— Field Station Moab is the ultimate stay for explorers and their pups! Just minutes from Arches, it’s got cozy, gear-ready rooms, a pool and hot tub with stunning red rock views, and fire pits perfect for starry nights. There’s an on-site café for bites, beers and coffee, a gear and bike shop for last-minute essentials, and even guided tours to help you plan your next desert adventure. Dogs are welcome almost everywhere (except the pool), so your best adventure buddy can join the fun too! And one of the more affordable places to stay in the area. #hotels #moabutah #utah

Where to start with this place. Field Station (I mean “Fail Station”) in Moab was definitely the low point (and only low point, unfortunately) of our trip.

This place is basically a glorified hostel / Motel 6. Actually, I think we would have been way better off at Motel 6.

The way this place is presented via their website, in my opinion, like a hipster motel and cool vibes place and comfortable place to stay. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In reality, this is what I would call a “meatball sundae.” Meaning the pictures look good from an individual room perspective and fixed up a common area. But underneath that – it’s a bunch of meatballs.

These are the issues with the hotel. And if you’re staying here – especially expecting to get a good night sleep, I would absolutely look elsewhere:

  1. The noise is atrocious. There’s no sound insulation. If you’re on the 1st floor you are going to hear every step and every noise from upstairs.

  2. After making a reservation requesting the most quiet room they had and also requesting upon check in – they put us in what is probably the noisiest room in the hotel - right by an entrance and on the 1st floor. Between that and the constant noise from upstairs – and literally zero sound insulation in the hallway and hearing everything outside our room – it made for an unpleasant and non-restful stay. You should consider this if you’re doing a lot of activities and need a peaceful sleep. This is not it.

  3. On that note, from what is showing as picture 1 on Google reviews – this is NOT the view at the hotel. There is no view. The hotel is actually right by a 4 lane highway going through town – with no sound insulation – you’re going to hear traffic all night long.

  4. The shower is a JOKE. Like literally it’s some type of mist spray with barely any water pressure. I’ve been in over 300 hotels – never experienced anything like this.

  5. Don’t expect anything – literally ANYTHING in your hotel room outside of soap and towels. I had brought a nice bottle of wine to enjoy the view (there is no view) and not only did they not have any glasses, but they didn’t have cups of any kind – except for some mouthwash sized dixie cups. What? There’s also no coffee, tea, corkscrew, etc. They do have complimentary coffee in the common area…but it seems like this place went over the top on “how can we be as bare bones as possible and not do anything.”

  6. There is a refrigerator in the room – however, like most budget refrigerators – the compressor kicks in every hour or so … there’s also no way to unplug it. So that’s noise upon noise if you are a light sleeper.

  7. On that note, there is NO CLEANING SERVICE / room make up – UNLESS you want to pay for it? What? Facts (I think it's an extra $25 per).

  8. The shower “soap” station is rusty and grody (see photos, if I can post).

  9. There’s no direct line to the front desk. Any issues you have to walk over and address it. Of which – we had plenty.

To lend insult to injury, I complained the first night of the issues. They responded via email and said they would take care of the 2 unused nights, which I thought was appropriate. Apparently, they wrote the email incorrect and what they didn’t say was “only if you check out immediately” … so we stayed thinking we had been comped a few nights – and then turns out they would not honor that.

In summary – this place in my opinion is not a motel, hotel or anything like it. It’s really closer to a youth hostel with a “hipster” common area. If you’re here to do things in Moab and just have a place to crash – and don’t care about noise and zero amenities in the room – then maybe this place is for you.

Now below, I’ll leave space for the manager to say something ridiculous and unwarranted on the “positive” side…like “…but we have a ping pong table.” I will never come back here again.

On the upside – I’m giving a 5 star rating to Twisted Jeeps who were amazing – and also Birdy’s which is on the same lot of “farcical station” where we had 2...

Horrendous Experience at Field Station Moab - AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS

Our stay at Field Station Moab was nothing short of a complete disappointment. From the moment we checked in, we encountered issue after issue, all of which were handled with incompetence and indifference by the hotel staff, even they were Friendly.

First, we were shocked to find that the hotel erroneously charged us twice for the room deposit, blocking a total of $300 on our credit card, instead of $150. When we brought this to their attention, the staff was friendly but dismissive, insisting that there was "nothing they could do" and that the amount would be released "sometime after we check out" – within 7-12 days. This is utterly unacceptable and downright dishonest. As paying guests, we expect better treatment and immediate resolution of such glaring mistakes.

