Mildew (possibly mold), dirty, and bugs. I have never been upset enough to write a bad review, because I try to give everyone "the benefit of the doubt" and not air things publicly, but deal with a business directly. However, in this case, I feel it is obvious at least some of the issues are do to an ongoing lack of caring at all for keeping things in decent condition, and I do not want others to pay for the same experience I did. In my case, I was travelling for business with my reservation prepaid by my employer; so I felt like my choices were between staying in my room or sleeping in my vehicle, since I could not afford to put myself up in a different hotel. I came very close to sleeping in the vehicle, and would have preferred that to the room overall except for security concerns. There was either mildew or mold (black growth with musty/dank smell) on the window curtains above the AC/heat unit, on the bottom of the shower curtain, and at various places around the edge of the tub grout, etc. There were several cleanliness issues with the bathroom that might have been overlooked as a meaningless accident if only one, but put together showed the total lack of good cleaning. There was a puddle of water on the counter. When I went to close the curtains, I saw several stink bugs in the window. I know that can happen this time of year, but for there to be 5 or 6 in the window seemed again to show me there was no thorough cleaning. The last straw was when I opened the bedside table drawer, and a roach in the drawer scurried away from the light. I really did almost go to my truck, but I ended up sleeping with all of the lights on after a thorough inspection for bedbugs, which did not turn up any. Needless to say, I did NOT shower, barely touched anything, etc. I left a comment card for management, and I hope this will...

The AC in all of the guest floors is kept off most of the time so when my wife and I went to a room on the third floor, we were greeted with a strong musty odor only to find it stronger in the room. Management had also placed a box fan on the floor in the room in an effort to dry some wet phantom stain on the run. Upon further inspection, the comforter was covered with numerous stains. Needless to say, we asked to be moved.
The second room had less of an odor but still had its fair share of issues. There were spiders and other bugs in the room. There also was only a tiny amount of toilet paper in the room and no spare. When we asked for more, we were given a single roll with the hope that we would not require more during our stay. The coup de grâce came the following morning when we were preparing to start our day. We found used soap in the bathroom, leftover from the previous guest as well as another gift from a previous resident, coffee grounds that had been left in the pot long enough to grow some disgusting white fungus.
When we confronted management with these numerous issues and asked for a refund, we were not only challenged on the veracity of our claims but a member of the cleaning staff was sent to verify that there was in fact fungus in our coffee pot. We were eventually refunded our payment but only after an extended debate with management about the service that a hotel should be providing and the numerous instances they failed to provide this.
Do yourself a favor, find another hotel. Also, the review below by Bharat Patel extolling the virtues of the hotel... He's the manager that argued with me about why I shouldn't...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for a week for some trail hiking and ancestry cemetery fun. The only problem we had, which was minor and not the hotels fault, was a fire alarm issue at 12am 2am 6:30am lol, which was handled by the owners promptly. The staff here are amazing and always greeted with smiles and that southern charm and hospitality. Breakfast was great when compared to others, Coffee was always delicious and fresh, especially when the temps dropped to 30 degrees. The location is fantastic. It puts you in arms reach to I20 and just up the road from I65. Talladega race track is just 20 minutes away. ( We highly recommend the track tour) You are also within a 30 minute to an hours drive to so many amazing hiking trails, waterfalls, caves, museums, antiques, restaurants, and so much more. Talladega National Forest has the most amazing views you'll ever see. Kymulga Grist Mill Park is another location we highly recommend, especially if you like stone ground grits, cornmeal, or flour. All made the old-fashioned way. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews cause they are far from what we experienced here. We highly recommend this hotel if you like a soft, comfortable bed fantastic service and...
