While the first floor of the mansion is quite spectacular, I found the ticket absurdly overpriced for what you receive.
The pamphlet is poorly organized, and has absolutely no specific details about the items you see in the mansion. I understand this has been a work of restoration—no details in the pamphlet about that process.
The third floor has not been restored to the same scale as other floors, and the Christmas decorations felt a little bit like a slap in the face– haphazard, cheap. The museum would be better just not allowing people to go up to the third floor and avoid embarrassment (A record player with a Nat “King” Cole album but the record player isn’t even plugged in? Just sat on a table in the middle of the room? Come on.)
I also found it very odd that there were no title placards or descriptions anywhere on the walls in the museum – I understand there can be an aesthetic desire to make the museum look like a “home,” but it actually made it really hard to appreciate and sink myself into the history. And with the very bare pamphlet, it would’ve helped deepen the experience.
Overall – just absolutely not worth a visit given the price. I really think the museum should look to redesigning their pamphlet, which is poorly labeled, poorly written and frankly, laid out in a very confusing way.
You simply cannot charge admission that is higher than a vast majority the museums that I have been to all over the world and provide such amateur experiences for...
Read moreA scheduled stop on a father son road trip of Wisconsin in 2022. I had to plan a stop here knowing we have a family relative who actually is related to the Pabst family! No, he couldn't get us free tickets but he shared many stories with us when he came here as a boy! Anyway, first stop is in the admission/visitor center situated not far from the mansion itself. The gift shop inside has plenty of Pabst merch to buy and some cool historic photos on the wall. Then, up to the mansion for our guided tour! Our guide was a feisty old bird who is the mansions longest standing tour guide! I loved her! I won't go through great detail about the tour but the mansion is something to behold! They don't make them like this anymore and the craftsmanship is stellar! The guide pointed out many things in the mansion that were quite advanced for the time period! Like an electric elevator! There is so much to see here and so much I could describe but you just need to check it out yourself! It is absolutely amazing and so very beautiful. The pace of the tour is very comfortable but sometimes we were rushed to take pictures but that will happen inn a group of 20 people! We still got plenty of photos and took in a lot of history. I highly recommend Pabst mansion to anyone! It's a must see! Lastly, it was very helpful to purchase tickets in advance. Especially because of the different times available for the tours. If you don't, you may be waiting an hour or...
Read moreVery cool place, but rude tour guide. We wanted to do the “Family Friendly” tour of the Museum, but no dates were available for when we were able to go, nor the self guided tours. So we went with the classic guided tour. We were about 15-20 minutes in, when my 10 month old twin started getting fussy/uncomfortable here and there. A few minutes later, we were told by Karen, our Tour Guide, “sorry, this isn’t going to work out, you can get a refund in the front desk”…while I understand the reasoning behind it, she was very rude about it. My relatives could have been easily pulled aside for a minute and kindly be told that we had to leave, (while I was in the back corner, not in the middle of the crowd, with the baby) but instead, it was shouted that we had to leave. While we were refunded the admission fee in full, is not really about the money, but the experience we had with this particular staff member. Are the “Family Friendly Tours” friendly… or do families also get kicked out for having babies that behave like babies? I have been to countless places and museums with my children/babies, and this is the first experience...
