We greatly enjoyed spending the weekend at the Hilton Garden Inn/Mercer University in order to attend the Bat Mitzvah of family friends at a nearby synagogue with a 1.7 mile/37 minute walk. This hotel is beautiful, clean, comfortable, conveniently located with free parking, situated on the edge of the beautiful and charming Mercer University campus, and the hotel staff was very cheerful, professional and helpful in every way. Mr. Carlos Robinson at the front desk was especially friendly and very helpful making sure we were able to have a Shabbat friendly stay. Kenya at the hotel restaurant and bar was also welcoming, and all the other staff were warm, professional and helpful. It's a beautiful place and they have a great team of people there.
Our walks to and from the local synagogue Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon was beautiful. The hotel is located on Stadium drive and it is just a 12 minute/.5 mile walk up the tree lined Stadium Drive to Mercer Village with Z Beans Cafe and neighborhood restaurants and shops. Beautiful and historic Tatnall Square Park is located just past Mercer Village between Adams and College Streets, and across the street from Mercer University. The gorgeous fountain in the center of the park is a definite must-see. If you walk about ten minutes down College Street (away from Mercer University and Tatnall Square Park) and turn right on Hardeman Avenue toward downtown you will also see some lovely shops and the famous H&H Restaurant the traditional southern food restaurant where the Allman Brothers Band frequently ate. I highly recommend stopping in to enjoy Bear's Books shop, Rabbit Hole art & gifts shop, and H&H Restaurant to see all of the music memorabilia there and the BEAUTIFUL Allman Brothers/H&H mural on the entire outside of H&H where there is free parking for patrons. The Douglass Theatre in downtown Macon is also a gorgeous, historic theatre with lots of interesting films and other events on their calendar.
Macon, GA has so much music history, interesting architecture and a very walkable downtown full of beautiful shops, brew pubs and restaurants. If you have time visit Ocmulgee Mounds & Museum for free and save a moment to savor a sunset view of downtown Macon with a glass of wine/beer on Hotel 45's rooftop bar located on the corner of Cotton Avenue and First Street. The Hilton Garden Inn/Mercer University is a great and affordable place to stay anytime you want to treat yourself and your family and friends to a weekend...
