I have to say while staying at The SpringHill Suites Miami Downtown/Medical Center my experience was extremely awful. I will provide some context to help with this review. I had rented a room for 4 days so that I could be by my husband while he was in the hospital for surgery. I planned to use the room as a place for me to rest, shower, and ease of access to the hospital. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to take you back and forth from the University Miami Hospital. I am sorry but SpringHIll’s Suites need to re-evaluate their shuttle process and personal hiring if they wish to continue to support people in need. Wednesday Night, I decided to stay at the hospital with my husband. The following morning (Thursday), I called the shuttle phone number so that I could go back to the hotel to shower and rest. Following the process, I called the driver's cellphone number, and he never answered the phone. I tried to reach him about 10 times with no answer. I called the hotel and asked the front desk to call. After waiting for an hour, the shuttle showed up. I walked up to the shuttle and tried to open the door. The driver instantly started to yell at me as if I was a child. The driver for the shuttle was unprofessional and lacked care when dealing with customer support. The hotel had only one driver who had yelled at me and caused me more emotional distress than I should have experienced. I didn’t realize that I was not allowed to touch the door. After returning to the hotel, I report the incident to the manager. I only got what felt like a half-effort apology. Because of the incident and what felt like a lack of support from the management staff, I decided to walk to the hospital and from the hospital to the hotel later that day through a scary neighborhood. The following day (Friday), I had an appointment to meet with my husband’s doctors and had to be at the hospital by 9:45 am. Following the process, I signed the clipboard for pick up by 9:15 am. The front clerk confirmed that the driver would be there by 9:15 am. I was down in the lobby around 9:08 am waiting for the driver. Around 9:25 am The driver walked to the clipboard to look at the names of people to pick up. He walked away. At 9:38 am- I asked to talk with the manager because the driver still had not shown up. Once again, half apology with no resolution to my situation. It wasn’t until 9:50 am that the shuttle driver showed up at the front of the hotel. It was saddening as a Bonvoy member of the Marriot Community, that I experienced more stress with the hotel management and staff than focusing on my husband’s efforts toward recovery. I have not included how the room was dirty and smelled. I did not include how the parking in the garage takes advantage of people with the crazy prices. If you are staying at the hospital, I recommend parking at the hospital ($8 per day) and getting it validated then dealing with the $34 per day parking at the Marriot. In the end, I cut my trip short and just ended up leaving for another hotel due to the horrible experience I encountered with the SpringHill Suites driver and...
Read moreMy experience at the hotel was calm and friendly, especially with a front desk and a housekeeping worker who unfortunately I don't remember their name; Upon our arrival (I went with my family) he explained that breakfast hours were from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, adding that it was a buffet behind the bar. On Sunday we went down for breakfast around 9:45am and a worker brought three mini sandwiches to "stuff" and I asked a worker who was cleaning the area (the same housekeeping friendly that I mentioned above) if it was possible to have one of those mini sandwich and after she kindly went to the kitchen she replied that it was not possible because they closed at 10:00 am, so my family and I accepted it as is. The next day, "Monday" we went down to have breakfast at 9:35 am, following the information I had received that it ended at 10:00 am and when we arrived a worker approached me to tell me that breakfast was already closed, I tried to explain to her that the time that I had understood was at 10:00 am, and with the cell phone that she had in her hand, she pointed at my face, without letting me even finish speaking and at the same time she told me "you are not going to know my job better than me” I withdrew with my family and I went to the front desk in search of a manager, to be able to express the mistreatment to which I was subjected. The lady who was at the front desk informed the manager that I wanted to file a complaint. While I was waiting waiting for the manager and visibly annoyed, I got up and went to the buffett again and I asked the rude woman her name, since at the time of the incident she did not have any identification on her uniform and she told me "my name is Felicia". Time passed and I was waiting for the manager , I could see the worker passing in front of me and singing as if nothing had happened. So finally the manager introduced herself and apologized for the waiting time and very, very sorry she apologized to me, and she was receptive and understanding of the situation presented. Her name is Manisa Ortiz, according to the business card she gave me. I am a Marriott worker (proudly) and I believe that no guest should be mistreated even when the guest was wrong, a Marriott worker should not have a cell phone in their hand in front of the guest, unless their position requires it. A Marriott worker should have a smile on their face when is facing a guest and ethically be respectful, if not, better not work for Marriott, so as not to...
Read moreThe overall hotel was very stylish, clean, and well kept. We found the room to be clean and very comfortable. We were very happy with the large room size and extra spaces such as a full size closet and separate toilet room. The breakfast was well-stocked and offered great variety of hot and cold food. The service was friendly and helpful. Several members of the staff went above and beyond to help us answer questions and make arrangements for transportation. We mostly enjoyed our stay there . However, the neighborhood surrounding the hotel was very poorly maintained. I expected a much better neighborhood and outdoor experience for the price. There was trash and debris everywhere surrounding the hotel. If you stayed inside the hotel only it was perfect. However, you could not enjoy the pool or outdoor seating areas due to the overwhelming smell of the neighborhood. It made us afraid to go outside. It did not make any sense to have a new and attractive hotel but not clean up the area surrounding it. There were mostly abandoned houses and trash on every corner surrounding the hotel. It smelled like sewage and rotting trash, and wild dogs were roaming nearby. Also, the hotel room was very comfortable and attractively designed. However, the attractive bathroom doors were not very functional. It had sliding barn doors, which look great, but do not lock and have a semi see-through glass. Therefore, there was no privacy because anyone could walk in and you could see every shadow of movement through the glass. This did not make it a very comfortable experience for sharing a room with children or even other adults if you wanted privacy in the shower or while using the toilet. It did not make any sense to offer attractive but pointless doors. I have to say that we did enjoy our stay there mostly but had several uncomfortable experiences due to the neighborhood and bathroom situations. It's unfortunate that this hotel is in this location because it would otherwise be an ideal hotel (minus the weird bathroom doors). I really wish that I could recommend this hotel due to the great service and good condition of the hotel itself. I would personally never stay here again due to the poor exterior conditions and awkward bathroom moments. I guess if you are traveling alone for business and have no use of the outdoor facilities, then this might be an acceptable location. If you value a safe neighborhood and comfortable restroom experience, then you may not...
