I will start by saying the room was pretty clean. That is always my #1 priority with a hotel/inn/b&b/etc. and they get most of their positives from me there.

After that, I had to go back to the office after the first key they gave me didn't work in the door at all. It was open, but we wanted to leave things in the room and explore the area (not to mention sleep in peace) so I sort of expected a working door lock. The second key sort of worked. I had to wiggle it for about 30 seconds to a couple minutes each time I wanted to use it as it wouldn't engage the lock. It seems the keys they have don't really match the door lock well. The door lock needs to be fixed.

It is unclear on the website, but the room that I ended up getting was a room underneath someone's house/apartment. There are three houses (that look identical) that appear to have full-time residents upstairs and two little rental rooms in the back/downstairs that share a porch. I think there are more rooms/suites that are located at/near the restaurant, but mine was in a set of houses a very short walk down the road from the restaurant (no problem here, just an FYI).

As for the room itself, that's where I had to knock off some points (even door problem aside). There's no AC, so you really need to crack a window in warm weather to keep the room cool. This may be a low-crime area (I didn't look into it), but it doesn't feel super comfortable having to open the sliding glass door (which is the only way into the room) and just leave a screen door closed which anybody could come into in the night (it didn't have a functional lock, not that a lock on a screen door is worth anything) or even leave a ground-level window open in a town you're not familiar with.

The bed was not comfortable. It was hard, and slanted in various places, so either side wanted to roll off. The pillows squished to nothing. The decorative pillows were stained. Doors all looked like they were bought from a seconds' store (misaligned panels, etc.). It basically felt like everything was set up as cheaply as humanly possible so that they could rent more rooms at 4-star hotel prices because there's a view of the bay. The walls had zero sound-dampening happening. I could hear the people in the next room talking then snoring and the person upstairs moving around regularly.

Also, these are not Ocean view. They look out at Johnson Bay and a bunch of little boats (sailing boats, fishing boats, etc.) moored when not in use. It's still a very nice view, but most of the room names are deck to sea or ocean view or similar and a quick look at the map here (especially the satellite view) will tell you which direction the rooms/buildings face. Again, just an FYI as I enjoyed the view (even though it was very foggy the day we stayed).

The shower had some big bottles of store-bought TRESemme shampoo and conditioner just loose, which feels more like showering at a family member or friend's house than an inn. Most places have gone to refillable wall-mounted pump setups these days, which I agree with much more than individual little bottles that add plastic waste, so I'm not opposed, but the implementation here was just something I haven't seen before.

There was a TV in the room, but no cable. It was a Vizio with a smart-tv app suite (and an internet connection) that had some free programming that allowed you to watch some old shows or movies they had. You could log into Netflix, but there were already 4 children's accounts logged in so I didn't mess with that. We were only here for one night and I didn't come to watch TV, so I wasn't upset about this, but watched an old movie to help settle down for sleeping and figured I'd share what the room offered for that experience. I also would have felt bad about it being loud the way sound travels in these rooms.

Overall it wasn't an awful place to spend one night, but I didn't get a great night's sleep due to the bed, the noise, and keeping my temperature regulated. I wouldn't look to...

As we have for many years my wife and I stayed at the Inn On The Wharf towards the end of August. We have stayed in the cannery suites and in the house suites and this year we were in the “Deck To Sea” suite in House 3. We have enjoyed our stays here even back when the cannery roof used to leak so we were surprised by this room. This is a very small room, one reviewer measured it at 12’ X 14’ and it has some issues that no room should present. First, there are no chairs; there is a very stained and low love seat couch, but no straight back chair or chair of any kind. And since there are no chairs there is no table. Well, there is a small table that serves as a TV stand. No overnight accommodations should exist that doesn’t have a chair. No chair and table means there is no place to compute, to eat, to read, or provide a horizontal surface on which to put things such as a glass or coffee cup. |Coffee – In our stays here we found that all the rooms we stayed in had Keurig coffee makers so we started bringing our own Keurig pods that we like. This room has an old style drip coffee maker. Additionally, it was up on top of the armoire.|In this very small “suite” is a king size bed. Does that make any sense? So you end up with a U-shaped path around the bed as the only place to move. A queen size bed is what should be here.|This room has other smaller problems that I consider minor irritations which would never be the subject of a review by me but since I am writing a review I’ll mention them. |There is no place to set a glass or cup while sitting on the deck and you will be sitting on the deck. The deck chairs have these plastic holders on their sides meant to provide a place but these are broken and/or hanging on by a thread.|The vanity and sink combination might be the smallest available so there is no place to put toiletries, etc.|The shower floor was deadly slippery. I showered with one hand on the grab bar.|There was no luggage rack. There was a small stand of some kind which was meant as a rack and we used this but two people usually means two sets of luggage.|I doubt that a contortionist could reach the toilet paper should you be seated.|We needed ice and we would normally walk over to the restaurant to get some but there was no ice bucket. So I went to the reservation clerk and told her there was no ice bucket. She said, “None of our rooms have ice buckets.” In the end she went off and got me an ice bucket.|The biggest negatives with this problem room could be fixed easily. One wall is taken up with an armoire and love seat. The armoire isn’t used in this short stay room and that love seat shouldn’t be in any room anywhere. In their place add 2 chairs and a small table which could go in the corner and add a luggage rack and small stand. Replace the king size bed with a queen size and small night stand. Or, remove the large TV that doesn’t get the Red Sox so there is no need for it anyway.|Yes, I disliked this room a lot but please don’t be put off by this review. This has always been a great place to stay and I anticipate that it will be that way in the future. Yes, there are new owners and they may still be working out issues but we will be staying with them going forward. We just will not be...

