My experience at this Holiday Inn was pretty bad. A few things were pretty egregious and while some were outside the control of the hotel management, others were not.
First, the staff was very pleasant and friendly. I don't have any complaints about the way I was treated by them. In fact, their jobs are probably made significantly more difficult by dint of the quality of the hotel that they work at.
There were a few big things and quite a few minor things that added up to make this hotel stay distinctly unpleasant.
The internet - incredibly slow. Both wired and wireless networks were terrible. (Big)
The hot water - my room's hot water lasted approximately 2 minutes. Not enough for a decent shower and definitely not enough for a bath. (Big)
The AC - made loud, odd noises and emitted strange smells. The room became unbearable if it was turned off. (Big)
The breakfast - I went without breakfast just because it was so bad. Again - the staff was great, but the quality of the food was incredibly poor. Everything was greasy or packaged or incredibly sweet or a combo of the three. Not at all healthy. (minor)
Recognition for IHG Rewards members. I don't expect a lot or even want a lot of attention, but there was little to no recognition that I have, over the years, contributed to HI's bottom line. (minor)
Elevator speed. This isn't a big area but it shouldn't take an elevator 30 seconds to go 6 floors. I'm not saying I want whiplash, but I think I raced up the stairs faster than the elevator went. Which is fine when I want to exercise, but not when I'm in a hurry. (minor)
The "fitness center" was absymal. It smelled strongly of chlorine and the lack of pretty much anything that was related to fitness or really anything in the room was pretty sad. (minor)
Again - this was a distinctly memorable (in a bad way) stay for me and I wouldn't wish it on anyone else. The staff was great - but the facilities left a lot...
Read moreDear [Hotel Management],
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent stay at the Holiday Inn. Unfortunately, my experience was severely marred by both poor service and unacceptable noise levels.
From 10/8, I immediately noticed a significant and disturbing resonance noise that persisted throughout my stay. The noise was so loud and constant that it made it nearly impossible to sleep or relax. On 10/8 night, I reported this issue to the front desk staff. However, the night shift staff member on duty seemed unwilling to assist me in resolving this problem.
On the evening of October 12th, I once again brought the other issue to the attention of the night shift staff. To my dismay, the staff member I spoke with was extremely dismissive and their attitude was nothing short of rude. Their unwillingness to address my complaint was both unprofessional and unacceptable.
I expect a higher level of service from a hotel of your reputation. The noise issue not only disrupted my sleep but also significantly impacted my overall stay. I believe that the staff's lack of urgency and their poor attitude have further compounded the problem.
I am requesting that you take immediate action to address this matter. I would like a full refund for my stay, as well as a written apology for the inconvenience and distress caused. I would also appreciate it if you could investigate this matter further and take steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
I look forward to your prompt and satisfactory...
Read moreBoth times we had to check in after 10:00 p.m. The woman at the front desk wasn't helpful and didn't even greet us when we walked in, and we were the only people in the lobby! I'm thinking she is not perhaps, the right person for that job. She was not forthcoming with any direction whatsoever. Asking her questions and getting answers was like pulling teeth. She did not inform us that we needed to sign up for the shuttle to the airport and therefore we had to wait for a later one, throwing us off schedule, we asked her about it, she barely answered our question with just a simple, "yeah it drives all day". She barely spoke to us. We had to ask about the park and fly option that we signed up for, she told us nothing. Upon returning from our trip, we told her we just got back from Costa Rica and she said, oh no, that's one place I never want to go. We really don't care where she wants to go, we just thought how unprofessionally rude that comment was at the time. She may be a very nice lady outside of work, I don't know, I'm just saying this may not the right job for her and I'm surprised that the Holiday Inn would want her as a representative of their business. I must say, the gentleman who worked the night shift into the early morning hours was a pleasure, had a great sense of humor and was very informative. The two gentlemen we met who drove the airport shuttles were absolutely delightful! It was really the front desk woman who was borderline rude and...
