I fully expect this review to be removed. I stayed here for two nights. Checking in on the 12/23/2024 and checking out on 12/25/2024. I booked through Sonesta under whose umbrella America's Best Value Inn operates as a franchise. Let's start with my check in. I originally booked a single bed queen but I changed the reservation to a double bed queen because of the the possibility of another person joining me. The change in room type already resulted in me paying more money but that's ok and acceptable. While checking in I advised the front desk employee, who is the manager so her lack of knowledge was inexcusable, that I had a service dog with me. She immediately asked me to provide documentation which is illegal under ADA guidelines. However, due to previous experiences at hotels, I decided to accept that and pay the pet deposit as I didn't have the documentation readily available. Also because I switched rooms I was charged an additional fee for having another guest, which I had said I wasn't sure if they would come or not, they did not come so they charged me extra for no reason. So a room that I booked for a total price of $63.23 it turned out I was charged a total of $81.90. I contacted the corporate offices of Sonesta and told them about the experience. The corporate office tried to call them multiple times and they got no answer from the front desk dispite the hotel being basically empty. They also emailed the property regarding the incident to which I will come back to later. I had to book another night for 12/24/2024. When I went to make the payment I provided the front desk with my documentation for both housing and for employment, despite them legally not being able to ask for this. She again tried to argue with me that my dog was an ESA when the documentation clearly said service animal. She said she'd talk to the owner and see what to do and she only charged me for the room. I also advised her that it was only me in the room so I was charged for a person that did not exist. She of course instead of offering to refund that charge or discount my reservation instead threatened to charge me more money. So about 5 minutes after I paid for the reservation only she came and knocked on my door and told me I had to pay the pet fee or leave the property immediately. I agreed to pay it because I had no choice at the time. So they response about corporate emailing them was, "Its the same as what your documents said." anyway due to circumstances I had to book a third night. I would've had the money on my card to pay for the reservation if I wasn't continually charged additional fees which should have been refunded. Anyway I had the money in another account but that account was having technical issues and it being Christmas I couldn't contact them to fix it. I agreed to check out of the room dispite me having no place to stay. They called the police on me after I had already vacated the room, not because I was causing problems but because I was still on the property. Now about the room. They had Motel 6 comforters on the bed so a hotel they aren't even associated with. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting and the bath and shower borderline unusable because of how dirty they were. There's absolutely no chargers in the room. Oh and to add to it, because she only gave me 10 to be out of my room before she called the police in my hurry while attempting to control an ongoing anxiety attack I forgot one of my very expensive pillows in the room. I can't go back to get it because as i've been told I'll be arrested if I come back to the property. I had an advocate from a advocacy group for service dogs call and the person calling told them that if anyone else calls them about my case they will call the police. So don't stay here. They are thieves and will make up reasons to charge you more money and then call the police when you try to get...
Read moreWe arrived on 8/3/17 for a one night stay on our road trip to Illinois from Denver. After 7 hours of driving after an 8 hour work day, I was extremely tired by the time we reached this hotel. I made our reservation on Travelocity prior to our arrival and now I know why this place is so cheap. The pictures online led me to believe that it was fairly decent (I wasn't expecting the Ritz), but walking down the halls was the first red flag of the nightmare that was yet to come. The further we walked down the hall, the more it started to smell like cigarette smoke. I thought that somebody was being naughty and smoking in their room. Where I come from in Denver, nobody is still allowed to smoke anywhere so, I guess I forgot about smoking rooms even being a thing! As my husband, 6 year old son, and I entered the room, an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke mixed with the odor of someone just using the restroom filled our tired lungs. I was immediately grossed out, but too tired to lug all of my crap back down stairs to complain. I just assumed that somebody had smoked in the room, but I still didn't realize that they put us in a smoking room? Our pillows were scattered on the bed, the toilet paper roll was empty, hairs and ash all over the room, dry wall patches covering the walls, and an overall sense of unsanitary conditions left us very saddened. I wish I had gone back down to get a new room, but at the time, I was so tired and didn't think there was a better room. I thought that all of the rooms must be like this and that the place was a total dump and I was getting what I paid for. I put t-shirts on the pillows, had my son sleep in his little sleeping bag on top of the blankets (thank God we pack it), and my husband and I slept on top of the covers. ||||The next morning, I asked her if she had put us in a smoking room and she said "yes, that is what you reserved". I sure as hell did not reserve a smoking room and wondered how that could've possibly happened. Didn't she see me come in with a child? Couldn't she have said "you wanted a smoking room, right"? and I would've said "absolutely not"! But, apparently I should've requested a non-smoking room even though I didn't even think smoking rooms were a thing anymore. Also, is it protocol to not clean up smoking rooms? They are so yellow and gross so, what is the point of cleaning them properly? I wouldn't have been so upset had it at least been clean and stocked with all of the essential toiletries. UGH. So gross.... spend a little more money and stay at a better place. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this...
Read moreI don’t normally write negative reviews, because I try to fix whatever problems when they occur. Paid cash for a room and provided an additional $100 deposit since I didn’t have a card on file. The room was what you’d expect for the price, so that’s fine. Upon checkout, the front desk lady was not friendly and she refused to return my deposit because we had a drink spill so we used one of the towels to clean it up. Accidents happen, I figured it wouldn’t be a problem. There were 4 towels and only 1 cleaned the mess up. I apologized and offered to pay for the cost of the towel with the deposit. She absolutely refused to work something out and when I asked for my policy that I signed she refused to give that as well. Wouldn’t even give me the towels that i basically paid for. Definitely not no $100 towels! Tried to ask for upper management contact info and a copy of the agreement and she declined and proceeded to threaten to call the cops if I didn’t leave. I booked this room because im on a budget. The deposit was my travel money and it really impacted the rest of my trip. Ended up paying $165 for the room. Not even sure if the deposit went into the drawer or into her own pocket. If customer service had a tutorial on “what not to do when resolving a customer issue” these people would take 1st place. Anytime I come to Lincoln this is where I’d stay up until now. It’s unfortunate and I hope this doesn’t happen to other guests. Tip: Pay the extra cost to stay across the street where I DID...