To make matters worse, the service at this hotel is far below any acceptable standard. On one occasion, our room wasn't cleaned at all – no fresh towels, no bed made, no trash taken out. When we inquired about this at the front desk, we were politely informed that we needed to request housekeeping services. Nowhere in the hotel or during check-in was this policy communicated to us. Instead of addressing the issue, they simply handed us a set of towels and did nothing further to rectify the situation. This kind of service is disappointing and falls far short of what we expected.

What’s even more outrageous is that we attempted to escalate the matter by reaching out directly to the General Manager, Rebecca C.. Unfortunately, she completely ignored our request and never returned our call, even it was promised by the staff. This lack of response from the management shows a blatant disregard for guest concerns and is utterly unprofessional.

Field Station Moab clearly has no interest in providing even the most basic standards of hospitality. While the staff was friendly, their actions were insincere, and it was evident they were merely trying to stall us rather than genuinely resolve our issues. We urge anyone considering staying here to look elsewhere. This hotel does not deserve your business.

STAY AWAY!

UPDATE: Even Worse Than the Original Incident - Field Station Moab Back in August, I posted my 1-star review about my stay at Field Station Moab, and now, months later, I receive a response that only deepens my disappointment. During my stay, I repeatedly attempted to contact management to find solutions to the issues I outlined in detail. No one from management – including the General Manager, Rebecca C. – ever responded to my attempts, despite promises made by the management’s secretariat that I would receive a callback. Now, after all this time, I’m given an apology that merely tries to shift the blame onto the staff. The real issue, however, lies not with them but with a management team that refused to take responsibility when it mattered. As we say in Germany, "The fish rots from the head down," and this couldn’t be more true here. The problem wasn’t that mistakes were made – that happens. The real issue was the management’s failure to address these mistakes when they were brought to their attention. It was this ignorance and lack of professionalism that ultimately made our stay such a disappointing experience. It’s shameful that only now is there a response, and one that gives the impression that the staff was solely responsible for...

The room itself was clean and adequate. The customer service was atrocious. I called ahead a couple of days before arriving to try to get early check in, and the girl on the phone told me that it shouldn't be a problem and she put me down for it in the system. Our plane ended up getting a little bit delayed so we got there at 3:45 p.m., only 15 minutes before regular check in. We had to quickly change clothes to get off to an excursion that we had booked, so when we arrived I figured we would just be able to go into the room. Not the case, the girl at the front said our room wasn't ready yet and it wouldn't be until 4:30. There was no apology, no sympathy, just flat out said we couldn't get in the room until at least 4:30, there was another girl at the front desk who was overhearing the situation and offered to keep track of our bags until we could come back later to check in, but we ended up just taking our bags back into the rental car with us. To add insult to injury, when we arrived back at the hotel at about 8:30 p.m., the girl that offered to take our bags did the check in with me, and she looked at her computer and asked "did your plans change? It shows here that you requested early check-in." REALLY?! Let's just rub some salt on that open wound, haha. I wish that the poor customer service ended there, but that was only the beginning. The next day I tried to purchase some things from the gift shop, and was waiting at the front desk. There was a guy working there who saw me, and said to hang on a couple of minutes because he was finishing up an order at the cafe. After finishing that order at the cafe, there were two other people that came up to the cafe to make orders, they had clearly arrived there after I was already waiting to check out. He took the time to help both of them before coming back to help me, it just seemed very rude to make me wait there when I was there before the other people at the cafe. To make matters even worse, I requested a change of bedding for one of our beds, and he said they don't routinely do that and it would be an extra charge. I didn't mind paying the extra charge, which is kind of absurd because it's a hotel and they should be able to change some bedding if you need it, but he just danced around the situation and ended up telling me to just pick up a change of bedding at the front desk. When I arrive later that evening to pick up the change of bedding, he handed me one single sheet, instead of two sheets and a comforter, which would be a set of bedding. Overall, the customer service was absolutely horrible and all three of the employees that I interacted with at the front or just very unsympathetic, and clearly didn't try to do anything to go the extra mile to make our stay pleasant. Super horrible experience, would never...
