It is so rare I take the time for reviews but it was worth it this time. I want to avoid giving away clues and other that is not already on website.
My wife and I did the Paris adventure in Hillsboro. Life has been so busy and crazy this was a mix of 33rd wedding anniversary, Valentine’s Day and both our birthdays rolled into one very rare night away for just the two of us.
You really will have zero interaction with anyone else.
My wife loves adventure and experiences but she hates blindsided surprises. She is a detail planner. I didn’t tell her what we were doing until the morning we we’re going to go. She did not jump up and down in excitement. We get there and she is very reserved wondering what this was really going to be.
However, The greatest moment was when we solved the first clue that opened up the first secret entrance. When that secret entrance creaked open revealing a staircase she turned to me with an explosion of smiles saying “This is the greatest thing you have ever planned for us!!!” And for like the next four hours we had the best time. She still can’t talking about it and we are planning on doing another experience this fall.
The clues are challenging but do not make you feel stupid. We did use QR code for one clue but I’m sure if we had been patient we would have figured it out. Nothing is timed and you don’t have to worry about zombies jumping out. I’ve been to escape rooms that seem to be nothing but keys and padlocks. This place is not lazy like that. These people put a lot of work into the secrets to be revealed.
Recommendations: We were already hungry at 5:00. So we dropped off luggage, did a Quick Look at room then went and ate. We were glad we did that. I would not want to get all dressed up again an hour or so into the adventure. Plus might have been a pain back tracking to get out to go eat. We went to The Porch and it was good. It was a Saturday night so about 25 min wait on table. No problem for us.
We ditched the robes. We found them a bit combersome for stairs, crawling, etc. we just went in our shorts and it was fine and easier. Not that we are prudes not going completely naked the whole time but there are for sure a situation or two you at least want something on to avoid friction burn! And the shorts are easy off/on as needed/desired. But robes are nice and comfy if you are taller and better coordinated than us.
This adventure might be difficult for old, disabled, or very obese people. We joked that we were glad we were doing this now while we could still able to get up and down. But if you have back issues, knee issues just know you will be crawling, stooping, getting up/off ground.
If you are claustrophobic like me, no worries. Any “small” spaces are very short and well lit. I had zero issue with this issue.
Cost is a bit high if on a limited income. I’m not saying they are overpriced But with all they do and the experience they give you I see why a weekend night can run $500+. We agreed it is a real challenge for the owners to clean and set up for each night. Plus setting up specifics you ask for. I had made this reservation so long ago I had forgotten a few things I had mentioned in reservation but the owners didn’t. Some favorite pop music from the year we got married was playing, certain messages written out, etc. We also looked at it like this, for us just about an hour away so avoiding big travel cost, we had a good dinner, nothing outrageous cost you might get going to bit city restaurant, and who knows how much you could spend on a sporting/concert event. We figured cost would even out in comparison.
Be prepared for a tall bed. We laughed climbing in being kinda short but not bad at all. Bed was very comfortable!!
All I can say is we had so much fun and plan to...
Read moreThis place was INSANE. I mean this with the upmost compliment, it felt like Twin Peaks doing Hogwarts. Nothing can prepare you for the mysteries of these suits. It feels like a fun house. Tunnels, climbing up, climbing down, all of a sudden your in the attic? Oh wow a slide, oh wow a moving train car, what’s this, another tunnel? The mechanisms for the spring loaded doors and hatches were unbelievable. Everytime we set something off we were giddy and impressed. These clues are actually quiet challanging in a fun way. The staging is very impressive, very fun. The amenities are very nice, and seem very expensive.
Now some things to be aware of: I remember thinking that this experience wouldn’t be good for people that are out of shape or that have a larger body type. I am of average size and some of these spaces were very tight to navigate through. If you have bad knees, not for you. If you get easily winded, not for you. These suits make you use your body in ways you havnt in years. It almost feels like a jungle gym at times. So if you are not prepared to move like you are 10, then you might not get far. Oh and bring refreshments! The room has a few snacks and two mini drinks per guest. But it’s a loooong night and you’re going get very thirsty. Best to bring plenty of water.
Critiques for the house keeping: There are a couple of objects in the room that made us question the sanitation practices. Because of the adult nature of certain aspects of these suits, I think it’s really important that everything FEELS clean to handle. The massage tools felt kind of greasy, which made us not want to touch them. The sanitation of the massage table itself was also in question. Clean sheets on these tables would be the way to go. The bottles of oil felt greasy too. This kind of grossed us out to be honest and immediately reminded us that other couples have been here.
Suggestions: I think you should consider marking your clues with numbers so that you can be sure they are getting done in order. We found one the last clues early and it sort of confused us on what we were missing. Also one of the clues got stuck in one of the trap doors so we didn’t find it for a while and there for couldn’t continue. But numbering the clue papers would be really helpful to stay on track.
But all and all we had an amazing time! I can’t stop thinking about it actually. I can’t stop talking about it to everyone I see. It really was unlike anything we...
Read moreMy husband and I were absolutely thrilled with these rooms. As a hobby, we enjoy escape rooms. Additionally, I love visiting old houses for fun. This combined both of those things. This was suggested to me on Facebook, and I thought it would be fun. I had no idea just how much I would love it. This is an adventure! Not just the house, but with your partner. We had so much fun that we stayed in the Night in Paris first, came back the next week and stayed in the Wizard room, then drove 4 hours away for the King Louis room!! We can't wait to do them all. They are pricey, but they were so fun. My husband said he has never had more fun in his life, and it truly felt magical. Each room has its own surprises and uniqueness.
When we arrived at the King Louis room, the person who works there told us it was the first room. I love that we could see the progression of detail that went into the rooms after having done that room. But they were all still wonderful.
Suggestion for couples - be sure that you can bend, crawl, slide, climb, etc. Don't forget to go back through the rooms again after you done them all!
A couple of suggestions for creators - each room doesn't need the body paint experience. I would recommend coming up with other ideas. A discount for repeat customers would be awesome! We had a few hiccups here and there, and it took a while for them to respond via texting the two times that it happened, but we were eventually able to work through it, and they were helpful. The only other recommendation I would have is that you allow folks to start the experience at 4. We found that waiting for our hand molds to harden (needed to complete in 4 hours), kept us up a little later than we had expected because it took a while for us to complete all the clues. Still though, what an amazing time! Please make sure all the things are charged. Just because it says 100%, doesn't mean it is. (100% dead maybe?). Thank you for the add-ons (videos, AI, Alexa (this really created the vibe with the motion sensing and music!), hand-casting, wand making, etc). The details were phenomenal. And despite us being buffs on escape rooms, we didn't find your clues too easy, so that was awesome! I hope you keep adding more rooms, extras, and keep doing this. It really brought us closer together. Just what we needed