BED BUGS IN THE RUM RUNNER ROOM! Booked this place for our anniversary and, as we were settling in for bed, noticed bed bug nymphs crawling all over the pillows and from beneath the comforter. Immediately grabbed all of our belongings and called the front desk to report it. The owner arrived shortly thereafter with another staff member to inspect, confirming our suspicions. She indicated that she only bought the place last year, that the cottages are owned by a separate entity than the rest of the inn, and that this sort of thing happens since “people just bring these on their luggage.” She shared that she owns another operation in Missouri that has had an infestation and that the treatment is very difficult to take care of. She asked us what our plans were, and dumbfounded, we said we might end up staying in our car since finding accommodations on short notice this far out at 10pm would be challenging. She in turn asked us to keep her on call if we couldn’t find anything. Soon after calling around without success, we reached back out to ask if she could provide guidance on where to go. Unfortunately, we were not accommodated elsewhere as there did not appear to be any vacancy all the way through to Bangor and she did not offer us another place onsite. In the text chain that followed, the owner offered to strip the sheets/remake the bed and allow us to stay at a discount. We declined and indicated that we were expecting a full refund. Her response then consisted of implying that what all of us collectively confirmed to be bed bugs were not, in fact, bed bugs since the staff serving the building for years had never seen them there before, further adding that “insects are insects.” Rather than engage further, we cut our anniversary trip short and drove home four hours through the night. It should also be mentioned that the room had a faint malodor similar to raw sewage when we arrived that mostly dissipated after running the bathroom fan and that beneath the bed had not been cleaned or swept likely all season. I hope that this pattern of procurement of real estate assets in Downeast as just another investment in a portfolio by out-of-state interests does not continue down this path of neglect as it will irreparably harm the charm of places like Lubec. We were...

We loved our stay at the Inn. The room was clean and had beautiful views. The community kitchen was convenient for us to store some left overs when we went out to eat. The 1st night we arrived a little late (6:30pm) due to traffic. The woman working the lobby desk was kind enough to call us and make sure we weren't lost. When we got there we wanted to go eat in the restaurant. Unfortunately it was full. The 1st server was very apologetic and felt bad for us. Another server walked by and we asked if it would be possible to place a take out order. She damn near bit our heads off. Complaining and carrying on how they were short staffed and they didn't have this and they didn't have that. It was a Tuesday, not a weekend. She begrudgingly took our order and in a very nasty tone said, "It's going to be a while so don't expect it any time soon." So we just went back to our rooms because we felt like idiots after she did this in front of all of the customers sitting at the counter seats. We came back later and took our food back to our room. Thankfully every other time we went to eat there this particular server was not there. All of the other servers were very nice and professional.

The view is amazing, the rest is just mediocre at best. The room( Bayview) was much smaller than the suite next door. The descriptions on the website are poorly written at best and deliberately misleading at worst. All prices were off for the inn and the restaurant by at least 10% and when this was pointed out, the response was that it was a third party reservation system even though it is on their website. Our room was filthy. We were not able to have lunch at the wharf as we ordered and waited 45 minutes before we cancelled and left. The people who deal with the public, woman at desk extremely rude and wait staff were frustrated, need to understand they will generate more negative comments. The people we met at stores, on the street and while walking all were pleasant and hospitable. If we return to Lubec, it will not be at this place. Just to note, we tried to discuss our concerns but either the owners weren’t told or did not care to try to make things right. You have been warned.
