I think this is one of the best designed museums I’ve been to in a long time. And luckily it is free on Sundays! The exhibits are large and informative with the perfect amount of videos, animations and sounds to transport you into the story being told. I learned a lot about Mississippi I never knew. They have an area to send a post card to a loved one and an area to reflect on the museum. I think this is a must see for those traveling through the state.

This is the most impactful experience in Jackson. The Civil Rights museum takes your breath away by making you realize you are at ground zero for histroic racism. The history museum is a simple but enjoyable tour through Mississippi from the first people to today. Only $12 for both!

Very awesome place to visit, the history side was really Nice. Civil rights part was very informative, found of depressing but it is our history. Staff and security was nice and friendly and an extra shout out to the lady at the cafe 😀

Very nice experience. These are sizable museums. I spent 3.5 hours here, but I also tend to read all of the information. I would think folks should plan on about 2 hours minimum, unless you just plan to blow through the displays. The Civil Rights museum takes about twice as long to see as the History Museum. I really appreciated the Civil Rights Museum in that it presented the history very fairly. It showed the terrible abuse, but also the struggles, the victories and the heroes. I saw the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, AL, which only focused on the victimhood and nothing more. It was a really lopsided presentation, but this one is much more balanced. They also have several side rooms where you can see the more graphic side of the struggle if you can take it (and feel it is age appropriate for families). Bravo. Well done. For the price, you really get to see a lot. Highly...

My family visited the Two Mississippi Museums during our Southern Civil Rights roadtrip and it certainly exceeded our expectations! There are two parts to the museum--one part that focuses on Mississippi history and one part that focuses on Civil Rights history with a particular lens on the Mississippi specific events and policies. The Civil Rights historical exhibit took us about 3 hours as there was a plethora of interesting exhibits to read along with short videos throughout. What was really special though--was the opportunity to chat with a Freedom Rider who is on staff at the museum to hear about their direct experience advocating for change back in the 1960s. This stop is a MUST see when visiting...
