My mother and I arrived just couple of weeks before Christmas. Upon arrival I recognized the totally different hip and modern appearance and was really excited about the rest of the hotel. I figured the young gentleman's lack of a smile would represent this new modern style upon check-in. We went to our room and were very interested about what would await us. But when we opened the door and we were greeted by a horrible smell. I cannot say what exactly might cause the smell, though I did like the design. When I complained that this was really unbearable, we were given another room (again the gentleman at check-in said courteous things, but eyes and body language were just a different matter and would need improvement). In the new room again the same thing, and it got worse from here on out. In the new room the stench was overwhelming as well, and to make matters worse, the staff had the room at 85 degrees. Horrible!!! We figured out later why the heat was turned on beyond hot, or lets say we assume why later. Anyway, we did not want to cause anymore trouble, and I was exhausted after a 6 hour drive from home, and unpacked. While unpacking I stepped into a huge puddle of water on the carpet in front of AC. I touched that area of wetness and smelled it. Here it was! The water smelled like old moldy water, and that made this room a health hazard. The funny thing was that it did not seem to come from the AC because that was not wet at all and I could not find any condensation caused by the AC. It was almost like it should have come from the ceiling, but I could not see any dripping from the ceiling. I told the staff again and upon return to the hotel later that night we were told that the issue was taken care off. Well, next morning the same ordeal. Same wetness and the stench was always in the air. I believe it was a combination of materials that have been used during construction and the mold on the carpet. Either way, sickening to the bone. I talked to SPG about it and they told me that they were checking into it and I have not heard anything to this day, by now two weeks later. Here is my review to warn others about this hotel....
Read moreThis hotel was basically a midway point in a long drive home. We arrived late, check in was a breeze and my wife headed up to the room (we were basically there to sleep and that's it). While driving to the hotel we confirmed the reservation and were advised upon inquiring that they, "don't do upgrades" for SPG members, which we're used to (getting the upgrades). The rooms are sufficient regardless.
My wife took the cart up while I parked. When I arrived at our room, she was standing outside the door, complaining about an odor in the room. Upon entering, I could smell it immediately and it wasn't at all pleasant. There was one other room available, which was fine and we settled in.
The staff was friendly and efficient with one exception: the gentleman that came up to the room to address the odor issue, spray bottle in hand.
For starters, he said he couldn't smell anything. Well, that's fine for him, because we could and we're the ones sleeping there. He also stated that there shouldn't be any smell at all because "nobody has been in this room all day." Who cares? If it smelled before, odors have a tendency to linger.
After I'd gone to the lobby to switch the keys out, I addressed the gentleman's opinions to the front desk staff. He showed up soon after, saying, "Different people smell different things."
The last thing a weary traveler wants or needs is an opinion on what does or doesn't smell bad in a room. In the future, kindly fix the problem (done, thanks to the front desk) and keep your opinions to yourself (NOT done).
Good: fairly close to I-95, quiet, decent room, fridge, decent internet, efficient front desk staff.
Bad: other than the key-card holder and the usual choice of points or a drink, little else in the way of recognition for SPG members, no club lounge, one bottled water for two guests.
Indifferent: hotel is self park (no charge). Watch your toes; the fridge is under the...
Read moreThe room was clean....that's the only good thing I can say. VERY different hotel....and I'm VERY unhappy ......not your typical hotel. I stayed for 5 nights. They don't have a dresser in their rooms so you can't unpack your luggage....I had to live and dig from my bag. Small refrigerator on the FLOOR and NO microwave. My room was on the second floor and overlooked the Court Yard...ROOM 221....BIG mistake. The outdoor speakers from the BAR were loud... and on night two, I asked the front desk to turn them off or down, which they did....I had to call the front desk TWO different nights for the same reason.
What really PISSED me off was the GIGANTIC, NOISY, WILD PARTY on night 3 (Friday)....the Hotel actually RENTED out the Court yard for a wedding or bachelor PARTY.....or something......right outside the rooms....VERY LOUD music and DRUNK people SCREAMING CURSE words and WOOOHOOO.... the music was NASTY and VULGAR with PLENTY of nasty words. I honestly could NOT turn the television UP loud enough to drown out the noise. About 10 PM I STOMPED down to the front desk to COMPLAIN about the noise. The pretty YOUNG employee was having a blast and seemed to be offended by me complaining. SHE told me...... "Well, they'll be done about 11"....They weren't....the noise got bearable after 12. I didn't get to sleep until after 12:30AM. I WAS THERE ON BUSINESS AND HAD TO GET UP A 6AM. When asked at check-out "how was your stay"......I told her, she said she would make a note and apologized. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA HOTEL. Hope this saves you...
