North Country Inn & Suites — Hotel in Mandan

I am 2 years overdue on this review. It was early June 2019 and I was halfway through my twice-annual drive between my parents house in Minneapolis and my college town in Bozeman before my timing belt blew an hour east of Bismarck. While waiting for what was the only available tow truck in the middle 3rd of North Dakota I realized I needed a place to stay at the last minute, and I settled on this motel as it was closest to the local Subaru dealer. I called and explained my situation to the owner and he agreed to stay open a half-hour late to allow me time to check-in. In addition to this, he let me stay on a night-by-night basis knowing that I was unsure of how long the repairs would take AND discounted each night. I was provided with a clean room, friendly staff and some food and water at check-in. Even the employees at the Subaru dealer had good things to say. Thank you North Country Inn, you made my unintended stay in Mandan more comfortable. I would HIGHLY recommend this motel for the hospitality...

When I first got there the manager was surprised that I had a whole week reserved. He said that he would figure it out. I spoke with him the evening after I arrived to see if he would mind if I found someplace else for the weekend since that was the time that seemed to be a problem. He said OK. After I spent the first night, I decided that I would really like to move but because I was leaving at 4:30 am and didn't return until after midnight, I told him that I would like to move out after 2 nights. The room smelled bad like an old apartment. The carpet was stained. The hairdryer would constantly overheat. The soap was cheap....it wouldn't suds up no matter how much I tried. One of the reasons I wanted to stay there was because breakfast was listed. He said they weren't doing breakfast because of Covid. He did say that he could get me cereal and fruit if I really wanted. Stayed here once before and had a pleasant stay but was curious to see how it would be....Had several rooms and stayed for several days so we had an assortment of room types. Some rooms are bigger than others! Parking lot is rather small but this place is very clean and quiet!!! This place is quaint and very homey-so refreshing! Have extended cable and flat screen TVs ...new a/c units but some aren't working very well! The managers name is G.M. And he's very sweet. I had a "Honeymoon Suite" and it was quite large and had a big jacuzzi tub-I did not use it but it looks cool! Big bathroom and good lighting. Some artificial trees in here to set the mood I guess! This place is nice, no pool but if you want a clean comfortable place in a good location...
