stayed at the hotel next door or at the Cambria closer to the hospital in Livingston. This place was...
Read more1 star is generous. The general manager of this roach motel, Jasbir Singh, is a shady, lying, vile slum lord. His own employees told me that he's notorious for forgetting what he's said and lying to guests... I experienced this first-hand.
I called to check availability. I spoke to Jasbir, who confirmed his name during our conversation. I asked for a military rate. He said they don't have one, but he'd give me a courtesy discount price of $452.76/week. I reconfirmed his name.
The next day, the woman with whom I checked in called Jasbir to confirm the discount he'd promised me. He told her he didn't remember having such a phone call. She gave me the discount anyway.
A week later, I went to the front desk to pay for another week, but was told I'd need to speak with Jasbir to get the same discount. The woman told me to not pay anything until I speak to him. However, Jasbir was never around when I was told he would be. This happened when I tried to pay the next week, too.
After I'd been there 2 1/2 weeks, another manager called to ask when I am planning to pay. I told him about Jasbir's discount, and just like the women two different times at the front desk, this manager told me to talk to the elusive Jasbir Singh. That same day, I finally found Jasbir.
Trying to be as succinct as possible, my conversation with Jasbir went as follows: He yelled and screamed and told me he never spoke to me on the phone, blamed his employees for making mistakes, and called me a liar -repeatedly- for saying that he and I had a phone conversation he'd forgotten about. HE SAID HE DOESN'T GIVE A MILITARY DISCOUNT BECAUSE "I DON'T GIVE A SH*T ABOUT THE MILITARY."
He demanded I pay the full rate for the past 1 1/2 weeks I'd been trying to track down my discount, which I refused based on what he promised (and principal). When he knew that he had no more cards to play, and I'd proven that he'd made a mistake, he even threatened to call the police.
All of this unnecessary drama because he either forgot what he'd told me or he did a bait-and-switch. Judging by the unprofessional manner by which he addressed my issue, I think it was the latter- he was just trying to get me to pay significantly more for the 1 1/2 weeks that were due- the 1 1/2 weeks that I was led to believe I'd be paying the rate promised to me.
An hour after this conversation, I went to the front desk to retrieve a package that USPS confirmed was delivered earlier that day. Jasbir refused to give it to me. Jasbir Singh is a deranged little bald man.
2 other guests have told me that this establishment either did the same thing to them or to someone they know.
Jasbir Singh is a dirty, lowlife swindler. Record every conversation you have with anyone at this place, and DO NOT EXPECT THIS BUSINESS TO HONOR THE PRICE...
