I stayed there on June 24. I had to come in around 11 because I was working and it was 90° that day. The house had some charm but the remodeling work on it especially in the first bathroom upstairs was definitely not up to code. I stayed in the presidential suite and he had a portable type of air conditioner with just the exhaust outside. Those type of air conditioners pull in air to the room for cooling the condenser so my room did not end up cooling down until about four or 5 o’clock in the morning. None of the windows in that room opened either. The owner claims that he had window experts in there and that they could not get them open (lie) I talk to the owner and write off the bat. He was on the defensive and very aggressive with his talk. He did not allow me at all to try to state my case. He was very rude very inconsiderate and had zero manners. He was at the point of yelling at me when I hung up on him. He essentially blame me for the heat in the room because I came in so late that I wasn’t able to turn on the air-conditioning early. I asked him why he didn’t do it because he knew I was coming in late and he said he wasn’t on the premises He knew that the room would be hot and that he was unable or didn’t want to come and turn the air-conditioning on. The house head charm, but there is not a straight floor or a straight wall in it. The upstairs is very sketchy, the door on the presidential suite the top is about 2 1/2 to 3 inches off on one side than it is the other To say I’ll definitely not stay there and he should have embarrassed me for my stay seeing as how it was so hot that the bed was soaked by the time I got out of it in the morning. Also, he just puts some stuff in the fridge for breakfast and doesn’t offer you a fresh hot breakfast at all. I travel a lot for work, so I stay in B&B’s quite often Needless to say this is by far the worst I’ve been in. I’m sure that he has padded his reviews on this site also because there is no way that that place...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience here at Highland. The place is clean, cozy, quiet, and very homey. The antique atmosphere makes it feel like you're sleeping in a little museum. The neighborhood it's in is just as sleepy as Highland is.
The continental breakfast isn't exactly what I was expecting - a variety of cold and frozen items in the fridge that guests pick through. Some items are made by the staff, but most aren't. Not at all a bad thing - that's more than most hotels.
Heads up for those considering staying: there isn't much in the way of parking. There are two small spots in front of the place, and the rest is on street parking along the near side of the road.
Staff were amiable and friendly when they were present, though during most of my time at the bed and breakfast, it was self-governing. This is partly my fault as I arrived a good bit later than anticipated and the staff member who was supposed to show me around had to leave before I arrived due to some personal plans he had scheduled. Aside from that, there is a familial air to the place, so conversation starts easy with staff.
My room, the Southern Spirit room, was small, but in a cozy way, which aided my sleep a good bit. I was pleasantly surprised by a small gift bag on the vanity when I arrived as well!
Overall, it was an excellent stay that made my trip even more memorable. If you're looking for a unique and antique place to stay,...
Read moreThis is a very beautiful place. There is a personal touch for everything. I was in Meadville on business and was only looking for a place to sleep. The place turned out to be right out of a Thomas Kinkade painting. The whole neighborhood is filled with trees and beautifully maintained old houses and gardens. A lot of tall trees surround the neighborhood. Although this is a residential neighborhood, there are a bunch of restaurants and other businesses within walkable distances.
Shane , the owner, also lives in the property. He is one of the nicest and most soft-spoken gentlemen we have met. I was told his mother also helps with running the facility. The food here is not just excellent , but also has a personal touch. Apparently, the mother cooks many dishes. There was a beautiful looking casserole in the refrigerator. ( I could not taste it though as I was on a no-...
