Finally a real coffee shop in Mentor!!! We were excited to check out a new coffee shop and were hoping it would be better than what was in its place before and we were very surprised! We got lattes that were actually flavored and steamed correctly.
The place is very nice, luckily the previous owners remodeled it and they kept the same style which was a very good idea. They are even extending the deck outside for more seating which is a genius move! They have a quiet conference room in the back as well for meetings or work.
We spoke to Karissa and the owner Austin and they were so nice! I was impressed at their knowledge of the craft coffee industry and they are not a fast food sugar shack coffee shop like Starbucks, Dunkin or even the new Human Bean. What I’m most excited about is the coffee roasting classes Austin is planning to do!
For years we have been wanting a true craft coffee shop in Mentor and finally it’s here so we don’t have to drive like 30 minutes away for quality coffee! Looking forward to the coffee community Calico Jack brings to Mentor and finally grow my hobby and love of coffee. If you’re in town and want quality coffee with very friendly service then this is the...
Read moreAs someone whose favorite pastimes include patronizing cute coffee shops, I really want to like this place but it just falls short for me. I don’t really understand the pirate “theme,” as there is nothing contributing to that besides the logo. The dining area has the potential to be cozy, but is lacking in seating & the predominance of those available are high-top tables & stools which are uncomfortable to sit on, let alone to try & do any sort of work from. There is a small side room with great ambiance & much more comfortable seating, if only they could carry that out into the main area more. Not to mention, the prices are pretty outrageous for the area. I understand they are a small business, but I paid $9.10(!!!!) for a 16oz matcha latte - I don’t think I’ve ever paid that much for a caffeinated drink in my life & I lived in Chicago for 3 years. Lastly, during my most recent visit, an employee was sitting in the main dining area making a call on speaker phone about paying a bill, which felt very unprofessional & disruptive IMO. This area is in desperate need of coffee shops, so I appreciate the effort, just...
Read moreReally wanted to love this place! Stumbled upon a very rude staff member today’s visit. Ordered food and waited, and waited. When we saw people come and go with their food, people eating their food and leaving, I figured I would go say something. I said, “excuse me.” Got nothing. So I proceeded just to talk and let her know we hadn’t received our bagels. I was told, “ya, the cook is backed up.” I tried to explain that it doesn’t take 25 minutes to make two bagels and she walked away. Didn’t want to listen , didn’t care. Waited a bit longer, finished our drinks and actually had to just go ask for my money back. The younger girl and guy working the register were apologetic and gave me my money back. If the older woman had just acknowledged me, maybe we could have actually received our food and been able to eat it there. Drinks were good,...
