Read moreBefore I delve into my review of the Holiday In Express in Lathrop, CA, I feel it is only fair and appropriate that I disclose two key points about me and my relationship with IHG’s Holiday Inn Express Hotels.|First, I am a 100% service-connected Vietnam combat veteran with PTSD and also a four-stroke survivor traveling with a service dog. Because of the way my generation’s homefront reception upon our return home from Nam and the difficulty in obtaining employment, I have what my wife labels a junkyard dog with rabies toward anyone disrespecting my wife, kemosabe service dog, and me. Equally, this is also applied to management or employees with less than professional personal attitudes and work ethics.|With this said! My relationship with IHG’s Holiday Inn Express began in 2004 as the CEO of the Santa Maria Museum Of Flight and producer of their Thunder Over The Valley Air Show. While the airport where the event takes place has a major corporate hotel, I chose the IHG Holiday Inn Express in the city of the northern area. |Why? Simply because the hotel rooms, management, and employees were top-notch, and they gave my military aircrews and civilian aerobatic pilot performers the guest service and respect they earned. In the end, IHG’s Holiday Inn and Hertz became the air show’s sponsor for over fifteen years.|IHG’s Holiday Inn Express at Lathrop, CA, is a newly remodeled hotel that I believe is not only the brightest star and a rare gem in the hotel hospitality industry. They are not second to the competitors in other corporate hotels who could learn valuable lessons in management, guest relations, and employee work ethics. For them, just enough to get the job done is unacceptable. Striving each day to be the top-dog leader in the hotel hospitality industry is the only thing acceptable to management and employees. There is no slack.|The remodeling design of the rooms projects boldly IHG and Lathrop’s Holiday Inn’s message to its guests that they are members of the IHG family here, whether this is your first time here or a returning guest. For example, the bar-type sink near the coffee maker in the guest room made it less travel for me to fill my kemosabe’s water bowl and easily make lots of coffee.|The desk is more than adequate in size for a large laptop with an external wireless keyboard and mouse. The lamp and adequately padded office chair are a nice touch. As a freelance writer, I found it to be beneficial and an incitement to my writing stories. |The bed is a rare creature comfort amenity in most hotels. However, the firmness of the mattress here has the correct degree of softness to even get a person with insomnia to sleep and stay asleep throughout the night. In addition, the flat-screen TV is directly on the wall in front of the bed.|There is one feature in the bathroom that most guys and I are exuberantly grateful for: the presence of a counter area around the sink large enough for women and their cosmetics and hygiene products. There is enough room for a shaving kit.|If this is not enough to entice you to make a reservation here, then maybe having a hot breakfast will do it. Whether it be sausage, eggs, bacon, or other items are to your liking, one thing you can count on there is a different breakfast menu every day.|There are only two sad points in my stay here. One is the coffee brand. It is so strong it could put hair on your chest and on your bald head. So, at 77 years old, I travel with my famous brand of coffee. The last sad point is leaving my IHG family to return home. However, there is a bright light beaming through the darkness that I will be returning soon to reconnect with my IHG family.|Sgt....
Read moreOur experience at this property was highly mixed. First the good. The young woman at the front desk provided us with excellent service. She wasn't wearing a name tag, so I cannot identify her by name. However, she worked Christmas Eve night and was there again on Christmas morning. That ought to allow management to identify her and to be aware who is being referenced in this review.
This attentive front desk professional went above and beyond the call of duty to address a problem we had with the room we were given (an upgrade, mind you). The cable feed to the TV was not functioning, and she came up to our room to try and troubleshoot it personally. It was obviously a problem that required maintenance to resolve. She offered us an alternate room or additional amenity points as compensation. As we were traveling with a young child, we opted to stay in the room and accept the extra points. In addition to her kind demeanor and thorough check-in performance, the fact that she would go so far to assist us left us with the impression that she's an IHG superstar!
Now for the bad. If the housekeeping staff would have HONORED the sign on the door that indicates that the occupants are NOT to be disturbed, then that would have gone a loooong way to improving our stay at this property. I was appalled that even with the sign on the door the housekeeper had the audacity to knock and when no one answered the knock she walked into the room. Someone would have answered, but I was in the bathroom having just showered, and my wife was nursing our toddler son. What sort of "respect for privacy" training do housekeepers receive in Lathrop??!!
I've stayed in MANY IHG properties and have not experienced such rude actions by a housekeeper. However, in IHG's defense, someone must be reading these reviews closely, as apparently some of the content in my previous attempt to post this review was deemed "inappropriate." Nonetheless, although I didn't file a formal report, THREE different responses were sent to me regarding the housekeeping incident. I appreciate that about IHG, although I never really did contact IHG management, as Case Manager Jastine...
