I have stayed here a handful of times before and some of those other visits have been very enjoyable. However, this time was not so good. Maybe there's a new owner or new management. I don't know. First, let me say, this hotel's amenities normally include a heated indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, exercise and recreation room, as well as beach access via long stairway. However, beach access is the only one of those amenities which are currently available. That said, there was no reduction in price for the room; which I am wondering if that is becoming a new norm. But, a big upside and one of the best parts of staying at this hotel is the view from your room (if you have an ocean view room). The view from our balcony in building 4 did not disappoint. We had a jacuzzi in our bathroom so that offset not having the hot tub somewhat. The fireplace was nice and there was a comfortable occasional chair and two newer balcony chairs. The bed however, was horribly uncomfortable. We tossed and turned throughout the night and our backs were killing us when we got up. When we had first arrived and were putting our things away, my wife pointed out to me what looked like it could well be a pubic hair on one of the two dinette chairs. That could be a fluke though. But, when I went to fill the tub to get the jacuzzi going, I noticed a hair on the top of the tub (see attached photo), which apparently belonged to someone in housekeeping, or a prior guest. Unlike prior visits here, this time we had people in a room on each side of us, as well as above us; and the ones above us had pet elephants I believe (or so it sounded). We did go down the 100 or so steps to the gravel walkway and down to the beach and we went out on the beach for awhile. After going back up with my wife I went back down a couple more times to enjoy the beach and the waves. The beach, the waves, the balcony and the views and sounds were great. However, when checking out the young woman asked me how my visit was and I told her about being disappointed that all of their amenities were closed because I was unaware of that prior to arriving; and I told her about the two hairs, the horribly uncomfortable bed, the noise and also, I told her that I had stayed here before and this was not the stay we expected. The young woman at the front desk told me "that's too bad. I will pass that information along." So, I thought I would pass it along here as well, for others.

As a Choice Platinum member, I booked 3 nights (2 Queen, Bay view) at the end of September 2023. I was given room 53 on the upper floor with a view of the beautiful bay. The balcony can be accessed from rooms 52 and 53 through a shared outside door. However, the white aluminum outer door (see photo) could no longer be closed and was just hanging loosely in the wooden frame, which had already cracked several times. On the first night the outside door was blown back and forth by the wind. This made it loud and very difficult to sleep. On day 2 I showed 2 service employees the desolate outside door. They both promised to take care of it. Unfortunately, no one took care of the door on day 2. That's why the second night was again very restless. On day 3 in the morning I spoke to reception about room service (towels, shower gel) and the door. I was promised again that they would take care of it. Until the evening of day 3 there was no room service and no one had repaired the door. I showed up in the reception again and wanted to speak to the manager. A manager was not available, but should be available from the morning of day 4. At 5:30 p.m. the reception contacted a craftsman who came at 7:30 p.m. and fixed the door with 2 (!) screws as an emergency solution (see photo). So the third night was quiet and relaxing. On day 4 I asked to speak to the manager in person. The manager let me know through reception that she wouldn't be able to speak to me before the afternoon. Of course this would be too late for me as I had to head on. Furthermore you could not close the 2 little windows to the balcony side due to broken locks. The wooden door to the balcony needs maintenance too, while windy condition it shakes ongoing noisy in the old door frame. The water gets cold and warm while having a shower. The view is gorgeous and the prices too. Unfortunately the service as I experienced was not at all.

The Surfrider Motel: A Mixed Bag The Good: * Location, Location, Location: The Surfrider Motel truly shines when it comes to its proximity to the beach. You can practically roll out of bed and onto the sand! This is a huge plus for beach lovers and makes it incredibly convenient to enjoy those beautiful Oregon sunsets. * Budget-Friendly: The rates at the Surfrider were very reasonable, especially considering its prime location. This makes it a great option for families or travelers looking to stretch their vacation dollars further. The Not-So-Good: * Leaky Faucet Blues: Unfortunately, our stay was marred by a persistent leak in the bathroom sink. The constant dripping was not only annoying but also made it difficult to sleep. While we reported the issue, it wasn't resolved during our stay. Overall: The Surfrider Motel has the potential to be a fantastic budget-friendly beach getaway. Its easy beach access and great rates are major draws. However, the maintenance issues, particularly the leaky sink, detracted from our experience. If you're looking for a no-frills place to crash after a day at the beach and aren't bothered by minor inconveniences, the Surfrider might be a good fit. But if you value a good night's sleep and expect your accommodations to be in top shape, you might want to consider other options.

