We stayed here through our friends timeshare points. We’ve stayed at a few of his properties now, so that gives us something to base our review on other than normal hotel or AirBNB stays.
Location. We have enjoyed the location and the view is pretty good, as we have a beach view. It’s just about 5-10 minutes to drive downtown Kona. Too much for us to walk, but we didn’t mind as we found free parking whenever we went. The parking downtown that you pay for is a bit expensive if not eating at the Sunset Plaza. We’ve also driven to pretty much everywhere on the island - VNP is about two hours and not a terrible drive.
Staff. They accommodated us with the beach view for our anniversary vacation and also provided us a box of chocolates. They seemed friendly in most of our interactions and the timeshare offer was significantly more pleasant than the last few properties we visited. My wife has narcolepsy, so we don’t usually attend the presentations anyways - but it was nice that it wasn’t shoved down our throats. Expect this when you get your parking pass - if we end up going to a presentation, I’ll update the review.
Amenities. There’s not a ton we used for amenities aside from the pool. I don’t really know if they have much else to be honest, haven’t seen a gym listed and haven’t asked. I’m here at the pool now writing the review. I can hear the waves and we are alone at the quiet pool - it’s nice. Bring your shoes though, the stones are hot as hell. There’s a bit of construction on the other side of main pool, so we didn’t go to that one (there are two pools). The grounds were a nice walk while my wife was napping, but unless you’re very into plants I suspect that’s only good for a one time 20 minute stroll. Parking is free and pretty easy.
Room. Like the other Wyndham properties we’ve stayed, it’s pretty generic. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, sitting area, kitchen, and balcony. It’s certainly big enough for the two of us. We’ve enjoyed the balcony, it’s “somewhat” private but your neighbors can lean around and wave. Good for sunsets. The room for us is where things are more mediocre - detailed below.
Kitchen. Not sure the oven works properly. Something that said 10 minutes took me 30 minutes to heat up. The water (and ice) has an odd taste it left in our bottles, so we picked up bottles from Costco. The fridge works fine. Bring your own kitchen soap, the one provided is watery and odd. The dishwasher, or the provided packs, doesn’t work at all. We found dirty dishes - plates and utensils in the cabinets. I didn’t realize the first time I used it until I looked back and was a bit grossed out 🙄.
Bathroom. Gets the job done, small shower. Sink faucet is a bit leaky. We found blood on the walls. We reported it after also finding the dishes and blood on the sheets. They came to clean next day, but the blood was still there. 🤷🏻♂️
Bedroom. The beds are okay but have seen better days. You can see they’re higher on the edges than the middle. I’m ready for my own bed at home, but have been tossing and turning at night.
Conclusion: I would stay here again with my friends points, but otherwise would likely try to find another place if possible. It’s decent but not blowing my socks off by any means. I would have rather stayed at an AirBNB than pay...
Read moreI read about a million reviews before my trip to the Royal Sea Cliff, so I wanted to share my experience in the hopes that it helps someone else traveling there. We currently have a discovery membership with Wyndham. This allows us to try out some of their properties without/ before committing to becoming an owner. ||The Royal Sea Cliff property is beautiful and well maintained. It's about a mile from the downtown area of Kailua-Kona (Ali'i Drive). It's an easy walk, with the right footwear. There is little to no free parking on Ali'i Drive, making walking my preferred choice. There is no bar or restaurant on the property. The closest restaurants are about 1 mile (or so) away in either direction on Ali'i Drive. ||While the property was impressive, the room was not (room 605). Let me be clear, there was nothing wrong with the room, it was just extremely underwhelming. If you're used to traveling to places with extravagant hotel rooms, you will surely be disappointed. The bed was a size "full," which is WAY too small for two taller adults. The bed and pillows were also highly uncomfortable. The bathroom looked like it belonged in a hospital. The shower was extremely small and had no shelving, leaving you to keep your toiletries on the floor. Luckily, we did not spend a lot of time in the room, due to our packed itinerary. Had we not planned to be as busy as we were, I would have been disappointed to have to spend more time in the room. Also, as an FYI, there is no housekeeping. You can pay an additional fee to have daily housekeeping. ||The concierge person we dealt with the most was Jason. He was awesome. He was extremely informative and gave us lots of advice about what we should do while on the island. He also gave us access to the beach closet, allowing us to use two chairs and an umbrella for our entire stay. This was very useful when going to the various beaches on the island. Because the hotel is a time share, he has to sign you up for a presentation. No bad feelings there - it's his job. You should expect it when staying at a time share. About the time share presentation...the woman who we met with (she will not be named) was NOT a good sales person. We were not interested in the first place, but when we told her that we were disappointed with the accommodations, she said that (paraphrasing) we got a crappy room because the crappy rooms are reserved for those with the discovery membership. She said they keep the nice rooms for the owners. If this is true, it is possibly one of the worst sales tactics that I have ever heard. One would think that Wyndham would want to provide excellent accommodations to those that they are trying make owners - but what do I know?!||Overall, the property is beautiful, the room was clean, and the employees were extremely nice and helpful. Just don't expect what you're used to when you stay at an all inclusive...
Read moreDesk help were extremely nice and helpful. Sent to concierge for parking pass and that's exactly what we got. No sales pitches, no attempt to sell an excursion, etc. Our room was spacious. We purchased the room through a package offered by Costco. The floors were all tile. The furniture was is good shape. Our room had two bedrooms each with their own bathroom and TV, kitchen with stove/oven and microwave plus full size refrigerator, all sorts of dishes, utensils, cups, etc. Living room with a huge TV, large patio with table and chairs plus two extra chairs to use to sunbathe, dining table inside, washer and dryer inside the room in the master bedroom. Each room and the patio had ceiling fans, the AC seemed to work well. Free internet that was fairly fast. Washing detergent is free! The property has two pools, tennis court, BBQ grill (at least one). Every thing was stocked as appropriate. We could not hear any neighbors inside the room. We hardly saw anyone. Parking is in a gated underground garage there are several elevators. There is no beach directly behind the property, the access gate was also locked. There is no daily room service.
The only negatives I can think of included the cleanliness of the floors and the layout of the master bedroom and bathroom. We have a one year old and as he crawled around doing the toddler thing his knees and feet became really dirty. I ended up mopping the floors with one of the used towels (no mop) then washing it after. Regarding the layout of the master bedroom and bathroom there is no door separating the sink area of the bathroom from the bedroom. There were two light switches for the bathroom area. Both turn on lights above the sink. if you wake up in the middle of the night and you want to keep it dark for your sleeping partner and or baby, you'll have to use your phone or a flashlight to light the way. This also means that you'll be sitting in the dark while using the toilet. There also wasn't a crib in the room. We did not attempt to call the front desk for one. If you need one, bring a portable or call ahead to see if they have one.
Finally we noticed there was a cleaning fee after booking. It is $250.
Overall a nice quiet place to stay. Fairly close to a number of restaurants, maybe two mile's from Target/Walmart. Good area to run. Limited Sandy Beach access immediately near it. There are also some Farmers Markets within...
