I stayed at The Crowne Plaza Jacksonville Airport the night before a cruise based on the rating of "Very Good".
The first thing that struck me was that the hotel seemed completely empty. There was no one there and very little staff, a skeleton crew really. It was like a scene from that movie The Langoliers. Upon check in, I noticed a discrepancy between the rate that they were charging me and the rate quoted on my confirmation. When I asked for an explanation I was told that the hotel places a hold on your credit card for potential incidentals and room damage. Room damage???
I started to remark that this hotel must have a very dodgy clientele but I held my tongue, got my key card and went in search for food.
I looked around for the Proper 1822 restaurant that this hotel was supposed to have but could not find it. I went back to the check in counter to ask and was told that the restaurant was part of the bar. I said, yes, I saw the bar but there is no one there.
Just go sit down and someone will show up, was the response.
After waiting a respectable amount of time for someone, anyone to show up, I went back to the check in counter but then I noticed some guy coming out of the back so I returned to the bar
This hotel is old and dated.
There must be no service elevators. Every time I had to use the elevator, housekeeping staff were pushing large cleaning carts into the small elevator with me.
(I don't know why, there was no one there, how could there be rooms to clean)
The "renovations" are sloppily done as if by an amateur.
The bathroom cabinetry under the sink looks like something they found at a flea market and painted with ugly brown paint. There were no glasses or other things one would expect to find on a bathroom counter in a hotel. Someone attempted to put up Crown molding in the room but they used pieces that were too short and the angles were not cut properly. This they tried to cover with globs of clear caulking, lots of it. It looked as though several small jellyfish had gone up the walls and got stuck on the moulding.
There was a discernable chemical odor in the room which as the night went on began to burn my throat.
I spent the rest of the night with one of my t-shirts wrapped around my face as a mask.
The air/heat unit on the wall was very loud and noisy as it cycled on and off which kept waking me up.
I was very glad when morning finally arrived and I was able to get out of that room.
After seeing the following blurb on this hotel's website I was looking forward to at least having a decent breakfast.
Savannah Bistro
Savannah Bistro offers a refined breakfast experience that marries classic dishes with contemporary culinary trends. Open daily from 6am to 11am, this upscale venue is the epitome of morning elegance, inviting guests to start their day in style.
Whoever wrote this obviously has a very vivid imagination and has never been to this hotel.
What I found at this restaurant was the polar opposite of the description above.
There was a very small area of covered buffet pans which contained lukewarm sausages, crumpled pancakes (I think they were pancakes), biscuits, and scrambled eggs (obviously powdered) which looked like yellowish blobs floating in a lot of liquid It was truly revolting.
I had a biscuit and one lukewarm sausage (for which I had to pay $20 .)
I have decided that I no longer trust ratings on the web. They are obviously...
Read moreThis is a hard review because I have mixed feelings about this hotel. I should start by saying that for the price we paid, it was pretty decent, but as hotels go this one needs some work. First off we booked through hotels.com and no where does it state that there is a parking fee nightly on top of the room rate. It is clearly a huge thing for the hotel because I counted no less than 100 signs all over the place about it, so I found it weird we were not aware of it u til getting there. The lobby and bar inside the lobby was beautiful and very inviting. The staff at check in and at the bar was also amazing. We stayed in tower 2, and as soon as you walk in, you are hit with a musty smell as clearly the AC isn’t working in the lobby and hallways for that building. The floors were dirty and so were the windows. One of the two elevators wasn’t working either. The one that was working had broken tiles on the floor and trash as well. You can visibly see they are doing renovations, so I’ll give them that and maybe try the place again next time we are in the area.
The room was a good size, but very warm upon walking in. We turned the AC down and within a few moments in was comfortable. The bathroom wasn’t the cleanest, but certainly not the worst I e seen either, but cleaning could have done a better job. There was also only one towel for both my wife and I to use. The bed sheets had a few hairs and fuzz on them, but we wiped them off and enjoyed a night of relaxation. It was a little loud this morning at 7am, but not to the point I felt I couldn’t still lay around and relax.
All in all, for the $115 it cost plus the $10 parking, it certainly beat sleeping in my truck in a parking lot and I would...
Read moreI recently booked a stay at the Crowne Plaza Jacksonville Airport location. I was deeply disappointed with the customer service of the front desk clerk Crystal Perez and the quality of my room during my stay. My experience began with rude and unprofessional communication by Ms. Perez when I inquired as to why by room would not be ready for a minimum of 30 minutes beyond the 3 pm advertised check in time. Ms. Perez stated that if I was not happy with the late check in time she could cancel my reservation and that I could book a room with another hotel. I was not interested in trying to find another room at 3 pm after travelling since 2:30 am . Ms. Perez went on to state that she felt "she felt her life was in danger". This comment was completely unwarranted and completely unacceptable. Fortunately, her co-worker witnessed the exchange and immediately escorted her to the back. Her co-worker returned to apologize for Ms. Perez behavior and did his best to take ownership the situation. I was also advised that parking would be $10/night despite the fact that the website advertises free parking. if the poor customer service and surprise parking fee wasn't enough I eventually was assigned a room that was not as advertised. The bathroom was not properly cleaned and needed basic painting upgrades. I have attached pictures of the bathroom ceiling and door frame. While there was not much positive information to report from this experience I will note that the co-worker, Lawrence was a consummate professional throughout this ordeal and the manager on duty tried to make things better but as the saying goes, "if you put lipstick on a pig...its...
