If I was rating the front desk staff and house keeping staff I would give five stars all around. They were the kindest most helpful people, however the concierge took center stage for us on this strip and hence the low rating after having to work with him. Where to begin- I called a few weeks before our arrival just to inquire as to what amenities I might expect. At that time I was transferred to the concierge who gave me a brief list of things I could expect and then asked if I had considered any excursions. I stated I had not. He said he could get me discounts on all sorts of things and to just let him know how he could help. He began listing out the top rated activities around the island, a luau being one of them. I let him know we were planning to do that and he said if I was ready to book he’d get me a discount that same day. Great, I thought and we got that scheduled and payed for. Then he went on to tell me about the sales presentations at the resort and told me if I could give him an hour he’d gift me a cruise trip. I agreed and that was that. Fast forward to my husband and I arriving to the resort and talking our plans through, we realized we just would t have time for this presentation so I let the concierge know days in advance- the same day we checked in. He acted like we were idiots for passing up on a cruise. We kindly told him it just wasn’t going to work out. He then asked to see my credit card because that discount that he secured for our Luau, he’d need to take that back since we backed out of his presentation. WHAT?! He had offered the discount before even mentioning the sales presentation and he never tied my attendance to the sales presentation to helping us book excursions and shows…. Isn’t that what everyone expects of a concierge? That they help in booking reservations to shows, etc without a tie in to a sales presentation?! Being tired after traveling all day I didn’t want to argue with him specially as he was so obviously irritated. I gave him my card and sure enough he charged the discount amount I had received, over $70…… This experience and his tactics ruined our entire feel...
Read moreThe resort itself was just fine. There are two pools and you can see the ocean, but there is no beach. We had a double room with a small kitchen and two balconies that could see the ocean in the distance. There are no restaurants or bars on site so you do have to leave the property if you didn't buy groceries. One thing to note is that you can walk to town easily and visit a few bars and restaurants, but if you want to do any of the activities, you will need to drive several hours to get to anything fun. The activities person at the desk was nice but a little pushy on booking excursions that we probably wouldn't have booked if we had been able to take the time and research them ourselves. DONT DO THE LUAU. It's $300 to waste your time in a conference room and not even a good meal. He also signed us up for a timeshare talk which required a $40 deposit we would lose if we didn't show up. At the talk, they promise you coffee and pastries, but it's packaged stale madeline cookies, and they bully you to try to buy a timeshare even though we are going to inherit one through a family member. They very disgustingly kept bringing up when that family member would die ("what do you think, 10 to 15 years from now?" Who says that to someone?!) and were trying to get us to make upgrades to their package on their behalf. When we made it clear we would not be buying anything, the manager Danielle got pretty rude and said we had already signed an agreement which we had not. The salesman who was originally talking to us was cool, and the final attempt lady was also nice enough, but the young manager was very abrasive and made us not want to vacation on this...
Read moreI stayed here in 2022 on a loaned timeshare. Here's the thing with this place. The location is fine (but note, it is not on a usable beach, they are accurate when they say "sea cliff", you are on a cliff. We trekked down to the beach area, but don't even think about swimming or getting in). And it's Hawaii, so take this review with a grain of salt that you are not going to be spending a ton of time in the hotel. But my gosh, the cockroaches. They were EVERYWHERE. We had a first floor room with a porch access to the outside. And we used the grill at the pool to cook ourselves some steaks and brought them back to the room. Well, we made the dumb decision to eat outside. And not 2 minutes from sitting outside at dusk, we were being swarmed by flying cockroaches. And once they got a smell of meat, they were squeezing themselves through the balcony door to get into the room. We had a similar experience making the dumb decision to go upstairs to the top of the property and sit on one of the couches near the stairs overlooking the cliff edge and water. I kid you not, the absolute biggest cockroach I have ever seen in my life (it had to be the size of a credit card) crawled out from under the couch. And once it saw us, it started to skitter, and man was this thing FAST. Needless to say, we were quite freaked out. I know that generally one wouldn't expect much from a timeshare property, but goodness gracious did this turn me off from ever ever ever even staying in a...
