i always look forward to visiting Birdie House. I've attended several events: poolside movies, Figgin Fest (a celebration of the fig bounty in late summer), High Tea on the lawn on a beautiful, warm December afternoon, and a reading of a cherished Christmas story inside the main entrance with a large group of friends in the holiday spirit - all unique and memorable times at Birdie House. The warm, gracious, accommodating personality of Kara, the owner and host, is what make each visit such a delight. The house itself is spacious yet cozy at the same time, and always comfortable and inviting. Even though it is on a main street in Lockhart and easily accessible, when you're inside the house, or relaxing by the pool, or wandering the grounds, you feel like you are isolated from any outside distractions. If you have an opportunity for an overnight stay, or and extended stay, or a one day event, you should experience the hospitality, warmth, and comfort of...
Read moreThis house is INCREDIBLE and that's not an overstatement. The property itself is just gorgeous, I would be hosting backyard parties regularly with the spacious grass and beautiful pool, this place woud be perfect for a wedding or other group event. The house itself was built pre-1900 and has been fantastically appointed, along with the current touches that Kara has applied. Our host was wonderful to meet, very accommodating and responsive but really, all our needs were met from the time we arrived for the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival. Very close to the square, easy to park and leave, and just so cool to walk around the house and marvel at it. Pricing was fair, the clawfoot tub soak was awesome, and the things like an available fridge and laundry area for use if needed was perfect. We will for damn sure be back, hopefully we get to see Kara perform sometime. All in all, a perfect weekend and her home and hospitality was a huge part of...
Read moreBirdie House feels like home! I don’t want to leave. It welcomes you with an older-time dignity, and Kara is anxious to share its history. The dark wood, stained glass, staircase, sliding pocket doors, they calm me and remind me “There’s history here.”. A music room?! A library?! A formal dining room and butler’s pantry?! Five fireplaces?! Where do you see those anymore? The house & grounds are thoughtfully curated from Kara’s life. The salt water swimming pool is its own adventure. Meals and gatherings at Birdie House fill my heart! Birdie House is my happy place!...
