Updated Evening Of 7/7/2025:
DoubleTree by Hilton is synonymous with a warm, welcoming experience—not just the signature chocolate chip cookie, but a stay that feels like home. Unfortunately, the experience at this location is missing the "cookie dough" altogether. While the staff is doing everything they can with an older property and outdated technology, the experience falls short of the brand’s usual high standards. This hotel’s prime location near the airport makes it a high-traffic gem, and investing in modern upgrades through capital improvements would undoubtedly yield a quick return on investment. The team’s efforts to address my concerns were commendable, but without the right tools, they’re stretched thin. With some much-needed updates, this DoubleTree could deliver the warm, exceptional stay the brand is known for and truly shine in its ideal location.
Updated (7/7/2025): No one ever contacted me to make it right. For those reasons, service related to management only is receiving an update to 1-star. See photos.
Needs Significant Renovation, but the Staff Shines:
My recent stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dallas - DFW Airport North, starting this Monday, has been a mixed experience, heavily leaning on the need for substantial property improvements, despite the excellent efforts of the hotel staff.
Upon arrival, the staff was genuinely very nice and accommodating, and the lobby appeared clean. However, it's immediately evident that the hotel building itself is significantly aged and in much need of repair and modernization. The staff seems to be doing their absolute best to provide a positive guest experience, despite battling the limitations of an old facility.
Visually, the carpets throughout the entire hotel appear extremely old, and the hallways on each floor feature a terribly executed and outdated paint scheme. The most significant concern, however, was the pervasive musty or smoky smell, or both, in the guest rooms. Even after switching rooms to another floor, while the smoky smell was gone, the musty odor remained strong. This distinct stale, earthy, and damp smell is a clear indicator of mold or mildew, likely caused by excessive moisture and poor ventilation. This was particularly noticeable in conjunction with the cold room temperatures and the top layer of the bed having a noticeable humidity on it, further pointing to poor climate control. It was alarming to hear seven other guests at the bar discussing the exact same musty smell issue. Further adding to the concerns, older reviews also mention problems with cooling/ventilation and non-functional elevators. During my stay, I observed a singular fan in the lobby trying to cool the entire hall due to a non-working AC system on the first floor. I also had to use a service elevator, which was in a truly horrible condition.
As a Hilton Honors member, I hold Hilton properties to a very high standard of quality and expectation. The current state of this DoubleTree falls significantly short. I strongly recommend that senior officials from Hilton urgently conducts an audit of this facility to address the fundamental issues with the building's infrastructure, particularly concerning the ventilation, moisture control, and overall dated condition.
I am here for a 4-night work trip involving intensive work, and I'm genuinely worried about potential health impacts and not getting adequate sleep due to these conditions. While the staff here is commendably working hard under challenging circumstances, the underlying issues of the property are a major deterrent. I am open to discussing options to make this right, including relocation to a well-regarded/highly reviewed Hilton property nearby, compensation in free nights at other Hilton locations across the US, or a plethora amount of Hilton Honors Points.

Read moreWe stayed at the DoubleTree for three nights while in Dallas for a conference. We had a room on the 3rd floor, non-smoking king as requested. The room was clean.
The hotel has its own restaurant and bar which serves all three meals, and a coffee shop which is only open until 11am, and serves an assortment of pastries and Starbucks coffee (which I appreciated, as a Washingtonian). There is a Denny’s right next door, as well as a gas station with a mini mart which sells all the regular mini mart stuff. The access the the freeway is convenient, and the hotel offers free parking. The outdoor pool is seasonal and we were disappointed to discover it would not open until the beginning of May. There is a small fitness room with three modern treadmill, an elliptical, and a full rack of weights, along with some yoga mats. Totally acceptable for a hotel gym. The conference rooms we used were well staffed and clean. There were no issues in that department. We got catered lunches on both days and they were sufficient and tasty. The hotel offers an airport shuttle which runs to Dallas Fort Worth airport every half an hour all day, free of charge for guests. The hotel is a Hilton brand, so HHonors members can use the electronic keys on their cell phones to open their doors, and also get free WiFi and a warm cookie at check-in. I asked for a late check out (I didn’t need it, I just wanted to see the response) and was immediately given until 1pm to check out instead of 11am. There is a small “office center” in the lobby which has a few computers and a printer, which I didn’t explore beyond printing out my luggage tags for my return flight, which I found very convenient.
