I have never felt inclined to leave a review for a hotel before. This is lengthy because I want to address some of the prior reviews that I have read in addition to leaving my own feedback. The location is incredible. I stayed there for several days in August with my wife and 2 kids and found it to be the safest neighborhood i visited in all of SoCal. It was extremely clean and tidy and in a very upscale location. It took me about 30 minutes to walk at night to the rodeo drive area where I was able to see all of the designer brands flagship store fronts and look at some awesome supercars. With a sharp eye, binoculars, or a camera on zoom, you can even see the hollywood sign from the balcony! The patio area is amazing! We spent as much time out there as possible. The happy hour drinks were delightful when we were able to be there for that. The urban charge is very transparent. Anybody who claims to have not known about it did not pay attention. It was clearly stated on the booking page as well as every invoice up to the time that they actually charged me for our stay. I would have interpreted that fee as a "beverly hills surcharge", which is very common in places like the Chicago loop, all of NYC, and in other upscale parts of Cali that I have visited. They are actually using this $22/night fee to provide icy cold water in the exercise room available 24hrs by the patio, and ice cold beers and delicious chardonnay between 530-730 in the lobby. We received 4 alcohol drinks total each day we were able to be present during those times for only $22!! There is no place in all of California where you are going to get a 16oz craft beer or a glass of chardonnay for $5, furthermore not many hotels have a water cooler available for free all day. Most have warm Fiji waters next to the tv for a $5-$10 upcharge added to your room. This was an incredible perk! The room was clean and exceeded my expectations. The staff was wonderful!!! Every single employee I encountered, even the cleaning staff, was extremely friendly, and I never saw any of them without a smile. The gentlemen who checked us out, who I believe was the owner or the manager, was extremely personable and engaging with us. There is a very small amount of renovation going on right now. It did not affect our stay at all. Renovation in a hotel is necessary and has to happen sometime. These folks are ensuring that it doesn't impact guest visits. If not for the brand new floor tiles on the deck not suitable for walking on yet and having caution signage, I would not have even noticed the construction right in front of me. The parking, like everywhere in LA is not free. There were alot of empty spaces available at all times in the lot. The spaces were large and not hard to utilize. There is also a vast amount of street parking available at the meters right outside of the hotel if you do not have a vehicle during your entire stay. Overall, I would recommend this to anybody who would prefer to stay in Beverly Hills as opposed to near the airport or the beach. If you are looking for a four seasons experience at wyndham hotel prices like alot of the reviewers appear to have been seeking, keep looking . Please do not acknowledge those reviews as you will be doing yourself a great disservice by doing so. If you are looking for a great family experience in a comfortable, classy, hospitable, safe, clean, and friendly environment at a price point that is comparable to a crummy airport hotel, book at the...
Read moreThis is a diverse and honest review based on our stay. It should be noted first and foremost that the hotel is undergoing construction in the main courtyard. It appears this construction will be going on for quite some time. This was NOT disclosed when we booked our stay. And, it was not closed off when the workers left. If guests have kids, keep an eye on them should they choose to wander into the construction area. ||Here are a series of notes:|1. The location is great. It’s just a short drive to the Cedars-Sinai facilities and a short walk to great food venues along Pico. The area feels very safe. |2. The parking area is very tight and very limited. Anything larger than a small SUV will have trouble getting in and getting out. Also, there are very few on-site parking spots. And, the cleaning staff parks there as well. |3. The building has a cool, retro vibe. My wife and I appreciated the art deco colors and details. Keep in mind that this also means that everything is dated. Outside, they have broken tiles in the walkways, cracked and peeling paint, funky conduits and pipes running every which way. In our room, the retro furniture was pleasant but the bathroom had old caulk joints, cracked cover plates and a damn-loud bath fan. |4. The beer and wine reception is a joke. Part of their Urban Fee included a beer and wine reception in the courtyard. Since the courtyard is under construction, the reception was nowhere to be found. We inquired at the front desk and the attendant went into a storage room and brought out some old wine bottles and a couple cans of beer. While the attendant was gracious enough to give my wife an unopened bottle of Yellowtail, we later found that it had turned to vinegar. |5. The sun deck was closed off by caution tape due to the construction. Again, part of the Urban Fee is access to the sun deck. At this point, I believe the Urban Fee means they have a functioning front door that accesses a sidewalk. |6. The picture of the “fitness room” clearly illustrates how large the fitness room really is. It was an intimate space with my wife on the treadmill and me between the wall and the dumbbell tree. In other words, even one person in the room would be considered a crowd. At least they have a treadmill, a recumbent bike and a dumbbell stack that goes from 5# to 50#. |7. It’s an older building, so expect to hear your neighbors. In our case, a couple with children checked in next to us at near midnight and proceeded to loudly crash about the room like it was recess at the grammar school. |8. The lobby was a bit odd. Besides some obvious signs of construction, they have a funky coffee area and a microwave on a stool. The good news is they have tons of Cup-O-Noodles and M&M packets available if you have the willingness to spend $2.50 for a cup, not a bowl or plate, of noodles. ||I reached out to the management about our stay and received no response. For the right price, this hotel is worth it even with the construction and oddities. We, however, did not pay anywhere near the...
