THIS IS IT!!!! My husband and I ended up in Cashiers, NC on a whim this 4th of July week. Prices were inflated & Everything was booked. We were so blessed that Laurelwood Inn had just had a cancellation for the night. We immediately took it not knowing what to expect and not knowing the area at all. We were so pleasantly surprised because the price was so much lower than everything else and it was a beautiful property. A true retreat, nestled in at the top of a hill, right in the center of Cashiers. Bucks, the local version of Starbucks is literally right next door. The giant trees provide a cool canopy filled with the sounds of birds singing fill the air around you while shading you from the summer heat. The vibrant colors from all the landscaping is spectacular. Birdfeeders invite a variety of colorful birds as well as an adorable group of Chipmunks. This property has accommodations for everyone. They have regular rooms under $100/night they have suites & cabins. It's awesome. Very clean. Soft towels. Comfortable beds. Rustic cabin decor throughout. The 1st night we arrived the only room available was a regular room #109 it was clean and comfortable. The 2nd and 3rd night they moved us to the "Big House" suite #303. I didnt want to leave. There is a water feature, small rock river that runs in front of the "Big House", covered porch with rocking chairs overlooking the beautifully maintained landscaping. Flowers are everywhere. So inviting and relaxing. I felt like I was home. We had no idea but the location is truly central to everything. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond for us to make sure that our stay with them was a pleasure. They succeeded. I would recommend this place to everyone I know and love. It was such a special trip, celebrating my birthday and our 3 year anniversary. It was THE MOST PERFECT stay. I look forward to a return visit next summer and for many years to come. You won't be disappointed here, if you're looking, look no further....you found the perfect place. Enjoy Laurelwood Inn and Cashiers, NC....
Read moreShort version: stayed in the Brewer's Bungalow. Clean, large, well equipped. Location is superb. Lots of room for families or sharing with friends to reduce costs.
Longer version: I can only comment about the Brewer's Bungalow, which has quite large and roomy. Two large rooms with comfy King beds. Every room had a TV, ceiling fan, and its own mini-split AC, so you can set each room to your liking.
Kitchenette was well equipped with basics for those that want to cook instead of eating out a bunch. The kitchen has a two burner counter stop stove and a small mini-oven suitable for a couple of pizzas or basic baking. There is also a microwave and a good sized fridge. Basic cooking utensils and plates/bowls/etc. provided. Nearest grocery store is about two miles up the road on 64.
Bathroom has a walk in shower and plenty of towels were included. Quite a bit of wasted space in there, but you will have plenty of room for your stuff.
For this bungalow, there were steps down to it which would not be good for physically challenged folks, but many of the other rooms appear to be accessible for easier access.
Good: Clean, good location, easy parking, lots of space. Good value compared to other local options. Plenty of windows if you want to open up the place and enjoy a natural breeze. Parks, restaurants, and walking trails nearby.
Bad: The entire bungalow is rather sparse, bordering on spartan. Our room could have benefited from a more lively color and maybe some wall features to break up the large surfaces, but that is just my opinion. I would like for the doors to have a manual locking option. While I never felt unsafe, I do prefer having a manual locking option on the door like most hotels.
Summary: Loved it! This will be my default place to stay when I visit the Cashiers-Highlands highlands area. The Goods vastly outnumber the Bads. Staff was polite and helpful. Many room choices,...

I’ve stayed at The Wells Hotel several times, and this time, I opted for one of the newer cabins nearby. It was a fantastic experience! The cabin was beautifully appointed, with an open and inviting layout that made it feel spacious yet cozy.
From check-in to check-out, the experience was seamless. The front desk attendant provided clear instructions, making everything easy to navigate. The location is ideal—just a short distance from the downtown crossroads of Cashiers, making it convenient while still feeling tucked away in nature.
One of my favorite features was the kitchenette, which was fully equipped with everything I needed, including a mini fridge, toaster oven, and microwave. It was great to have that flexibility for preparing small meals. The coffee station was well-stocked, though the creamer lasted only a couple of days—still, a thoughtful touch!
The attention to detail in the furnishings was impressive. From the built-out closet space to the luxurious linens and stylish window coverings, everything felt well-designed and high-quality. The balance of comfort and aesthetics made for a truly enjoyable stay.
Overall, I highly recommend The Wells Hotel, especially the newer cabins. It’s a wonderful getaway spot with thoughtful amenities, excellent service, and a prime location in Cashiers. Looking forward to...
