The hotel was under construction, but I was properly informed prior to booking, so my score had no bearing on this. Just wanted to share for anyone booking soon, if this bothers you. The location in terms of amenities, shops and food near by was great. The hotel is next to John Wayne airport, so you can hear airplanes, but they did stop around 9-10pm so it wasn't a bother when trying to sleep.
Here are the reasons for the lower stars. This hotel was not nearly the worst I've ever stayed at, hence why it's not a 1 star. But, we arrived and got settled into our room. We got a room with a trundle bed for our toddlers. We opened the trundle and there was no sheet on the mattress and had a sizeable blood stain. About 3inches by 8inches in size. The blood appeared fresh and appeared to have zero attempt to clean it. The cleaning staff clearly did not review all aspects of the room while cleaning. We called the front desk and asked for them to swap the mattress out. As we were already settled in and unpacked, I would prefer they just corrected that issue. However they did say we needed to switch rooms and I needed to come down to get the new key. After thinking about, I did think switching rooms would have been better due to the lack of cleaning in the first room. But I was a little perturbed that I needed to come down to get the new key. There were 2 people at the front desk, so just a hair of good customer service to make up for the inconvenience of switching rooms would be to come up to the old room, apologize, give us the new key, and see if we needed help moving. So we get to the new room. There was still some trash in the bin, which again, shows that the cleaning crew was not thorough. So I pulled apart all of the sheets to make sure there wasn't any other visible issues. Luckily I did not see any, other than the new trundle still not having a sheet. There was one in the closet, but I find it weird that this location requires the customer to look for, and put on the sheets. I've stayed at multiple springhills with trundle beds and this was a first. I would like to hope that the remodel will fix some weird things about the room. For example, the toilet and shower were in separate rooms and had barn yard style sliding doors that did not lock. The one with the toilet would also creep open seemingly at random. We have toddlers, so it was a nightmare trying to keep them out of both of the bathroom areas while we used the restroom or showered. The front desk team members weren't horrible by any means, other than not going all little above and beyond after finding blood in the room. They were just meh and not comparable to other locations. The breakfast was lack luster with less options than most and so we did not eat there. Finally, this also did not impact the score, but wanted to share. On the 2nd day of our stay, they left a note saying their gym and laundry would not be available. We weren't planning on using either anyways, so it did not impact the score. But I did feel bad for anyone that was anticipating using those services and they were unable to without given...

The Pros - *The wired Internet was fast. *Toilet & sink separate from tub/shower & sink - nice for family. *Clean lobby and exterior. *Good, but simple breakfast...same food each morning, including eggs and sausage, as well as all the usual stuff. *Easy freeway access, and close to lots of other restaurants and shopping. *Clean pool, but freezing cold.
The Cons - *Dirty elevator & elevator lobby *Cold pool, but clean. *Pay for parking *Bugs *NO LOCKS on bathroom doors at all. Hope your kids don't walk in on ya. *Red tape and additional forms when paying with company card. *Items in room didn't work, such as reading lights on the beds. *I felt it was overpriced for what it ended up being. Not as nice as the photos.
Upon doing what felt like way too much research on hotel options for a business trip that my family was joining me on, I finally settled on what I thought was the perfect place to fit our needs and budget - SpringHill Suites. Great looking photos online, and claims of having just recently remodeled the whole place drew me in. Once we arrived, I was very disappointed.
Yes, the exterior and lobby looked newly remodeled and clean, but that's where it ended. Just going up to the rooms in the elevator proved the reality of the place - The elevator floor was dirty and sticky. The carpet in the elevator lobby on the room floors was filthy and looked as if it had been weeks without seeing a vacuum.
Once in the first room, it again appeared that it was not part of any remodel. Lots of peeling wallpaper, paint in need of attention, and missing caulking around the bathroom fixtures. But it looked clean enough and we were tired. We pulled out the trundle bed, which was a major selling feature for us, and found....BUGS! No, not bed bugs, but insects nonetheless. The trundle was covered in food crumbs which attracted the bugs.
I went to the lobby and complained, and was offered another room to try, with no concessions or discounts for my troubles. We hauled our stuff up one more floor and tried this room. Same general condition, certainly not remodeled recently. But, no bugs at least. The reading lights on the beds didn't work, and it again looked like it needed to be vacuumed.
Overall, very disappointing for the price. I expected more, as I have stayed in hotels half the price that were twice as clean and in better repair.
Overall, I was disappointed and will not be staying here again. I expected better from the Marriott name.
Photos - Non-working reading light, dirty elevator floor (like that for days), carpet needing to be vacuumed (like that for days) and two bad shots of bugs on ...
Read moreAs a current platinum level member, I’ve visited many Marriott hotels/branches because of my experience with the standard of quality and cleanliness. That is why I chose Marriott for this particular visit in Southern California. Unfortunately, Springhill Suites Irvine fell a bit short from the usual experience I’ve had. Check in experience was great with the young gentleman who assisted me. I forget to get his name but he was friendly and welcoming, unlike his older superior who was barking orders. The rooms need updating, upkeep, and deep cleaning. The floors in the bathroom and toilet room need deep scrubbing as you can see where the layer of dirt has built up in the grout. The walls have very large stains as if there was a water leak from the top room that seeped down. One side of the lampshade had a huge stain but the housekeeper made sure to turn towards the wall so you don’t see it. All the hardware in the shower room are heavily rusted. The tub is worn in, creaks, and has a soft spot in the worn in areas. The hinge that holds the sliding door to the shower room was broken off so we had to device a way to keep the door shut. I was traveling with a friend therefore it was a big deal that the door couldn’t shut for our privacy when we needed use the shower. The check out agent wasn’t friendly at all. We had to wait for her to finish speaking on the phone to be acknowledged; she did see a line forming and never apologized or smiled. I encountered her twice on the day I was due for check out and her personality was the same unfortunately. A Patron in the lobby was complaining that the hotel charges for parking but failed to include security cameras. Unfortunately his car broken into a few hours earlier and he was upset that there was no compensation or help from the property. I understand that the agent had her hands tight with the matter, but she completely ignored the gentleman’s frustration after finding out that his car was vandalized. During this short stay, I did visit Irvine Marriott on Von Karman Avenue and the difference is noticeable, mainly with the staff. Everyone was smiling and very welcoming unlike Springhill Suites. I will be returning to Irvine soon and will have to stay elsewhere until I know this hotel has been updated and security measures in the parking...
