I don't usually write hotel reviews, but this one just got to me in a bad way. We booked a two night stay in June as a place to stay while we visited Burgdorf Hot Springs. We have stayed in McCall at an Air BNB in the past, however, with it just being two of us and only two nights, we thought we'd give Super 8 a try.

When we arrived, the hotel looked a little less curb appealing than the others we had passed on the way there. Grass was mowed, but graveled areas were pretty overgrown with weeds and the flower pots were either empty or had some fake amazon flowers in them. There were A LOT of construction/comtractor vehicles in the parking lot (I assume they too were guests) as you never saw any inside working on the hotel.

Upon check in, the front desk clerk was helpful and pleasant. When we got to our room (125) we noticed no coffee maker and that the heat/ AC unit was unplugged from the wall. We asked the desk clerk if the cleaners forgot to plug in the unit, or if it was broke? She said it was broken, and offered to comp us $25 per night, or move us to another room. We opted for a different room. We were moved to room 131.

While it did have a functioning heat/AC and little coffee maker, the carpet was pretty stretched (wavy appearance) and actually felt dirty. You would catch a toe on the waves and trip if you were not careful. And by dirty, it was not in a "needs to be vacuumed dirty, but like a serious layer of something on it you could feel with your bare feet (needless to say, i did not go barefoot after that).

The bathtub had a broken piece/metal cover below the spout, (in the wall of the tub) that would literally fall into the tub when you turned the shower on and expose a gaping hole. The shower head would spray water out the back of the head, hit the wall and then cascade down the wall right into the hole in the tub, and I assume the water would run under the tub, and into the subfloor. We tried to put the metal piece back in, but it wouldn't stay. We thought of mentioning it to the desk clerk, but did not want to move rooms, again, and wondered what the functionality of that room would be. We made due and did leave a note about it on the green comment card in the room.

The hot tub had a sign on it that said out of order, but was hot and completely stocked with towels? The restroom near the breakfast area had a sign that said out of order, yet we saw people using it? Part of the lobby was walled off with plastic for repairs from water damage, and the roof had large sections with plastic tarps on it.

The positives out of this stay?

  1. Convenient location.
  2. It was quiet here.
  3. Our check-in desk clerk was kind and helpful. (I can't remember her name, but her name was unique and I believe it started with an S). This review is not in any way a negative on her, because her help and attitude was the only reason we didn't just leave).

I certainly hope this hotel gets it's maintenance boots on and addresses the issues. I am certain our room was not the only room here to have had complaints, and we are not the only ones to wonder where the attention to quality and safety went at the corporate level. Someone is not doing their job here as far as the upkeep and maintenance and it shows.

Unless this place gets a major renovation, we won't be...

The Super 8 in McCall has EXCELLENT customer service!! Some of the best customer service I've experienced while staying at a hotel/motel, and my husband and I travel pretty often. It was a busy weekend with what was supposed to be the Winter Festival Weekend, no thanks to COVID :-( but we still got treated as if we were the only guest there. We called and asked if we could check in early since we arrived in town early, and they were more than happy, with no extra charge. When we arrived, my mom's room had a clogged sink, but they addressed it immediately, and they also left us a note apologizing for the inconveinance and a box of Sour Patch Kids thanking us for not being sour. :-D It was such a sweet find when we got back from playing in the snow! Other reviews say it was noisy, but we didn't hear a thing, and, like I mentioned, it was a busy weekend for them. The continental breakfast was good, comprised of waffles, bagels, yogurts, cereal. It was a bummer they didn't have fresh fruit, but if that was the biggest problem, we would have been good. LoL. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that the rooms thermostat was super finicky. It was SO HOT in both my Mom's room, and our room, and we couldnt get it evened out. We even had it down to 60 degrees to try and cool down the room. Luckily, our bed was next to a window, so I opened the window. My Mom and the kids in that room weren't as lucky. They were super hot that night. That would be my only recommendation if you like sleeping in cooler temps, request a room with a window next to the bed. My kids who like sleeping warm didn't mind, lol. But, good rooms, good prices for the McCall area, and wonderful customer service. Thanks Alex, and staff for a...

I booked a stay at Motel 8 in McCall on Sat, Oct 5, at 12:46 PM for the same day after seeing a hot tub photo that looked like there was a pool. About two hours later, we realized there was no pool and called the hotel at 208-634-4637 to cancel. Suzanne was completely understanding and compassionate over the phone and assured us we wouldn’t be charged, understanding we booked it specifically for a pool for our kids. When we called customer care shortly after within minutes to confirm the reservation was showing canceled, they confirmed that if the hotel approved the refund request, a refund would go through. We canceled and rebooked at a different hotel with a pool. Upon arriving in McCall, we visited Motel 8 again in person to confirm the cancellation and were reassured we would not be charged. ||We never stayed or used the service, canceling the same-day reservation within 2-3 hours of booking, yet we were still charged.||Today, I received an email saying the hotel denied the refund request, despite being told it was okay to cancel. The customer care team mentioned no refunds after 10 AM in the email response, yet our booking was made after 10 AM that same day. Now I’m disputing the charge with my credit card, though it may not succeed. It's disheartening that something we were assured was penalty-free has turned into...

This Super 8 fell below expectation, especially given the steep price. I get it. McCall is out there and it’s a hot vacation spot, but to stay here is absolutely not worth ~$170 per night. If you’re only here for a special event, maybe that’s not a big deal, but otherwise it seemed unreasonable. The staff members were very friendly, I’ll give them that. The room was meh. The bed had four small, square pillows, not ones you’d expect for a bed. The A/C was useless. It’s 90 degrees out and you put the A/C on the coldest setting, with high fan speed. What happens? It blows cool air for about 5 minutes, then shuts off for 10 minutes. It went back on for 5 and off again for 10, repeating the cycle. The room never had an opportunity to properly cool down. The hot tub was “out of order” and breakfast in the morning was lackluster. They couldn’t manage to put one piece of fruit out? Not even an apple or banana? It was 6:30 AM, so I know for a fact that they did not run out. I was going hiking and it would have been nice to have a quick, healthy, light breakfast. You’re much better off supporting a locally run inn/motel nearby. I travel and stay at a lot of Wyndham properties, including all kinds of Super 8 locations, but this one fell below expectation. In fact, I think it’s the most expensive Super 8 I’ve encountered.

The customer service was excellent and the rooms were very clean and well decorated. Unfortunately we had several problems on our short stay. We had to turn the water to the sink on at the valve under the sink as the water supply was turned off. The outlet to the TV and satellite/cable did not work and there was no remote to operate either one in the room. Most importantly the water supply line from the wall to the toilet was non-existent meaning we had to use the restrooms down the hall by the hot tub or use the garbage can to fill the tank to get the toilet to flush. As the front desk mentioned the hotel was fully booked and we checked in late and just got our small kids to bed we didn't notify staff until the next morning. They were responsive but not much they could do. It was just a pit stop on our road trip but it was still a frustrating experience. We will look for alternate accommodations the next time we are in McCall.

We've stayed here 10 or more times over the last 4 years and it has always been a pleasant and consistently great stay every time. They have a decent breakfast. It's hard to beat fresh crispy waffles and eggs. It would be nice to see some breakfast meat of some kind. Still, I won't hate. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a lot of thought put into the simple things and amenities. These little things(extra soaps, lotions, towels, coffee, micrwave, fridge, usb and AC plugins, lots of trash bins, etc.) are what most hotels miss on here and there one thing or the other and they really add a lot of extra value. HUGE shout out to Suzie. What a fantastic hostess. Cheers!
