17 February 2025 Quick update
I wanted to try something else today, so I tried the Fried Gyoza and Teriyaki Chicken with broccoli and steamed rice. I enjoyed the steamed rice much more than the fried rice. Both the appetizer and the entree were very good. I don't understand why the fried rice was so greasy. It isn't greasy when I order fried rice from Chinese food restaurants.
I forgot to mention that Akita accepts Apple Pay. I really appreciate that. 16 February 2025 First visit
It's too bad that Lincoln lost a Burger King, but its closure created an opportunity for another restaurant. It's cool that we ended up with a Japanese food restaurant. I knew about Akita because I drove by it several times, but it wasn't until I read a 5 star review on Yelp that I decided to give it a try. I ended up going there for dinner tonight.
After looking at the menu for a few minutes, I decided to try the Chicken Karaage for the appetizer and the Hibachi Chicken with fried rice for the entree. While the fried chicken appetizer was good, I don't believe it was worth the $6.95 price. I am sure the cook made a mistake in my favor and gave me the Hibachi Steak because what I got looked and tasted like steak. I'm ok with that. The steak, mushrooms, and fried rice were good, but the fried rice was a bit greasy. As for the sauces that came with the meal, the one that's yellow was just ok. It had a hint of spiciness that I really didn't notice until I exhaled. I felt it in my nose. The orange sauce was excellent. I tried both with the fried chicken and steak.
I didn't have to wait very long for my food. It was served hot and fresh too. I ate inside this time because I wanted to see the inside of the restaurant and take pictures. The staff was friendly. I recommend taking your own silverware if you are going to eat there because they only give customers a plastic fork. Will I be back? Yes. I enjoyed the food, and I look forward to trying their...
Read moreBeen here twice - drive thru both times. First time was OUTSTANDING!!
Second time was at 1130 a.m. so first thing after they open. The smell between the drive-order speaker and the window was nauseating at best. The odor was like a cross between old raw sewage and dead animal. They were doing construction right next door and that's probably where there was smell was coming from. Either way, it did not help inspire appetite.
We ordered teriyaki chicken and teriyaki steak. Rice was overcooked and both meats were very dry. Mushrooms were right on point!
I called and asked if they use meat from the previous day or make it fresh. The manager I spoke with said it is made daily on the day they serve it.
I told the manager that the rice, steak and chicken were all dry like they had been overcooked or had been in the refrigerator overnight and just dried out. Her response was, "Thank you for letting me know. Goodbye". There was no apology, no offer to make corrections, just thank you and goodbye.
So, my experience has been mixed as far as the food is concerned. One time it was outstanding the next time it was (mostly) crappy. Crappy smell at the order window, outstanding customer service from the gal at the pickup window, food that I had been boasting about to my friends turned out to be a big flat flop except for the mushrooms. Then, the manager doesn't even say I'm sorry when I took the time to call.
I will probably try a third time which may, or may not be my last time, depending upon how they do.
There was a teriyaki drive-thru in every square mile of my hometown. I miss that. This is the only place I found in Lincoln. I really hope they do...
Read moreTwo people was $36.00 at 1:30 on a Thursday. We ordered drinks, teriyaki chicken with fried rice, and hibachi beef with mushrooms and fried rice. The service was acceptable considering there was one person at the register and one table of two seated in the entire restaurant. Our food was served in a reasonable amount of time. The teriyaki chicken was okay in the sense that it was cooked chicken with teriyaki sauce. The hibachi beef was okay in the sense that small pieces were not overcooked and were tender and had flavor, however the larger the pieces got the less cooked they were and the less flavor they had. The fried rice was pretty flavorful and not greasy but not fluffy, the fried gyoza was great. Unfortunately we paid for beverages and there was zero carbonation in any of the self serve fountain drinks so the only acceptable options were iced tea or lemonade. Put all of this on your table and imagine yourself sitting in a humid restaurant with the same old sticky floors and appearance of an old Burger King. Nothing close to any of the good teriyaki places we have had. It's more like a "drive through to sit and wait for your food while the obnoxious drive through timer goes off annoying everyone seated inside to eat, to take your food home and add what you can to make it taste good" kind of place. Honestly, I can make better...