I was very excited to check into this resort. There was a featured indoor pool, hot tub, ocean views in every room, restaurant and bar, etc. But when I got to the property, it looked nothing like the photos. Run down building, restaurant and bar permanently closed, which is fine if the rest is good.

First thing, we tried to check out a movie that was displayed, only to find out it had not been returned by a previous guest, but was still displayed. Again, not a huge deal. We picked a different one. Then, we get to the room. It’s nice. Clean and both beds have comfy pillows and clean bedding. Fireplace and ocean view were wonderful. I noticed that we could barely see through the windows though, and the windows that opened had no screens, so I was unable to keep them opened to listen to the ocean like I had anticipated. Again, I can get past this. Same with the nasty rust water that comes out of the sink and shower faucet. Can it not be ran by out prior to check in when guests are known to be coming?

We decide to go to the hot tub and pool area. I tried to call the front desk to ask about drinks at the pool, no dial tone, phone does not work. I had to use my own to call the office any time I needed something. Then to discover that we were not told that the pool in an entirely different building in the middle of the parking lot. That’s fine, I’ll heat up in the hot tub! Or not……. No hot tub. Literally a board over it and NOBODY, including the concierge or the website, informed me of this. Not even when I called about rules. Pool is heated as advertised sure, but is in a green house seeming building that is not a heated room itself, leaving the heated pool to be somewhat pointless and extremely cold to get out of.

Get back to the room, put on the movie we chose. Fast forward a few hours to 4:58am, the conjoining room alarm goes off. Ok, they’ll turn it off. It continues. 30 minutes later, I knock on the door to see if they’re ok or up, room is not booked. It’s vacant and the alarm was never checked after last check out. I call the office, they don’t open for another 3 hours. So I got to listen to that alarm for an hour before it self shut off.

When I expressed my experience to front desk, it was said I would get a call from the manager. Well, I’m STILL waiting on that call. End result, I give my experience a 3/10. The positive comes from the simple fact that it was ocean front, and the office guy was cool when we checked in. Although not cool enough to inform us of the hot tub when asking about the pool house.

I am very sad and disappointed. Especially being that I rented this for a getaway with a friend who had traveled thousands of miles for...

We had a great time. Room was a bit disappointing, especially for a weeknight price of $165. Had one small bedroom. Was clean and beds/pillows, very comfortable. Fireplace was efficient. Happy that we found a tower fan in the closet, was extremely dusty but weak cleaned it up a bit and with nice for air circulation I was surprised that there was no unit or ceiling fan or anything. We would have just opened the sliding glass door but the screen was full of holes. However the locking device on the sliding glass door was awesome and felt very safe. There was one small window that opened but there was no screen on that. Bathroom was large. Lots of paint chunks coming off walls, sounds like a situation of "in between" building a new building so sounded like they were trying to do some small renovations until that happens. Earwig popped out of a creatively folded towel in the bathroom, gave me a jolt ha! But, other than that super clean. Restaurant and hot tub were closed indefinitely which was a huge bummer. Nothing open late, but we made it just in time for some dinner down the road at pelican brewery and was great! Check in was easy and clerk was so friendly and accommodating with finding us some DVDs in the lobby for my daughter and i, as well as extra linens and towels, toiletries per our request and really went above and beyond. I feel bad that its slipping my mind but I believe his name was Shane or something similar, fantastic customer service, flawless experience with him. The clerk in the morning barely acknowledged our existence ha! It was ok though. We LOVED the beach there, what a phenomenal area that we never knew about!!! Private little beach, amazing for low tide or skim boards, soft sand, open and far less busy than any other beach around! My daughter had plenty of room to chase seagulls and make sandcastles! No bathroom access at beach, so be prepared for that. VERY hot sand with the warm direct sunlight. Fluffy stuff that doesn't get wet often up higher, please be aware if you have dogs or kiddos! My feet were on fire!!! because I thought I could make it quickly back up the hill without sitting down to put my shoes on, yikes! Wasn't expecting that. Was nice at first, but no joke.Felt bad for all the little doggies and a toddler in just a diaper that plopped down and gasped. Poor little dude! We LOVED all the rock formations and cliffs and the view from the room was truly awesome! We will be going back! Pool was "ok" , kind of disappointing but my 5 yr old was just happy to be in there with Mama enjoying life, that's All that mattered to me at the...
