We stayed here for three days and enjoyed it very much. The room view that is shown on Best Western's web-page is slightly different from the room we had. The photo makes it appear like there is a slight partition between the bed and the couch. Other rooms may have had that but ours did not. Not a big deal. Our room was spacious with a king sized bed, couch that would seat two comfortably but could seat three. There was also a desk with a chair. A small refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, ironing board and iron were also in the room. The bathroom had a three lotion dispenser in the shower for body gel, shampoo and conditioner so only one bar of soap for hand washing at the sink was included. The shower also had a retractable clothesline in it for hanging things to dry. A hair dryer was also available. One of the things that I really liked is that the bathroom also had a working exhaust fan in it. I hate getting out of the shower and having the mirror steamed up for hours!
On our floor was an ice machine and also a washer and dryer. I believe that each machine was $2 per load. The WiFi was good with download speeds in the 50 Mbps range. Instead of vending machines they have a small “store” with snacks, drinks and a few drug store type items such as pain reliever, toothpaste etc. They also have some microwaveable food and pints of ice cream!
The included breakfast was the usual motel fare. Cereal, yogurt, muffins and bread for toast. For warm food there was some type of egg, meat and maybe potatoes. And of course there was a waffle maker that made waffles in the the shape of the state of Texas! Texas is the only state I've been in where the motels have custom shaped waffles! Hot coffee is available all day long.
Since COVID a lot of places have gone to not cleaning daily and doing only towel service. This is the first place I've stayed in a while where they will clean your room everyday. Every interaction that we had with the staff was great. Mel especially was quite friendly, helpful and answered our questions as well as making sure we never ran out of coffee
This is the part where I would normally say that I would stay there again. This time however I can say that I am going back in January and WILL be staying there again!
Since my initial review I've stayed there two more times, once in January and again in July of 2023. My initial review still stands! A very nice place that I have no problem...
Read moreFor Thanksgiving we stayed here for the first time. It was the closest motel to our children. We drive from east Texas. We reserved a room for one night for Thanksgiving and requested a downstairs room, handicapped, close to the lobby so my husband wouldn't have to walk that far and a king size bed and reserved it with my credit card. Well when we arrived, Thanksgiving day, I went into the motel's lobby to get my key and the gentleman gave me the key and informed me that our room was upstairs but they had a elevator. So here we go with all our stuff and find out the room was all the way down to the end of the hall. Then the toilet in our room would overflow when you flushed it. We called the front desk and they came up with a plunger. And then we checked out. Then decided to try the hotel again for Christmas so I called and reserved a room and asked again for a handicapped room, bottom floor, king size bed, close to lobby. Well again when I arrived, I asked for our room and she told me it was the one that was on the bottom floor, but all the way at the end of the hall. We had to park down by the dumpsters and go in the side door around the back of the building. It was not well lit or handicapped accessible. Our key didn't work and had to stand there and make 2 more attempts to get in. The clerk that night was kind enough to help us load a luggage cart with our stuff and take it down to our room so she was there to help us unlock the door. I was thankful for her help, but that wasn't the point. I had requested 2 times to be placed in a handicapped room on the bottom floor with close access to the lobby. That's all I wanted! I'm not sure that we will be back. I dont like to be assured that we would have a reserved room and then get there and be treated like this. I could say more about the unaccessable handicapped room, but hopefully I got my point...
Read moreI have been staying at this hotel for years when I go back home to visit. Always 2 or 3 weeks. Worst thing (IMHO) I have problems with are the beds. They were so hard, every morning I felt like someone had beat me up bad. I have asked on two occasions about the beds, only to be told they had just put in new ones. Also, during my last visit, there were panhandlers hanging around outside, often sitting on a bench right next to the side door. However, I already have a reservation for my trip home this year. Number one reason being it is very close to my sister's house. Then their location to everything you could possibly need. Like food...aside from at least half the chain restaurants, right across the street there is a long time family home style place, Ginger Brown's Old Tyme Restaurant & Bakery. Aside from the home cooking, they make their own HUGE cinnamon rolls. Great for taking back to your room for a late night snack with coffee. Also, since I do stay for 2-3 weeks, there is an Albertson's grocery store in the same area as Ginger Brown's. I buy snacks, drinks, microwave soups and whatever I have a hankering for. They are really good at this Best Western to allow you to bring foods to keep in your room. Last thing.... the staff have always been friendly and as helpful as possible. And if you slip housekeeping a few bucks, they will treat you like their favorite relative come to visit. The room color scheme is less than desirable. Think olive or military green, with maybe some brown accents. Oh, for folks looking to visit the Old Cowtown Stockyards, or maybe have a drink at the largest honky tonk in the country, Billy Bob's Texas. So, all in all, you can't find a better place to stay...
