Came here with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. We got the night out in downtown package where we received 2 $25 vanilla gift cards which we didn't get to use in Jackson because the places that we went to didn't accept it. The room was okay. It was really outdated. The decor was nice but it was still outdated. It had an old south feel to it especially with the inclusion of the ole miss (a university with a racist history) memorabilia and the black workers in the hotel. I am sure it appeals to a certain group of people. I think the TV came from the very 1st generation of flat screen TVs or something. We didn't really use it though. The bed was okay. It was way less comfy compared to other typical hotel beds. The bed was hard and there were no heavy blankets. It was cold in the room. The bathroom was nice, but the day we checked in the water was out randomly in the evening, so we weren't able to take a shower before heading out for the evening. We called the front office about it and they said the city of jackson was working on the water. It would have been nice to get a notice or something, but it is whatever. At check-in, we scheduled a time to have our breakfast delivered to our rooms which was also a part of our package. We scheduled the delivery for 9 or 10am the next morning, but instead they brought the food to us at 7am. My partner and I were still asleep and we definitely weren't hungry. I asked the man who delivered the food why did they deliver it so early and he said the kitchen closes at 9/10am (I can't remember the exact time). I was annoyed because what's the point of setting up a time if they aren't going to follow it then my partner and I weren't hungry. The breakfast was extravagant, but it didn't taste all that great. My partner didn't finish their food only ate the bacon and I only ate the bacon and sausage on the plate. At check out, I confronted the lady about the gift cards. Told her we weren't able to use them at x,y, and z place. For some reason, she had a hard time comprehending that some places in Jackson didn't take prepaid cards. She immediately said that she cannot give us cash which threw me off because I wasn't asking for cash and we didn't pay for our room with cash. I wasn't sure if she was being prejudice or not because why assume we are asking for cash. If anything, I was at least expecting a partial refund to my credit card since the pricing of the room covered the 2 $25 dollar gift cards and we didn't get to use them. In the end, she just suggested us to use them for gas and I was like okay. Shouldn't have purchased the package in hindsight. I paid an extra 50 dollars for some gift cards and a breakfast in bed delivery that didn't even come at the time that we scheduled. This place is nice to stay at if you are trying to be in the downtown area, but save your money when considering the packages that they offer. I feel like somehow they will mess it up or something. Oh and their rooftop bar closes way too damn early in my opinion. Get drinks from the store if you plan to drink at night. Make sure they are cold because there was no fridge...
Read moreThe Old Capitol Inn is a beautiful, unique place to stay...if you don't mind the low level of cleanliness and the registration personnel that really do not care about the quality of your stay. The manager, David, was more helpful. I had made our reservations online through their website. When I did not receive a confirmation email, I called the 800 number. It was a completely automated line and could not find a reservation under my telephone number. I called the hotel directly to verify our reservations for a garden view suite. When we checked in, I paid the bill for the amount of a suite and she sent us up to our room. Our first impression of the hotel was having to share our elevator ride up with a dirty, stained, fabric utility cart that took up about 30% of the elevator AND some dirt and palmetto bug legs on the floor. I was so disappointed when I opened the door to our room. It was so small! There was just enough room to walk around the bed, decent bathroom, and no room at all in the closet. I did have a garden view...sort of. I could see part of the garden, but mostly our view consisted of a black awning. Well, I headed downstairs to question whether or not this was a regular room or a suite. The young lady at the registration desk, commented that when we checked in, she did see that we had booked and paid for a suite and that the room she sent us to was only a standard room. I was floored that she knew this before she took my money! So I politely told her not to worry about it and to refund the difference to my card. The manager, David, stepped in and was very apologetic about the mix up and switched us to a Jacuzzi suite at no additional cost. I pulled him aside and let him know about the utility cart and insect parts in the elevator. Again, he handled like a pro. The suite was beautiful! The bathroom was almost bigger than the first room they put us in! But... a few minutes after I filled the Jacuzzi tub up and turned on the jets, brown scum escaped from the filter, creating a very uninviting tub! We skipped the soak. In addition, the shower curtain had a large area on it that was coated in black mold. When I told the same front desk clerk, she just said, "o.k. thanks." No apology. While the Manager was very polite and professional, the registration clerk was a bit more disappointing because she didn't seem to care if we were enjoying our stay or even getting what we paid for. In addition, the house keeping crew may need a bit more training because their work fell far short of reasonable expectations of cleanliness. I did love the hotel and would consider staying again but if we had a similar experience the next time, I will promptly request a refund and head for the...
Read moreOn December 29, 2016, my husband and I stayed at the old capitol inn for our honeymoon. The room was fabulous. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom appeared luxurious. After an exhausting and exciting night we immediately went to bed. In the morning we were looking forward to having a relaxing bubble bath. Imagine our shock when we turned on the water and brown liquid ejected from the sprout. We then tried the water in the sink to see if a similar problem occurred and we looked at the water in the toilet. The sink water was brown, yet the toilet water was clear. We immediately notified management. We were outraged when the lady at the desk assigned the problem to Jackson. As locals we were highly offended, especially since the water in the toilet is supplied by the city and the water in the sink, shower and tub are supplied by the hotel. We then asked to speak to her boss, who then apologized and gave an additional excuse of plumbing problems. At this point we were just ready to go. We did not use any water supplied by the hotel and ended up going to our parent’s home for clean water. We later called the hotel and asked to speak to the owner. After being informed of her/his absence, they took our number and said she/he would call. We left the hotel at 11 am and by 11 pm on December 29, 2016 we still did not receive a phone call. Seeing as today is Monday, January 30, 2017 and we have yet to receive a call, we are very upset. I love Jackson and completely support the city. I highly suggest if one visits Jackson please do not stay at Old Capitol Inn. Again we do NOT blame the city of Jackson, we blame the Old...
