I have not enjoyed my stay here. The provided beds, couches and chairs are the most uncomfortable ever. I can't sleep in the bed, my back side aches if I sit on the couch. The lawn-chair-police will not let you have more than your allotted chairs. Each unit says "6 people" but you get 4 chairs. We actually got scolded by an employee for moving a chair from the common area (they have dozens chained up under the building). We called management who told us no more chairs (hospitality focused places never tell you no, but find a solution). Instead, if your group so wants to sit together you must go sit together in the common area, which in a pandemic seems like a poor practice. Our unit wasn't the cleanest. Mold in the showers, dust on lights, etc. You can tell these units never get deep cleaned. I used a wipe on the couch and it came back black. I doubt the cushion covers are washed between guests, even during the pandemic. The unit we booked is out of commission because the entire building is not fit for occupancy due to damage to the sea wall. We got moved to another unit. They have a private beach, but the water was too rough the entire time we were here to swim or snorkel. The good: The view is great. We sat on the patio and watched whales playing and often if we stand at the wall, we can watch turtles come and go. Frequently the turtles come sleep on the beach here. There are BBQ s in the common area. Nobody told us about the sign up list, and one guest got angry that we weren't signed up. There was no communication about this. Otter guest were great about just taking turns. I slept on a lounge chair on the deck every night. It was incredible. Two nights had storms and I watched them pass by and lightning hit the island across from us. Overall all, this isn't a place I would stay again. I really like to be comfortable and this place just didn't allow that.
Additionally we have cockroaches in the condo. ...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We stayed at A8, which was oceanfront. I do have a few items that need to be addressed though. The powered awning did not work without me troubleshooting why the awning would not deploy. I ended up determining that the breaker on the GFCI was tripped, after I found where the power was supplied from, I fixed the problem quickly. The maintenance staff was very busy with AC and other calls, so instead of waiting for them and taking them away from more pressing issues, I simply did it on my own. I have a feeling that the powered awning hadn't worked for some time before I reset the breaker. Our WiFi and TV upstairs both had to be replugged in, as neither worked upon our arrival. Even after plugging the main BR tv back in, it would turn on, but no volume would work, and you couldn't change the channel. I attempted to use different tv remotes from around the condo, and this particular tv just wouldn't respond. There were no buttons except for a power button on the TV, which was the only way it turned on. I suspect the last people that rented the condo wanted to be "unplugged", which I appreciate, to an extent. I however had to check in with work visa WiFi and work remotely using WiFi, so I needed to fix that. The wifi router simply needed to be plugged in, and it worked well after that. The main level screen door was stubborn and probably needed new rollers. Also, for over $400 a night, the AC should be included. AC is a $25 per day add on. The bedrooms, especially the non oceanfront back BR really retains the heat. Luckily, there were several fans available. The herb garden and citrus were amazing, and very appreciated. The turtles right below our condo every day were also awesome. Plan on grilling at one of the many grills on the property. The semi private beach is also very nice. You can actually get in some good snorkeling right...
Read moreWe’ve stayed at Kahana Sunset 4-5 times over the past 25 years. In February 2024, we stayed in unit A-5. The best part of this unit was its location - literally just steps away from the ocean. We had wonderful views of Malakai and Lanai from both of our lanais.||That being said, this unit, and all of the Kahana Sunset condominiums are in a state of accelerating decline. The ocean has eroded away most of the beach here and all of the condos in Unit F have had to be closed because of this erosion. These units most likely will not be repaired and face demolition in the very near future.||Specifically, our unit A-5 was an extreme disappointment. It wreaked of mildew and had a strong musty smell the entire two weeks of our stay. The condo was very dirty and it was obvious that floors, wood trims, cabinets, and furniture had not been cleaned and maintained for many months. The ceiling in the entryway was stained and had mold growing due to a water leak that was tied to a 50-year old toilet that needed replacement (which was done midway through our stay). In addition, the air conditioner on the first floor was so loud that you couldn’t hear the television. That too, required us to request getting it fixed about midway through our stay. These issues should have been addressed a long time ago and not left to fester until guests finally brought up the need for repairs.||One of the handymen who was at the unit mentioned that the owner of A-5 also owned four other units at Kahana Sunset. It was clear to us that this owner is milking out the remaining life this place has left and isn’t interested in keeping it good condition for guests who stay here.||Despite the fond memories formed over the years we have for Kahana Sunset, we will be booking our next stay in Maui at...
