When my husband and I return to Puerto Rico, we will not stay at La Jamaca. We booked our stay on June 1 for July 11-13. We received one confirmation email on June 1 stating the new COVID rules which consisted of things such as always wearing your mask and making an appointment to enjoy the pool. These rules were no issue for us, but less than 24 hours before we checked into La Jamaca, we received a phone call stating we need to provide them with a negative COVID certificate. At that time, my husband and I have already arrived in Puerto Rico and stayed in 3 different cities/ hotels with no issue. Mind you, Puerto Rico was not testing travelers until July 15th, this tule was created on their own. We definitely brought up how it was unprofessional to change rules at the last minute and also asked where could we get tested in Puerto Rico. They stated there was a local lab 15 mins from La Jamaca. The next day, we drove down to La Parguera and to the hotel. When we arrived we asked the specific location of the lab so we can test and check in, their ignorant receptionist stated that Walgreens does rapid testing. The closest Walgreens was 30 minutes north in the town of San German. We drove there and when we arrived, the pharmacy tech let us know that NO Walgreens in Puerto Rico does COVID testing. At this time, my husband and I were feeling frustrated about the wasted time, money & energy spent. We returned to La Jamaca and opted for a full refund since we could not check in and La Jamaca could not provide accurate information on where to test. Because it was a Saturday, EVERY other Airbnb and hotel in Lajas, Guánica & Cabo Rojo was booked. This hotel changed their rules at the last minute putting us in a terrible position. We essentially had no place to sleep for the weekend, but it does not end there! When I described my experience on my Instagram account, La Jamaca responded extremely unprofessional and rudely. I would NEVER recommend a place that speaks down on people and handles situations the way this company does. Do not support!!! There are so many other options in La Parguera to stay and enjoy. This place is further away from the beach and action, and already has negative reviews on their Airbnb account. Save yourself the trouble and book another hotel/ Airbnb.
It's a sad thing to see when a business cannot apologize for being wrong. The ONLY issue is the way La Jamaca has handled the changes of THEIR rules. Nothing else is to be said, but they will continue to argue with others and lie to make themselves look correct. I posted one post on an Instagram story and one review on Google. They were never threatened to have others make fake posts either. These posts are very real. Sadly, Weaventures was the email that was used to book our stay. In the end, it seems only screenshots will validate an issue.
Moving on from this situation, I hope La Jamaca can make well in advanced notices to their guests so they do not have to experience the nightmare my husband and I...
Read moreI had an issue to start, but it was not necessarily the fault of the hotel. I purchased a room using a travel site, upon inquiry the room actually wasn't available, they didn't have availability.
They aologized sincerely and offered me an alternate room, which i accepted. They told me its not the same room and that it had double beds.
I arrived and they we're so friendly, like genuine Puerto Rico friendly. I inquired a about laundry service, which they provided free of charge, I assume for the inconvenience.
The property is clean, the bar is nice, pool is nice, the room was small but very clean, it was a different than the pictures showed for their double (the third party site showed double rooms available as well as the king i had paid for) but not a huge deal. I slept good, but the next day I woke up to a flooded bathroom, I think a water line from the sink to the wall was leaking but I didn't investigate, it did smell. I mentioned it to the lady at checkout and she said that they would investigate and get back to me, insinuating a credit of some sort, which I didn't ask for, but she mentioned that they dont usually book people in that room because they have issues with it.
So aside from the mix-up, I would definitely recommend this place, it would be nice to receive some credit back but I understand that Puerto Rico has had a huge financial hit with their lockdowns and lack of tourism for many...
Read morePoor customer service and a poor way of handling issues. We would first like to note that it is important that people are cautious and practice safety precautions traveling during Covid-19. Puerto Rico as a whole has done an excellent job requiring negative Covid certificates, temperature checks and hand sanitizer throughout the island. Our issue is when a place like La Jamaca changes their requirements and rules less than 24 hours before a scheduled check-in. We have screenshots of their nasty response to our dissatisfaction with their last-minute rules as well. La Jamaca should not have been operating and allowing tourists to stay at their hotel if they cannot provide accurate information well in advance or respond to dissatisfied customers in an appropriate way. La Jamaca provided an email at 4:30pm, the day before our check-in, requiring a negative Covid test from the airport. Unbeknownst to them, we were already traveling through the island. Operating business in this manner puts other people in a bad predicament. Upon arrival, La Jamaca could not even give us a guaranteed location to get tested, which escalated our frustrations and the issue: poor management. In the future, we recommend La Jamaca to provide adequate, accurate and appropriate protocols and requirements in their confirmation email to guests traveling to their hotel to avoid the mess we experienced. Hopefully they can work on...
