We came to South Carolina evacuating from Hurricane Irma in Florida. This hotel is a pretty good distance from the interstate, we had to drive a while before we found it. First thing I noticed was the hotel lobby looked nice, clean and modernized. On the way here I had actually looked up the hotel to browse the reviews and photos to get an idea of what to expect. Our room was nothing like the photos online. First thing we noticed was the thick smell of smoke (this room is supposed to be non-smoking, even has a no-smoking sign on the door). The room furniture/bed/décor is very dated. Bed mattresses are old, stained and worn out. The bed topper/comforter had cigarette burns all over it so we just took it off the bed and set it to the side. Our room had a fridge/microwave combo, we did use them and noticed the next day that everything we put in the fridge was frozen, we turned the fridge temperature all the way down (warmest level) and 2 days later noticed that it was still freezing the stuff we was putting in there. The photos online indicate that the rooms have flat-screen hd TV's. Our room had an older model tv. Quality wasn't bad though. No HBO. This hotel does provide free Wi-Fi and it was fast and we experienced no problems there. AC unit looks to be new and it worked great. One of the walls in our room had what looked to be a hole that was punched in it. The water pressure was fantastic, the shower head had a massager on it and that was nice to have. As far as cleanliness goes there was several things I noticed that weren't clean. First the shower wall had a muddy handprint on it. There was dead beetles on the floor in different areas. The ice bucket had stuck on food in it. Didn't see any roaches our entire stay (which was 6 days). Our room was at the back of the hotel which meant the maid service came here last (according to the front desk manager) when your at the back of the hotel the maids get here around 4-5 pm. We tried to go swimming in the pool once but it was closed, manager said it was because the pool needed to be treated. The complimentary breakfast is awesome! They had bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits, cereals, oatmeal, grits, orange juice, milk, coffee, waffle maker, toast, sausage gravy, and yogurt. Breakfast was always fresh, hot and replenished frequently. There is several restaurant options nearby including... Zaxby's, McDonalds, Apple-bees, Captain D's, Shoney's, Bojangles, KFC, Wendy's, Taco Bell. The pizza hut down the road (about 1.5 miles) doesn't deliver here though. Overall would I stay here again...maybe (if there aren't nicer other options that are...
Read moreBeware! I gave this place the benefit of doubt, reading reviews with an open mind, we were desperate for a place to stay. I was hesitant to read about bed bugs, so we decided to proceed with a thorough check of the room. It was disgusting! Big red stain on the carpet (after they supposedly just deep cleaned), smell of musky mildew, everything was damaged, old, and stained. The manager at the desk seemed friendly and helpful until we came back from running out for coffee to learn our personal items have been packed and brought to the office. Staff went in our room as soon as we left to snoop through our things and steal! A couple personal belongings are missing and we never got our food back from the fridge. She went on with an elaborate story of how they found drugs in our room and were kicking us out! Supposedly the police were called, however we were never contacted and these supposed “drugs” she claims to have flushed down the toilet. I would assume if there was any kind of report, police would take anything found as evidence? Wouldn’t be surprised if drugs were found there but they were not brought in by us! Could have been left by the last person who stayed, considering our neighbors were tweakers who paced the walkway peering in our windows while we were there. They also charged my credit card extra after we got kicked out and we were put on some supposed black list. This was a very unsettling and violating experience for us. It’s as if they are trying to take advantage of travels and steal from them. I did a little more research on the Landmark Inn and discovered there was a murder suicide there where a pregnant woman was assaulted and killed 4 years ago! And to think two innocent travelers are the ones to get kicked out! The manager also is quick to defend any negative reviews given online to make the victims look like the problem. Save yourself the headache, money, and bedbugs! I should have listened to her when we were checking in and she referred to Heartsville as...
