I really wanted to love this place but had an issue that wasnāt addressed properly or professionally. That alone put a damper on our 4 night stay after only being there a night. Pros were the hotel is in a nice location on the water with beautiful views close to downtown. The room itself had a comfortable bed and pillows.
Cons were the bathroom is very small with minimal space around toilet area, low water pressure in shower along with extreme temperature fluctuations, and no closet or space to really hang up anything.
We stayed in room 106 and had issues with hot/cold water fluctuations in the shower every single time we showered. It was very uncomfortable being blasted with scalding hot water then ice cold water and took a lot of time to shower trying to get a balance. Management didnāt seem to care since they couldnāt get a plumber out right away and came across like we were making it up since nobody had ever complained about it. Iāve never had an issue like this before anywhere Iāve stayed. I addressed the issue first thing in the morning with staff onsite, after taking a shower, and was told it would be looked at when Eddy returned from a walk. I then didnāt hear anything back and inquired about it 12 hours later which the response I received was just āyesā. I then was telling my boyfriend, who was currently showering and having water temp fluctuations, the response and then hear Karen outside of our room saying they were there to help so I opened the door. She then stood at our door kitty corner to the bathroom having a conversation with my boyfriend while he was showering, which was completely awkward and unprofessional. We both felt very uncomfortable from that point on. The only option I was given was to be refunded for the remainder of our stay so we could find other accommodations. Who wants to have to go through all that last minute while on vacation! For the cost of close to $350 a night, I expected better customer service and some compassion. FYI I was fully aware that my boyfriend tightened the hot/cold water knobs in the shower. What I wasnāt aware of was that Eddy came in and was able to get a balance. Question is how long did he actually maintain a balance and did he get undressed and into the shower for a significant amount of time to feel the fluctuations in...

The rooms are not large but just the right amount of room for one person or a couple. I spent three nights there before I set off for Maui. It had the basic necessities in the kitchen and bath. No washer and dryer in case anyone was curious. The bed was comfortable and with the sound of the waves hitting the shore just 20 feet away, it made for a good night's sleep. There is no A/C but with the tradewinds blowing in and the fan it was plenty comfortable. That is how hawaiian culture is so embrace it. It is close to plenty of restaurants, grocery stores and other shopping venues. The view was great from the balcony. You can see the yellow tangs in the coral throughput the day and other fish if you look close enough. The owners or general staff that usually run the hotel were away and had some family from Colorado running it while they were gone. I wish I could remember their names but they were super friendly, helpful, asked if I needed anything every day. I chatted with them for a little while as I have family from the same area of Colorado. They were great to work with. The hotel was clean and well kept. If you do stay at the hotel it is best to have a small car to a small suv. If you show up in a Tahoe or Escalade you will regret it and will most likely park across the street. I had a rental Jeep Cherokee and it was tight. I recommend this hotel to anyone just as long as I am not trying to book there again. Thank you for a great stay and for making me feel at home. The Colorado...

We finally made it to the Kona Tiki Hotel the next morning. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and had our room waiting for us. Words can't express with how accommodating & amazing the staff are at this hotel, especially after a tough time getting over here.
The rooms are in the old Hawaiian style type decor. This is what we came for. We came for the character of Hawai'i, not for the character of New York City. The rooms are VERY clean and spotless. This is the place to come and unwind from the daily stresses of your normal life. The views from the room are absolutely phenomenal. The hotel is literally right on the ocean.
The hotel is also situated off of the main road but you wouldn't even know it. They have a little garden area that is fantastic.
Their swimming pool is great. It's a saltwater pool that overlooks the ocean. It's great to just lay back on the lounge chairs and watch the sunset.
As a person who has traveled to many countries and stayed in many hotels, this is by far the most relaxing. The most authentic experience of Hawai'i I have experienced.
I encourage you to really think about staying here instead of the generic chain hotels that seem to be the easy " go-to " place. With just a generic welcome.
You can always stay at a Marriott some where else, but there is only ONE Kona Tiki Hotel.šThe photos I included in this review speak for...
