Hotel facilities have been renovated in the last few years, so the property is nice. I haven't been impressed with any of the staff except at the bar (1 great bartender) and one front desk lady. They do nothing special for Diamond members. As a diamond member, you received complimentary continental breakfast ($6 up-charge for what is normally a free hot buffet at other Doubletree properties), no diamond parking, no happy hour or manager's reception in executive lounge and even though there were available room for upgrade, they said they would only upgrade me for a night or two during my stay vs. the remaining 4 nights I had at the hotel. The night(s) they were willing to upgrade my room was Saturday and possibly Sunday, but Monday and Tuesday would be 2.5 times higher room rate to stay in that room, as it would no longer be a complimentary upgrade.
The hotel bar was hit or miss. One night (Wednesday) we went in there they had the touch-tunes jukebox going and a great atmosphere with personable bartender. On another two nights (Thursday and Friday), the jukebox was turned off and the bartender was more interested in watching an array of baseball games vs. interacting with the bar patrons. Come to find out through limited conversation with that bartender, he bets on baseball and was trying to keep track of all the games. All I can say is wow! So, it is more about him than the keeping guests at the hotel happy, which in turns creates more revenue for the hotel through drink and food sales.
The executive lounge offers continental breakfast, but no nightly drinks or snacks to Diamond members. It is simply not used in the evening.
I will say that the one and only crowd that this hotel really cared to cater to was the airline industry. As the property is located directly across from Hobby Airport in Houston, contracts with airlines obviously bring this specific hotel much revenue. As a matter of fact, they have a lounge that specifically caters to airline industry, or so it is depicted on the entrance.
Do not stray far from the hotel as it is in a sketchy part of Houston.
I would not stay here again and have contemplated moving to another Hilton property for the duration of my...
Read moreThe hotel is under construction so I would expect some noise and inconveniences. However, starting drilling, sawing and hammering at 7:30am in a hotel is a bit ridiculous! The first morning, Saturday, we didn’t get in until 2:30am. We were woken by the construction directly 1 floor below us (on floor 2) at 7:30am!! Called the desk and they were very sorry. They didn’t expect work crews on a Saturday. Ok fair enough, but we are staying 3 nights which means Monday would be our check out day. Were you not expecting crews on Monday or planning to move us in the middle of our stay? Anyway, they very nicely moved us on Saturday to a room on the 9th and top floor. Now about the rooms. The fridges aren’t actually fridges. There is a sign on them saying they are only meant to cool things slightly. Really?! What year are we living in?? Our room has no microwave. Ok I get it, things break. But that’s why you have back ups to replace it. Now on to Monday morning, our check out day. Construction started at 7:30am with drilling, sawing and hammering. 7 floors away (as far as possible) I could still hear it loud and clear! If there isn’t enough insulation between floors to dull the sound 7 floors away you shouldn’t be starting that early!! Never mind it’s a hotel where people come to sleep! 7:30am is just straight up too early. 8am rolls around, housekeeping knocks on the door!! We are checking out today. If we haven’t checked out yet there is a good bet we are probably still in the room!! Come on now, this isn’t rocket science. Why do you start knocking on doors to perform housekeeping at 8am!! You can’t tell me there is no way to run a list that tells you what rooms aren’t occupied so you can start there and not wake people up!! I’ve stayed at high class hotels and the cheapest of the cheap. Double tree, in my experience, has always been a great hotel chain. After this experience I’m going to think VERY seriously about trusting them with my service again. This was one of the worst hotel stays...
Read moreI am currently staying at the Doubletree and thus far, my stay has been undesirable. First the room the gave me has lots of wear and tear. Customer service is very poor here. As a gold member, I have stayed at many properties. When I checked in here, I wasn't giving any information at all. She did not tell me where the elevator is, how to get to the room, didn't mention any amenities, no mention of restaurant hours. She mentioned absolutely nothing. I had to ask how do I get to the room. I had to ask about my daily food credits. Even then, she didn't explain. She just said, "You get credits." I had to ask how exactly I use them. In order to get the information you typically get at check-in, I instead had to play the 21 questions games. In addition, I couldn't use the wifi the first night as you must enter your last name, and for some reason, my last name was not working. I later found out that they put my first name as my last name. To top it all off, I inquired about why my room type I booked through expedia was different from the room they gave me. The manager, Penelope, told me that she is not allowed to tell me. I was under the impression I booked a suite but instead got a king room. She never answered my question and just kept asking me the same question over and over again, if I wanted 2 beds. Although I explained to her numerous times, I thought I booked a suite, why are you offering me 2 beds? How is that a resolution? Then she told me the only way I could get a suite was if I paid an additional cost. She never explained the discrepancy, nor did she care to. She was very dismissive,...
