First off, the staff are extremely pleasant. I didn't meet a single staff member who wasn't helpful or couldn't answer my questions or find what I needed. When I wanted takeout from the Skye Bistro to eat in my room, they happily brought it for me. And my steak was perfectly cooked. I am happy that I got breakfast everyday that sustained me for the lengthy days that I had exams. But I felt uncomfortable on some mornings because guests would stare at me to the point where I just wanted to leave the breakfast room. I am still unsure why that happened. If it was because I choose to wear a mask indoors even though I am fully vaccinated or because I was a non-Caucasian guest. I really can't say. Could have been the former given the hot debate about mask wearing generally in the US. I walked around the area a lot because I didn't have a vehicle there are places to eat for lunch and dinner within 1-2 miles but you do have to search. It is a small town, places close very early or are not open at all maybe due to Covid maybe due to other reasons. The average townsperson or guest seemed to be above 50-60 years old and many of the stores are vintage places, flower shops or clinics, prosthetics businesses, auto shops, you get the idea. No real night life in this area. I had the first room off the lobby which wasn't ideal but it was adequate. I didn't book it for the view. I booked it based on the great reviews (which now perplex me). It's a pet friendly hotel and clearly this room had a pet in it because there was still fur stuck to the piece of carpet that ascends the wall. I'm not allergic so I didn't make a big deal out of this. The sheets smelled like wet laundry that had stayed in the washing machine for awhile. I also found strands of grey hair in the bathroom in areas that were missed by the cleaning staff and they were not my hairs of that I am sure. A major issue I did have had to do with my booking which was done through Expedia, after my 4th night I got a voicemail the next day saying I needed to move all my things because the room was given to someone else. Since I was not able to respond to that call for a few hours all my belongings were packed and placed on a luggage carrier in the room. My booking was for 5 nights. I had the e-mail to prove it yet the hotel somehow said Expedia split the booking because of a price difference from night to night. I have never had that happen before. They luckily kept me in the same room since they had evidence that I had a 5th night booked. But to me that defeats the purpose of fully cleaning the room if they knew I would stay in the same spot, why bother. I overheard the next day that this happened to another guest as well but his booking for the final night was not in the system and his stay had to be extended by the manager and he was asked to pay for that night as it was not included in his original booking. Very strange honestly.
I wouldn't give this hotel 5 stars. It is very very dated but I was comfortable, when I didn't have exam anxiety I slept peacefully. I didn't need a room with a view. I had internet, an endless supply of cold water and it was fairly easy to get a Lyft when...
Read moreCONS: The bed wasn't the most comfortable to sleep on because of it's firmness. We had people (outside) constantly walking by our room so to feel safe & comfortable we had to keep the shades & curtains closed. We had to constantly plunge the toilet! Everytime we tried to flush nothing would ever go down. The hotel staff did not plunge the toilet. We were given a plunger and told to do it ourselves! The room was rather dusty, specifically the light fixtures, around the bedroom entertainment center, the shower head & bathroom sink. There was a blown out light bulb in the bathroom upon check in which was never replaced during our stay, making the bathroom appear darker than it normally would be. The freezer in our refrigerator did not freeze anything so you can forget about ice packs or frozen dinners. Our water was warm and cold, it fluctuated. It never got hot. We received 1 set of towels/washcloths per person which wasn't enough when we were staying 2 days. It was easy to get more washclothes/towels however we had to turn in what we used ordinary to obtain a clean/new set. We had a room above us with a child who was constantly running around and screaming. The ice machine is up on the 2nd floor, all the way down the hallway near vending machines. The breakfast is in the basement! The dining room is small & tight. It gets filled up very quickly. We couldn't eat in the hotels restaurant on New Years Eve because they stopped taking reservations between 4:30pm-5:30pm due to how busy it got. They allowed families not staying in the hotel to place a reservation for the hotels restaurant therefore outsiders were allowed to eat in the dining room which took up space for those actually staying in the hotel. The room got hot very easily & quickly regardless of the temp that you placed on the rooms thermostat. The temperature wasn't easy to control in the room! If you have allergies to animals this wouldn't be the best place to stay because they do not have rooms specifically for animals or pets. Often times you are given a room that had an animal in it prior to you staying there so sadly enough your stuck breathing in animal dander.
PROS: The hotel staff was extremely polite, kind & courteous! They were wonderful to speak with especially on their down time! The front desk was quick to respond to requests for drinks (water & soda). We were allowed to take our breakfast to go (meaning to our room) because someone with me couldn't get downstairs due to health reasons. The staff were very accommodating to us! The breakfast was delicious! It was nice not hearing gunshots for once (New Years Eve/New Years Day)! The neighborhood is extremely nice! There are many shops & restaurants nearby giving you a wide...
Read moreI stayed 1 night. The room was clean, large and had everything in the room I wanted except 4 things...
I'm a single mother and was so exhausted from my 2 hour drive. My kids are well...kids. They gave me room 312 and I was impressed with the room! My first issue. I set up the couch bed for my kids but they said it was to hard and wanted to sleep in the king with me.
I never had that issue with the hotel I booked in Jamestown, NY but I let it go. Second issue. Instantly my kids complained the king bed was to hard as well. For the price, I expected something higher quality and I agreed the bed felt like a rock. Bad on my hip and back.
If it was a motel, I'd have let it go but for $147? That's a lot but told myself it's ok. I did call last minute. I decided to take a bath to fix my aches... Issue 3. To my annoyance, the lock on the bathroom door didn't work. For a place with high reviews, I thought it be better. My kids kept popping in asking me questions when I just wanted to rest and take a bath. So now I'm angry and tired...the bath not helping the tension and that leads to issue 4.
Kids are kids they start with the ..I'm hungry! It's now 8:30pm and irritated because the beds are hard and tho the tub water was amazing, the lack of a lock ruined things. So I unhappily tell the kids I saw a sign saying vending on our floor. We all walked out and looked for a machine. Nothing was there. I limp back to the elevator and head down. We did find a fridge that was locked with drinks and some candy on display at the front desk and are told there are no vending machines. I force a smile because it's not the front desks fault... I unhappily take the kids out to drive around the area till we find a gas station and get them food.
May I say the only wonderful thing that made it great was the breakfast. I woke in full pain as I couldn't sleep on that hard mattress to well and for once in my life missed my actual bed. Checking out was easy and I doubt I will return even if the rooms were large and...
