Disappointed with my experience. Posting a review so others can be forewarned. We were going to get a mattress from a DTC company (nectar, Casper, etc etc) but decided to go to a mattress store to try them out first. Ended up liking a more traditional mattress more so we ended up buying one that was an outlet (previously used and returned) mattress, and purchased the option for the 120 day trial since we wanted a little insurance.
When the mattress showed up, it was packaged HORRIBLY. Super tight plastic wrap and tape so it was bent in a U shape and totally crumpled, which is not good for a spring mattress. I can only surmise it’s been like that for months because when we unpacked it the mattress was all bumpy and deformed. There is also a hole torn in one corner with wood splinters embedded in it.
When I looked into the 120 day trial period policy, turns out they charge you $100 to pick it up and a 20% restocking fee (hundreds of dollars)! This was not explained to us at all by the salesman (I’m sure to protect his commission). The DTC companies are far more forgiving-nectar for example will pick up the mattress free for a full refund for up to a YEAR.
The mattress we tried out was a bit more comfortable than the nectar tried in store so we went with it. I’m hoping the deformity from the awful packaging resolves over time, but today I’m wondering if it would have been better if I’d just purchased online from nectar or another company that puts their customer first. I’ll likely be avoiding big-box mattress stores in the future.

We bought a new queen sized mattress, base and headboard. Our delivery was scheduled for 3 days after we purchased. When the delivery arrived the base and the box it was in was completely torn up. The delivery driver was kind enough to bring it to my attention. So it was sent back and we had to reschedule the delivery. After that, we were clearly NOT a priority. We were told not once but twice we would receive a callback to reschedule and that never happened. So I had to call in and be a jerk and demand a new delivery date soon. It seems that mattress firm took my kindness for weakness. We got the new delivery date, which was 2 days later. On this delivery we were told that the delivery people are NOT able to attach a headboard, and this was not what the salesperson John told us. Also mattress firm sent the WRONG BRACKET for the headboard. I attempted to call mattress firm only to be notified that “all sleep experts are busy assisting customers at this time, would you like to leave a message”. So now I’m waiting to make my THIRD DELIVERY DATE AND TIME and Mattress Firm has still NOT MADE THEIR MISTAKE RIGHT! I will never buy from them again. Ever.
