2 day weekend stay for what was supposed to be an early birthday weekend because I was not going to be able to take a break during the actual birthday. Booked 2 nights through Amex FHR who noted this as well as a room location preference on the reservation when booked.
Early check in not honored as we had hoped it would via FHR but it is a busy place on the beach. Second stop desk staff, ours was not very engaging or friendly and seemed to lack knowledge of FHR and did not recognize my Titanium Status. Didn't explain anything about what we would be entitled to in booking through FHR(we know because we have used it numerous times in my 28 years with Amex) or anything really about the property like where things are, how we would get towels or in and out of the parking lot(needed cards which we were not given until we asked for them after talking to another staff member) we also found out from a bellman about the newer side of the property called Sirene which was adults only. Swing and a miss on that upgrade JW Marco Island. Actually I believe it was booked solid with a group in house which what honestly appeared to be their priority, not the loyal Bonvoy customer who stays an average of 90-100 nights per year within the brand all over the globe. No sweat, I Get it, not!
Room we booked was called a Terrace Suite, we thought it would include all the amenities and normal items you would expect from a room that cost upwards of $1700.00 per night. Yes you read that right. This is aside from resort fee, parking and anything else you consume on property. Too much for a robe and slippers for us to be in the room that we apparently waited for a manager to check over first before we could get the keys(as we were told by Mr. Personality @check in). Room was nice and spacious as expected, super comfy bed and not bad just a bit dated and lacking like I said robes, slippers, wine opener and glasses(it had a wet bar and wine fridge) we brought in some wine from outside the property. We found that we were asking for things constantly like extra water(no lounge on property) extra coffee and cups etc....I find this offensive at this level of Bonvoy property and at this price point. More of a swing and a miss in my experience.
Sushi was outstanding and service was excellent in this food/beverage outlet. Pools nice, beach stellar, gym decent but quite small for a property this size, shops and stores very nice and you can charge to your room, self serve laundry on site in the case you needed it.
Breakfast was included with our visit, Food in this outlet was nice, varied, fresh and tasty overall. Seems to be confusion as to what package goes with which guests so more staff training and narrow down what you offer may help.
Our stay was weak and very disappointing overall. If it were a $50-100 per night property maybe, just maybe passable. This is not that, it is Bonvoy's higher tier property(only St Regis and Ritz really above it). Value for what we got feels like we got robbed with our eye's wide open several times at once.
I had asked for the hotel managers email with hopes of sharing some feedback. I received a call from the Executive Assistant a few days post stay. I had a lot to say and wasn't really prepared as I had not expected anyone to actually reach out. Kudos for trying but too little too late. Thank you for offering to "make it right" if we come back but we took a pass.
A customer needs to feel welcomed naturally, not by obligation. There were so many opportunities during our stay to get it dialed in and it was missed. A birthday, second highest level of status within the brand you have on your properties faƧade. A lot of work needs to be done to have that remain in my opinion. I did share this with both Amex and Bonvoy and intend to share with the world. You all need to know because I too read all the Tripadvisor glowing reviews so I thought I was in for a treat and only got tricked.
I wish you well JW Marco Island, hope you get it all sorted out for future...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a former JW Marriott employee of JW Minneapolis/Mall of America, I had very high expectations and a lot of excitement of our stay at JW Marco. Sadly, we were extremely disappointed. This JW is embarrassing to the luxury JW name. I hate to write this, because I truly love the Marriott brand, especially JW.
Positive first. The physical location is beach side. Negative of this though, the two main buildings of rooms run vertically of the gulf, so you don't get a direct view of the gulf in the majority of the rooms unless you go out to your balcony and set yourself up at a diagonal to get an obstructed view. The rooms themselves, at least ours, is extremely outdated. The old brown carpet is worn out and just feels dirty, bring slippers. Armchair old and gross, paint is chipped and warped. Really old Florida hotel feel, definitely not luxury.
Housekeeping. Don't expect to get it. We were asked at check in if we'd like morning or afternoon cleaning. We requested afternoon, and both days we left our room before 11am and made sure the privacy sign was not at the door. The first day we came back around 3pm and no housekeeping. We called and requested they come as we were stepping out again. They did come after requesting, thank you, but they dont sweep the floors. I had my eye on a nasty toenail in the corner of the bathroom (not one of ours) hoping it would get cleaned up, spoiler alert, it was there our entire stay. Day 2 we spent the majority of the day out of the room, and even when we went back to our room for a couple of hours at 3pm (still no housekeeping) we were sure to not have the privacy sign up and waited for them to come. We would've stepped out for service. They never came.