Problems: Toilet: Our toilet would NOT flush properly the whole time we were there. I noticed it was a slow flush from the first time I used it but then the second time when I went #2 it was really an issue! I had to call the front desk to come get it fixed and thankfully someone came quickly and it seemed to flush okay after being plunged. The next morning, I was half afraid of using it again but took the chance. To my embarrassment, it didn’t flush yet again. I called the front desk again and they said they’ll send someone again. We had to leave and it was “fixed” again by the time we returned later. After getting clogged for the 3rd time, my fiancé and I just ended up using the bathroom downstairs in the lobby - huge inconvenience. The shower: Every time we used it, the water temperature fluctuated so greatly from extreme hot to frigid cold that it was almost impossible to take a shower. It was pretty much an ordeal showering each day to the point where I just took a bath on the last day to avoid getting scalded yet again. Room service: Housekeeping seemed to forget to restock our coffee cups and our water glass disappeared after the first day and never showed up again. Also, the coffee creamer never got replenished aster we used them the first day there. TV: On our second day, we couldn’t access the TV guide or the menu on the tv. That was disappointing and we found out that the hotel was experiencing a hotel-wide issue with their service. It appeared to be restored by the following day. Hallway: The “Exit” sign was hanging from a mere wire only a couple feet from our room door, as our room was at the end of the hall. My fiancé, who is 6’3, had to literally duck to avoid hitting it with his head. Huge liability issue. Also the rugs in the hallways had seams which were split and parts of the carpeting were raised, causing me to trip over them a few times. We will definitely not be staying here again in the future and I would not recommend anyone else stay here, either. The only reason I’m giving this two stars and not one is because the front desk staff was so nice. I’m not saying they were able to fix the issues we faced, but at least...

Wow, this was a rough experience. Landed at DFW and followed the signs in the airport to the pickup point. The airport signs directed us to the end of the loop which was around gate C 4 or so. I then called the hotel and was told that I had to go to C24 and call back when we got there. Seriously, other shuttles were picking up there so why would I have to walk all the way to the opposite end when the shuttle would have to go right by me anyway? But we obeyed and went back into the airport and walked towards C24. We went to the general area around C22 and went back down stairs and outside. Well, you cannot get to C24 because it is all blocked off with barriers. I call back and am once again told that I have to go to C24. I said I do not believe that is possible, but were told we need to be at C24. We once again went back upstairs, and walked a bit further to an escalator that is supposed to go down to C24. Guess what, it is blocked off. So we asked a worker at the airport and they told us the area is blocked off and we had to go back to where we were previously. Sooooo, I call the hotel again and said that C24 is blocked off and the guy literally told me again that I cannot be picked up if I am not at C24. At this point the airport employee overhears and reiterates that the area is blocked off due to a sewer line breakage from the day before. I relay this and the hotel employee still does not believe me. I then hear him ask someone else (I believe the shuttle driver through a radio) and I hear the shuttle driver confirm that we have to be at C21. Now the hotel employee comes back on and said ok, go to C21. So this hotel employee had sent us on a 30 minute wild goose chase. We make it to C21 just to wait another 20 minutes for the shuttle. Had to laugh once we got onboard as another hotel customer was all sweaty and told us he did the exact same wild goose chase we did but he kept going and came out somewhere before C24 and the shuttle went buy him so he literally had to run it down with two large pieces of luggage and after already walking the full length of the C terminal as we did. To top it off, the shuttle driver tells us he has told the hotel numerous times to stop telling guests to go to C24 and they just ignored him. And when we drove by C4 where we originally were, he says that we could have just stayed there as he drives right by it anyway. I almost screamed. You cannot make this stuff up. You would have thought our shuttle adventures were over, but nooo. I made an appointment for a shuttle pickup at 4am. We go down at 3:55am to see a large group getting on the shuttle and filling it up, leaving a bunch of us behind and being told that the next shuttle is at 4:30am. You can imagine what the other guests and we had to say about that. So the hotel finally relents and calls up an Uber for each of us to get to the airport, with us all arriving about 20 minutes later than we planned. They knew from the reservations guests made that we all would not fit, so why did they not plan ahead? Throw in how old and poorly maintained this hotel is and the poor reception once we did arrive, and you have a 1 star. The guy at the front desk (evening of 7/12) acted like he could care less if we or anybody else checking in were even there, and certainly no thanks for being a Diamond member (have been for 15 years). It is very unfortunate that hotels like this let their service fall so far down hill. Those of us that experience the shuttle fiasco and the poor service will not be back, ever. You might be saving money now by not investing in your hotel, but you pay the price in...
