The Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee: A Missed Opportunity to Explore Inside
A scheduled stop on a father son road trip of Wisconsin in 2022. I had to plan a stop here knowing we have a family relative who actually is related to the Pabst family! No, he couldn't get us free tickets but he shared many stories with us when he came here as a boy! Anyway, first stop is in the admission/visitor center situated not far from the mansion itself. The gift shop inside has plenty of Pabst merch to buy and some cool historic photos on the wall. Then, up to the mansion for our guided tour! Our guide was a feisty old bird who is the mansions longest standing tour guide! I loved her! I won't go through great detail about the tour but the mansion is something to behold! They don't make them like this anymore and the craftsmanship is stellar! The guide pointed out many things in the mansion that were quite advanced for the time period! Like an electric elevator! There is so much to see here and so much I could describe but you just need to check it out yourself! It is absolutely amazing and so very beautiful. The pace of the tour is very comfortable but sometimes we were rushed to take pictures but that will happen inn a group of 20 people! We still got plenty of photos and took in a lot of history. I highly recommend Pabst mansion to anyone! It's a must see! Lastly, it was very helpful to purchase tickets in advance. Especially because of the different times available for the tours. If you don't, you may be waiting an hour or 2 for a tour.
Holiday at the mansion. This is so beautiful and full of history. The staff is very accommodating and very helpful. They answer any questions you may have all the way to the heatung system. It is very accessible in restrooms and entryways and elevator to each floor. It is walker-friendly. the aisles are wide and comfortable. There is a marvelous gift shop and throughout the house there are areas where you are able to purchase ornaments at this time of year that are made of beeswax. You can take advantage of guided tours in tours with special lighting at night. There are not many of these types of mansions left in fact the Pillsbury Mansion is now being destroyed as it wasn't able to be kept up. As you see in the photos there are upkeeps being done here and your patronage is key to keeping Milwaukee history alive. If you are from out of town this will be one site you do not want to miss out on. If you're from Milwaukee be a tourist in your own town learn your history feel your history and if you think you liked living in Milwaukee before you will love living in Milwaukee once you learn about the Pabst Mansion and see its beauty..
Visiting this mansion was an incredible experience. While it differed from the visit to Abraham Lincoln's home, it provided a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of the wealthy during that era. If my memory serves me right, this house boasted all the modern amenities of its time. One fascinating highlight was their impressive collection of 3000 wines, carefully stored in their cellar. Unfortunately, Pabst's time in this magnificent residence was cut short, as he passed away at the age of 62. However, when you step foot into this house, you can't help but feel transported back to that era, appreciating every aspect of the way things were done. On a slightly negative note, the $16 ticket price per person felt a bit steep. Nonetheless, I assure you that the experience is worth it, as you immerse yourself in the opulence and charm of a bygone era.
This is the first time I have visited during the holiday season and it was worth it! The 50 Christmas trees throughout the house were beautifully decorated, reflecting the room colors and styles. Speaking with the tour volunteers was helpful to create the story of the entire house and family who lived here. The history it tells is fascinating and worth learning. There is parking on the grounds (in the back) but plenty right across the street also. The ticket area is next door, to the west of the Mansion now that the building annex is no longer there. Knowing that the Pabst Mansion is one of the only remaining beautiful homes from the past it is imperative that we continue to support its future. The tickets are not expensive, and a self-guided tour allows you to take your time and appreciate all the designs and furnishings have to tell us.
