After a four-hour drive from Portland, Maine and a multi-day journey from Florida—with barely a real meal since Friday night—I arrived completely exhausted and starving. Unfortunately, what I hoped would be a comforting dinner turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. Welcome to Maine! I ordered the salmon and asked to substitute a side of soup, which I was more than willing to pay extra for. But when my food arrived, I was stunned. The salmon was served on a tiny saucer, and the bowl of soup was literally placed on top of it. The soup was cold, and the handle of the spoon was sticky. I had to ask the server to reheat the soup and replace the spoon—basic things that should never be overlooked. When I finally got around to trying the salmon, it was dry, crusty, and completely flavorless—not even a lemon wedge for garnish. I asked for one and gave it another try, added salt... nothing helped. After one more small bite, I gave up. I asked for a baked potato instead, and when it arrived, I handed the salmon back nearly untouched. The waitress, Hope, didn’t ask a single question—not “Was something wrong?” or “Can I get a manager?” No concern, no apology. Just silence and walked away. Please see the attached photo—does that look appetizing to you? It tasted just as bad as it looked. Cold, bland, with charred, inedible edges. That’s how my $35+ salmon dinner was presented. I was never asked how my food was. And when the bill came, I was still charged full price, with no acknowledgment of the baked potato (which I think became my side) or the cup of clam chowder I ordered. When I brought it up, Hope told me, “Just because you didn’t like the salmon doesn’t mean you don’t have to pay for it.” She also insisted that because she had made a special effort to substitute soup—even though it wasn’t a listed side—switching to a baked potato meant that was now my side. Her logic made no sense, and her attitude was cold and condescending. I was genuinely stunned. She didn't speak to anyone else like that but me. I honestly didn't say anything else but what I have stated here. Everyone at the table couldn't believe it. It's like she hated me. I understand people have rough days, but there was zero empathy or effort to make things right. After all that travel, hunger, and exhaustion, this meal—and the service—left me completely disheartened. Even if it were the only place open, I wouldn’t eat here again. Ever.

Heading to the absolute eastern most part of the United States and craving some delicious seafood? Make sure to fill up on gas, grab your wallet, and be prepared to drive down some tiny alleys for some of the best seafood around! The Fisherman's Wharf was absolutely packed when we got there, and for good reason! The six of us that went along were looking to try a bit of everything. Now, the tables were a bit tacky/sticky, but that could have been from the open air and a bit of humidity. It's a seat yourself environment with tables inside and out, with enough capacity for about 50 people. Not huge, but cozy. During these times of COVID, you're welcome to wear a mask, but many did not. The menu is brief, with only two pages packed about medium with the offerings. The prices were a bit middle to high, but the food did impress. I enjoyed the fish and chips ($22). The fish was absolutely fresh, plied apart wonderfully, and the tartar sauce tasted homemade and was delightful! Hand-breaded and pretty large (half dinner plate). The chips were regular fries, but good. Others in our party enjoyed the amazing Lobster Dinner which seemed like a lot of food, including corn on the cob, a potato side, and tons of butter. The lobster was of decent size. KidMDK had the burger (to test it) and gave it an 8 out of 10, especially good for a seafood joint. Others enjoyed a haddock burger, the Lobster stew, and Wharf salad. Everything was great and dandy. The atmosphere was cozy and the wait staff was on the ball. Great attitudes and everything! The food was rather prompt even while they were at capacity with almost all seats filled. A great adventure! Stunning views of the water and Canada. If you're considering driving that way, I highly-recommend stopping in to grab a bite! (Just remember the gas and wallet!)

