After so many years, my family and I were back in town to have dinner at one of our favorite hometown restaurants. It's unfortunate to see the change in management and staff and how unwelcoming our brief visit was. As my family and I entered the restaurant at 8pm (per Google, closes at 9pm), we were immediately told that they close at 8:30pm and to eat fast or leave. Since we knew exactly what menu items we loved at this restaurant, we agreed to be seated for a quick dinner. The waitress passed out menus and my father mentioned how we used to come weekly almost 18 years ago. Rudely, the waitress replied "I wasn't here that long ago, I would not remember you." Okay fine...but then we placed our order requests and the waitress said they couldn't make some of our orders due to time. We stated that it's okay if they take their time, we would quickly finish our meal to allow the staff to close up for the night before 8:30pm. The manager came to our table and harshly roared, "I don't care if you don't care, we care and we will not be making your food". Essentially, we were shewed and refused of service due to the staff's dictated timing and convenience, despite restaurant hours. It's a shame because we held so many pleasant memories with outstanding food throughout my childhood, and due to this distasteful experience, my family and I will not...
Read moreOne of the best Chinese places in the area. Let me clarify some of the concerns other users have pointed out. The service is usually very personal and attentive, at times this place gets absolutely loaded, and you may not get as much attention as you would like. This is on par with 99.9 % of the other Chinese restaurants in the area.
The white/brown rice is not plentiful. If you have more than a bowl, you will pay a small amount for extra rice...literally a couple dollars. I can't explain why, but I can accept this with the quality of the food.
Let's talk about the food... Very wide range of selections from your run of the mill General Tso, Lo Mein and Fried Rice, to more authentic noodle soups, even some very respectable XLB soup dumplings. The food is very fragrant, savory, and complex. If you are a fan of spicy, ask for their hot oil. It is legit!! Adds much more than just pure spice to your broths, noodles, and dumplings.
Try something new, enjoy the savory goodness and taste. I believe that this place has some Shanghainese specialties, and may trace their roots to that region, but they do a great job with Hunan, Cantonese, and some Szechuan cuisine as well. Check it out. Lunch specials are a cheap way to jump into the...
Read moreI used to work near Mr. Chus about 10 years ago and my colleagues and I used to go to Mr. Chus most Friday's for lunch. The food was reliable and tasted fresh. The past year I was nearby twice and was excited to take my family there so I could reminisce. I am sad to report both times we were there the quality is not the same. I tried several of my favorites thinking I could always take the leftovers home and was seriously disappointed. General Tso's chicken, one of my favorites, was really greasy ( I know its fried) and soggy not crispy like it used to be. Everything else we ordered for 5 people was also disappointing. The staff was nice except for the manager lady. She walks around very militant like and unfriendly. She sat us way in the back in a dark corner and I asked her if we could move closer to the windows side since the place was almost empty but she very abruptly and rudely replied "No those are taken". The gentleman waiter was very nice. The whole time we were there, most recent visit last saturday at 5pm, some other customers came in but the place was still pretty empty. I will not be returning nor do...
