I am very dissatisfied my stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton Mahwah. The room was not dusted properly and several areas including table and drawer tops were dusty or dirty with oily fingerprints. In addition, we found cobweb in one of two rooms and had to call the front desk to have someone to come over and remove it. Curtains, carpets, and couches have minor stains and smelled funky; They weren't washed, vacuumed or cleaned regularly. That is not the only problem. When one of my guests were about to use one of two bathrooms in the suite, we found fecal matter in the toilet bowl. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. We also found out that the toilet's flushing is very weak. These two problems were supposed to be fixed PRIOR TO my check-in. We called the front desk to alert this and somebody left a plunger outside. This makes sense if I or one of my guests were making bowl movements and somehow clogged the toilet bowl, but we're talking about somebody's feces!! My brother fixed the toilet with the plunger as we got five people in the suite and need two baths. Instead of having a relaxing weekend together as a family, my brother fixed a hotel room's toilet. Very depressing! Found more plungers at other suites' door too. The plumbing problem seems to be common here. Finally, my family and I found that the hotel's electrical wiring is bad in the kitchen area (at least). The electrical stove barely heats up to boil water in a pot. I brought an electric pot to use it in the suit to boil water just in case. It took much longer for it to boil water than when it was used in my house. Maybe because they have many long term residents who use more electricity? The hotel needs an electrician to investigate this issue. The dining and common area (not the front desk) is not cleaned well and I saw trash left on the floor and/or tables. Instead of offering complimentary breakfast (food is just OK for a 3-star hotel), hire specialists to fix problems!! Three of my family members have chronic medical problems with weak immune system. I just hope we don't get sick. It's the worst 3 star hotel we've...
Read moreAfter my recent stay Homewood Suites Hilton MahwahI am feeling completely unsafe to stay in a location or hotel chain that is so poorly handled by the staff and will advice others to be careful so they don't have similar scary experiences.
When I arrived in the hotel on the morning of June 1st at 6.45 am the lady at the front desk told me that she had no reservation by my name...I then provided her with my reservation number and she pulled up the record and printed it for me. She showed me that the reservation name was totally different even though it was attached to my home address, phone number, reservation and Hilton HHonors#and I was very surprised to see this. She was unsure of what was going on and said it may be as I was check in the next morning instead of the night before. Really? She finally gave me a key to a room and when I went upstairs and put my key in and opened the door it could not be opened completely as it was latched from inside and there was someone in that room. I cannot believe that I was about to step into a room where someone was staying and wouldn't have even known about it had the latch not been there. This is a complete threat to my safety and I cannot even imagine what might have happened had the latch not been there! When I ran down to the front desk the lady did not even apologize and said there is something funky with the reservation. She finally gave me a key to another room. I was getting late for work so decided to speak to a manager that evening when I got back.
In the evening when I spoke to the manager he was completely casual about it and said we took care of the issue and did not at all feel the need to apologize for the mess up and completely dismissed it. I am terribly frustrated with the overall experience with #Hilton and may never plan to stay at one again. Poor customer service and worst...
Read moreUPDATE: While originally, I gave this hotel five stars, I'm bringing it down to one star. After I left the hotel, I realized I had left an item in the room. When I called, I was told that they didn't have it. I went shopping online to replace it and found MY item for sale, for pickup in the area (it was not a similar item - it was my item) on eBay. The hotel manager wasn't concerned that one of their employees seemed to be selling items 'found' in the hotel (they said they have a lost and found policy and employees are supposed to turn those items in to management). The eBay account this was being sold on was in Rockland County (which is right next to Bergen County) and the hotel's response was they they would reimburse me for the item (and they did), but that they asked the staff and none of them knew anything about it - clearly they are not concerned about their employees selling items out of hotel rooms. It's too bad, too, because the location was great and the original review still stands - it's just that I can't trust that items won't be taken from my room and resold.
This hotel is tucked away off Route 17 in Mahwah, NJ. It's just far enough off the highway to not have highway noise. It's a dog friendly hotel AND it's super clean. There was no evidence of other dogs (no smells, fur, etc.) left in my room or in the hallways/lobbies. The staff was attentive, kind, and helpful. There's a really nice courtyard to sit in and a pool, fitness center and laundry - all were kept so clean and tidy. Highly recommend this property if you need a dog friendly stay in...