The good: The views here are likely the best in Lubec, just about every table has a great one and the outside tables can't be beat if the weather is good. The food is really good. The bad: If you order the lobster dinner....pack your patience, as this is a very popular item and seemingly they have don't have a ton of capacity for throughput and it takes a LONG time. Tested this twice. The rest of the food seems to come out at normal speed. Menu prices on the website are very out of date and much higher in reality. The ugly: Prepare to walk in, find a line, but have no clue what to do with it, or if there is no line, prepare to stand there and be ignored. Do I go in? Do I wait here? Some walked around the line and went to the bar...did they cut in front of me or did they have a reservation? Some went to the patio. Seemingly no system (although I am sure there is), but being new in town means you don't know and no one talks to you when you enter. It's the strangest thing as this is the VERY basics of a restaurant. Set the expectations and let me know how long I have to wait, so I can decide to stay, or go somewhere else. Once seated the older lady who waited on us, COULD NOT HAVE CARED LESS about us. Seemingly if you aren't local, you don't rate a smile, or any words other than "ready" and then an abrupt walking away after ordering. Again - this wasn't just us - her attitude was very different from people she clearly knew versus randos. Flies. The bar is just bombarded with by my count, 15 flies. At least the ones I could see. Again ...two visits, a week and half apart, same outcome so that appears to be ops normal. Order cocktails knowing your glassware has VERY likely had flies on it. Fortunately we sat near the bar and saw this so we knew better.

If you are planning a trip to Lubec eat before you go or bring your own food. This terrible restaurant was the only one open in town.

Location: Great.

Wait staff: Overwhelmed and untrained.

Upon entering we were directed to sit anywhere. We chose a table for 2 near the window and near the counter. Every table was occupied by the time we sat down. One waitress directed another waitress about which tables they should each take care of. We waited at least 20 minutes for a menu and for someone to take our drink order. We ordered a soda and a coffee. We were told that the restaurant was out of chowder, clams, corn, and crab cakes. We waited another 15 minutes for someone to take our food order. We ordered the scallops and the lobster roll. The menu said that we could get the scallops fried or seared, we chose seared. As we wailed we sipped on our drinks, the coffee tasted like brown water. We waited and waited and waited as we watched the cooks go out for a cigarette break 3 times. During our wait I began to smell a strange smell coming out of the kitchen. It had the smell of a dirty mop and of dirty mop water. After about 30 minutes we were told we could only get the scallops fried. We agreed to take the scallops fried, even though I think that limited choice indicated the scallops are not cooked to order and are either frozen or pre breaded. Then we waited and waited and waited. We watched 2 overwhelmed waitresses try to take care of the customers while we, again, watched the cooks leave the kitchen for a cigarette break. The smell from the kitchen, the extended waiting, and the behavior of the cooks led us to leave the restaurant without eating our food. We paid for our drinks and left.

I really felt bad for the waitress who was trying to take care of us. She seemed new and completely overwhelmed. The fault of this terrible restaurant lies with the owner, management, and kitchen staff. This was the only restaurant open in town so it feels like you're trapped once...

I know it's hard for businesses to get people to apply and actually do work, and that leaves more work for the rest, but you have to do your best. It was crowded and there were only two women working the tables, doing their best to ignore customers walking in. As we walked in, I saw a sign showing their hours, but nothing about being seated by a hostess, or finding our own table. I stood there for several minutes and finally just had to interject a question as to whether we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. One of the women responded sharply that we are supposed to wait to be seated like the sign says. Turns out the sign was turned where that information was towards the wall and could not be seen without physically moving the sign. We waited for several minutes before the same woman finally led us to a table.(the same one we sat at before we were told to wait for the hostess to seat us.) No hostess, two waitresses who were apparently tired and done with trying to remain professional for the customers. We did order food. Between the two of us, we had a salad, crab cake, and the fish and chips meal. The food was pretty good and the hot items were hot. Service wasn't bad as far as time to get the food. But after sitting at the table with empty plates, empty glasses, and a credit card in hand for about ten minutes,( I saw one waitress look at the card in my hand and she just walked off), I still had to walk up to the register to pay for the meal. I was never asked whether I wanted desert, or anything more to drink. I did ask if they had dessert and was told they do and she listed off several items as she ran my card, never realizing that I might have ordered something if I had been given the opportunity. She acted liked she was pissed at us for coming into the place. I never got her name, little blonde cranky one though. Save yourself the disappointment and find somewhere...
