Food: The beans were gross and acidic, like some bad premade beans, but my wife thought they were OK. The potato salad was gross and bland, like it also came out of a package The rice was bland but made well in a rice cooker, but its pretty hard to screw that up. The chicken is literally Costco chicken. The King Cut pot roast was nearly flavorless, had absolutely no salt, and tasted like it was made using a generic flavor packet from the supermarket, much like my very first attempt at making pot roast when I was 13. The pot roast had a single piece of onion, and a siNGle piece of celery; it doesn't even qualify as pot roast, it was a square hunk of mediocre beef slathered in ready-to-eat instant gravy.
Atmosphere: no music, dingy little place. I thought it was a good sign because most delicious hole-in-the-wall places present themselves this way, but Mamas lacked the quality in food to back up the lack of atmosphere.
Service: She sounded confused when we were talking to her, but when another customer walked in she was super talkative.
I feel bad posting a negative review like this, but honestly it was just not good and was really disappointing, especially considering it...
Read moreIf you're looking to get your grub on this is it. The first thing you'll notice is that it's full of local workers eating in and getting take out, always a good sign. We got our food and sat outside on tables meant for the strip mall patrons. The food is good, really good. My wife got the rotisserie chicken sandwich with a caesar salad side. It was delicious with cheese and cucumber. My boys split the chicken katsu plate and they couldn't finish it. The katsu was the best we've had on the island. I had the brisket plate. It was good but I should have told them to keep the barbeque sauce on the side. It was also all chopped and I prefer sliced brisket. The rice and mac salad sides were good. Overall I'm rating this place high because of the quantity and quality of food for the price. You can't really find a 'bargain' in Maui but this is close. If you're hungry for a filling...
Read moreI so wanted to like this place. My wife does a great country-style rib that she boils, but she includes some vinegar and spices. You could eat them without sauce but we toss them on the grill with a homemade sauce and get a char and glaze on them. They are delicious. So I had no qualms that they boiled their ribs.
These ribs are not that. They are boiled to death (that's when the meat falls off the bone) and in evidently nothing more than water. Then stuck in a warming tray until served (clearly no char or grill marks) with what tasted like a store bought sauce. They are barely edible smothered in the sauce.
As others have said the macaroni is flavorless. Even a little salt and pepper would help it. I've had better from Safeway's deli.
I asked a local if they had ever eaten there. His response said it all "Back in the day before the current owners when...