Since we didn't get housekeeping we were out of washcloths. We left for dinner at 8pm and before leaving we requested towels at least be brought up. Back from dinner a little after 10pm, no towels. They claimed we had privacy sign on door, we did not. Called again for towels at 10. Waited until 1045, nothing. Walked down to front desk to get them myself. Was told the manager was now aware and they would be right up. They finally arrived at 1145pm.
Dining. The breakfast buffet if wanting more than just "cold stuff" is $35 per person. For nothing more than regular breakfast food, i would say not worth it. With tip, just shy of $100 for breakfast for 2 ppl. Kane's Tiki was delicious, the best food we ate while here. Highly recommend the coconut shrimp at this one. Quinns on the beach was friday night dinner. Hostess had no idea what was going on, i felt bad for her, she was so young and having to deal with older ppl yelling at her. The 1/2 spiny lobster tail was literally only 3 small bites of food. The calamari breading didn't even stick to the calamari. However, the grouper sandwich was fantastic. Tesoro was not good. The tables overlooking the gulf had the seating so low compared to the table it makes you feel like a child. None of the weird tables looked comfortable enough to eat dinner at honestly. The wagyu filet tasted nothing like wagyu, was extremely chewy and hard to cut. The lobster pasta was tasty. Ario was okay. We ordered 2 ribeyes, server tried to convince us to get ny strip, which we both politely declined. He still ordered us ny strips, and this was confirmed by checking our bill. The steak was delicious, just weird he didn't bring us what we ordered. French onion was a little to sweet.
Cafe next to the gift shop needs more employees, especially during peak season. Each time we went we were 4th in line and patiently waited around 15 min each time to order and get coffee.
Not a luxury hotel. Not worth paying more than 300$ per night. We stayed here with rates at $1000 per night for a basic room. We unfortunately regret choosing this location. Thankfully, I have a wonderful love of my life and we were able to make the best of each others company and just laugh at how terrible the service had been and the poor quality...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and extended family stayed here at the beginning of November. Leaving this review late because I forgot to do it! Iāll start by saying I love Marriott . I love all things Marriott! However, Iāve stayed at all the different types of Marriotts all the way up to the Ritz Carlton down to a courtyard, and found this JW Marriott to be mediocre. It saddens me to write this because I have been to this resort multiple times and this time was just subpar. For the price you pay and the expectation level they set, it just fell short. Our family had three total rooms, two of which were in the lanai suites on the ocean, and one of which was in the adult only tower. The two rooms in the lanai suites were great for families. Very spacious, But if you need to separate children for bedtime, it can get complicated. Thereās a swinging wicker chair in each room, one of the rooms did not have an anchor on the bottom so that was pretty dangerous and we had to reach out to the front desk to remedy that situation.
It felt like we visited in the off seasonā¦multiple restaurants had āissuesā and were down and the pizza Italian was under construction. Lots of hit or miss experiences. We did very expensive massages and the sauna was down, so didnāt get to experience their plunge, hot tub, sauna recommendation. Therapist did great though!
I had to request housekeeping three times on my second day after noticing they didnāt clean the first day. And I have kids so just needed a sweeper thatās all!
Housekeeping was pretty inconsistent, though. Only a few times would they even mop the floors, and there was one time they didnāt even take out the trash. I had to do a lot of that on my own throughout the trip, which I donāt mind because Iām used to it, but I was looking forward to a little bit of a break!
My BIGGEST complaint for the trip is specific to those who are considering staying in the ocean view lanai suites that face the restaurant. This resort is LARGE and hosts TONS of events and more than one in a day most days. Staying in the lanai suites, we had direct access to the walkway in which event planners would be setting up and tearing down all day and all night. They would be pushing large metal carts of food and trays up and down the small cobblestone walkway. So all day long we were hearing metal carts, clinging, and clanking around. We would even be out on the patio in the evenings, having conversation with our family and Iāll have to stop speaking for a minute because we couldnāt hear each other over the metal carts. It wasnāt very relaxing to hear that all day long. Another thing I found pretty interesting is that they keep the music at the pool area going all night long even until about 3 AM and itās actually pretty loud. So there wasnāt really a time. We were sitting on our patio and had some nice quiet ocean waves to listen to. Maybe you cant hear that in a balcony room, but not these first and second floor suites.
The food was middle of the road, a few of the restaurants were great while others were lacking. The steakhouse was all right, we did a birthday celebration there half of the table loved their food and the other half were not impressed. The restaurant by the beach and the serene tower was OK. The tiki bar and restaurant was GOOD. The sushi place is GREAT. The breakfast was okay. Game room was fun and had good appetizers.
Aside from what all felt like A lot of negativity from me, we love this resort mainly for its beach! The beach is beautiful in Marco Island and I definitely recommend people give it a try, however, I would make sure that everything is functioning and in tiptop shape and call prior to booking at this...
