Finally found a halal food truck in the Triangle: in Morrisville, NC to be precise, next to a Mobil gas station, JB Biryani, and a few other small businesses. The food truck wasn't very visible when we passed by Chapel Hill Rd., but thanks to Google Maps, we were able to locate this hidden gem, and it turned out to be one of our the best food discoveries in 2025.
The first time we tried a halal food truck was in New York City back in August 2023, and the delicious lamb & chicken with rice surprised our taste buds. Since then, I'd been craving for a halal food truck in the Triangle area of NC, and my wish came true.
Tasty Halal Eats captures the authentic halal flavors in its chicken & lamb combo, which comes with yellow rice, lettuce, tomatoes, green chiles, hot sauce & white sauce. I only ordered 1 $12+ chicken & lamb combo for me & my girl to share at home, and I wish I ordered more after we tasted it. The chicken & lamb meat were cut in small pieces & mixed well with the spiced rice & other ingredients to create a stunning halal experience.
It was served in a small styrofoam takeout box, about the same size as the one we tried in NYC. When I went to order, the server named Mohamed asked to wait for them to cook fresh meat. I parked right across the Mobil gas station close to it, and I waited in the winter cold while I noticed other customers pick up food. They probably ordered by phone in advance.
It's a food truck but I wish there were outdoor seats & tables outside. Tasty Halal is clearly made for a takeout experience. After 10 min. of waiting, my food was ready, and Mohamed asked if I want hot sauce, and I said, "Yes, please", to which he responded by pouring the hot sauce from a sauce bottle over my food. I asked how long they've been in business, and he said, a year. It's nice to see that Tasty Halal also does catering, as shown on its black food truck with flame designs. The menu looks clear with photos on the food truck, and they also serve non-halal foods like zinger chicken burger and chicken tenders. I paid in cash and left a tip in their jar.
My girl & I devoured the 1 chicken & lamb combo, and I told her that we will order 2 next time, and trust me, there will be a bunch of next times. I also told my mom, whom we've experienced halal food in NYC with, about this food truck, so we will likely share an updated review with her reaction in the near future.
I'm thankful that we no longer have to travel to NY to experience authentic halal street food. It's already here in the...
Read moreFolks....seriously -- do you want chain food where the sauce comes in packets shipped from New York, or do you want real deal NY-style halal cart food made with love and served by nice gentlemen? I know what line I'M going to be in, and it's the one for this food truck tucked into an Exxon station at the corner of Morrisville Parkway and Chapel Hill Road.
I'll be honest -- I can only comment on the lamb over rice plate, because every time I go there (and it's nearly every Wednesday) it calls me despite my resolve to this time try the chicken seekh kebab or the channa over rice or the chicken over rice. I have no doubt that I'd be happy with any of them. It's just that the lamb, which is essentially chopped gyro, is that good, and evokes happy memories of my young years eating lamb and chicken with rice from the carts in New York City.
I think the lamb gyro meat is made in-house rather than being the big rotisserie thing that you can get from restaurant stores. Now I love that carved-off-the-spit stuff, but this meat is slightly less garlicky and salty, and a bit more redolent of cumin, than the other stuff and it's clearly made with love and care. It's easily two satisfying meals for 14 bucks (2025 price).
It's a food truck, so it's get-it-to-go only, but don't let the entry of Those Guys From New York drive these guys out of town, or you'll have to answer to me -- the very short gray-haired lady who goes there on Wednesdays. These are good people. They and their food deserve...

I recently visited this halal food truck with moderate expectations, but unfortunately came away with mixed feelings about the experience.
The Good The truck had a decent location and the service was reasonably quick. The portion sizes were generous, and the meat appeared to be well-prepared and flavorful. The rice and vegetables were fresh and properly cooked.
The Disappointing Unfortunately, what really brought down the entire meal were the sauces - arguably the most important component of any good halal cart experience. The white sauce, which should be creamy and tangy, tasted rancid and had an off-putting flavor that made it nearly inedible. Even worse was the hot sauce, which was genuinely terrible - lacking any real heat or flavor complexity, and tasting more like watered-down ketchup than a proper spicy condiment.
Final Thoughts For a cuisine where the sauces can make or break the dish, having both signature sauces fall flat is a serious problem. The meat and rice were decent enough to prevent this from being a complete disaster, but I can't recommend this truck when the sauces - which should elevate the meal - actively detract from it.
The truck has potential if they can address their sauce quality issues, but until then, there are better halal...
