My flight got canceled at LAX due to snow in my final destination. So, I found this hotel on the Information booth at LAX. I called the hotel and got a reasonable quote. I was told to look for a van that said “days-in” on it and it should bring me to the hotel. That was kinda odd since I was going to a best western. Once the van pulled up, it was very old and rusty. The guy got out and put my luggage in the back. On the way there, he was blasting Spanish music and singing along, it was a show in itself. Once I got to the hotel, the lobby looked very nice. However, there were two people who looked like prostitutes hanging around inside. I kinda ignored that and checked in. I've asked if this was a safe neighborhood and the gentleman told me that it is a safe neighborhood. I went to the elevator, went upstairs, and checked into my room. As I walked it the room looked very clean and nice. I even took a piece of toilet paper and wiped under the toilet rim, which to my surprise was very clean. I took a shower, then decided to take a nap. As I took a nap, I was woken up by someone pounding on my door very loudly. I looked through the peephole and a guy was looking back and forth who seemed a bit uneasy. I should of called the front desk but I decided to put the chain lock on the door and open it an inch or so. I said “hello” and he said “wrong guy” and ran away. He had to be looking for drugs or maybe the prostitutes in one of the rooms I guess. I began to get hungry so I decided to go to the taco across the street (which I recommend). Google maps shows it back behind the waffle place in an ally. DO NOT follow google maps as it is incorrect and you do not want to go down that ally. If you go to the ally it will smell like weed. It is in the plaza next to the Starbucks. I ordered some carne asada tacos, which were the real deal Mexican food. Very similar to your standard Mexican street taco. I stopped at the deli next door to get some water and snacks, I wouldn't really recommend this place since it isn't really a nice store and everything seems old. As I was walking back, a security guy bothered me outside of the chicken and waffle place, then I walked across the street back to the hotel, checked my pockets and still had everything I've left with. I fell asleep early then woke up at 3:30am to catch my 4am shuttle. As I walked out a room nearby smelt potently like weed. Checked out of the hotel, staff was very friendly. A guy named Isa (or Iman, something like that) from Fiji was the highlight of my day. He was the shuttle van driver (they got a new van that doesn't say "Days-In"). He went above and beyond his job, had a great conversation, and left me with a smile on my face at the airport, which is kind of hard to accomplish for me at 4am. Overall, This is a very nice hotel to stay in if you have a flight the next morning, not so much if you're staying here for vacation. The neighborhood isn't the best but you won't get shot (I hope). I am giving the hotel 4 stars, just the hotel and staff. However, the neighborhood, weed smell, prostitutes, and guy looking for drugs banging on my door brings this down to just 3 stars. Definitely some sketchy things...
Read moreEvery part of my experience here was good. I was travelling alone for the first time, and was worried about safety, or dealing with other issues on my own, but everything went smoothly.
Before my stay, I got a call from the staff letting me know that I'd accidentally booked a smoking room and asking if I would prefer non-smoking. I don't smoke, so they changed it for me, which I was very grateful for.
The free shuttle from the airport (LAX) arrived quickly and got me safely to the hotel. The driver was safe, but drove in an unsteady fashion, stepping heavily on the gas and the brake instead of transitioning smoothly, that made me feel carsick.
The staff in the lobby were kind and helpful. My room was very clean (and I'm a bit of a germaphobe so I have high standards as far as hotel cleanliness). The only thing I found was a hair on the bathroom counter. But the rest of the room was clean, and even the bedding was spotless. I always bring my own sheet to sleep in because the bedding in a lot of hotels just doesn't look clean and I don't like to touch it, but I didn't end up using it because the bed here was so clean. There were absolutely no signs of bedbugs, or anything else. It was a very relaxing stay.
The free wifi was fast and worked well, even for streaming videos. Free breakfast was provided as well but I didn't try it because I overslept (breakfast ends at 9:00am).
The exterior of the hotel was nice as well, and the doors to the rooms opened into a courtyard rather than onto the street, which provided a sense of safety.
I'm not familiar with L.A., as this was my first trip here, but the hotel seemed to be located in a safe area. I felt safe walking across the street to the gas station.
My reason for staying here was to attend a concert at The Forum, which is less than two miles from the hotel. A taxi ride from the hotel to The Forum cost $10, and returning (with more traffic) cost $14. I saw restaurants close to the hotel as well, within walking distance.
The check-out process was easy, and the shuttle ride back to the airport was fine as well (this driver drove smoothly). Overall, I greatly enjoyed my stay, and would love to stay here again the next time I...
Read moreThis hotel made a very difficult day, turn out to be a day I treasured. I'm unfortunately a few months late posting this review. My experience... I traveled early in the morning, from Oxnard, CA, to catch my flight to Tokyo, Japan, only to realize my daughter had accidentally told me the wrong date and I was a day early. I sat at the airport realizing I had 24 hours to kill. I was exhausted from my past few days and was looking forward to resting on the airplane. My son in law found me this hotel via the internet. I was given a great deal, a shuttle picked me up, (both drivers were kind and efficient), and I arrived before breakfast had closed, so I was able to eat a delicious breakfast, (fruit, yogurt, rolls, toast, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, juice, milk, coffee, etc, is what was available to choose from). The woman in charge of breakfast had a lovely smile. Dee, at the front desk, was busy on the phone, yet was excellent in assisting me. The maid in charge of my room, hurried and prepared a room for me. I couldn't believe it! I was happy I still had cash on hand for tips. :) The room was perfect for me and the beds were comfortable, (although I only used one). I slept several hours and then met up with my other daughter who drove a few hours in order to have dinner with me. My extended day was more of a vacation to me than my whole trip had been. I will ALWAYS choose to stay here when I need a hotel. The people and the service was excellent! I took several photos to post but I'm having difficulty posting them. My room was good size, had two double beds, a blow dryer, sink, toilet and shower/bath. There was a nice assortment of soap, shampoo, rinse, etc... a coffee pot with a selection of coffee or tea, and my television was large and set in a cabinet. The bedding was lovely and exceptionally clean. I can't rave enough about those who work at this hotel and the service I...
