We (wife and I and out two kids) stayed at this location over Memorial Day Weekend 2021 while in town for a family wedding. I shopped around a bit before booking, and this hotel was comparatively priced based on other hotels in the area with similar amenities.
Overall, I would say we were pleased with the hotel. The building seemed relatively new and was pretty clean. Rooms were about what you'd expect. Staff was friendly. The pool was pretty small, but we visited some other hotels where other family members were staying, and their pools were about the same size.
I would definitely stay here again, but there were three (3) minor things which, if fixed, would have made the experience even better.
The first is that the closet in our room had a handful of Cheerios on the floor when we checked in, which leads me to believe that housekeeping did not check or clean the closet when they turned over the room between guests.
The second issue was that on our second-to-the-last day, housekeeping did not visit our room at all. I would have contacted the desk about it, but we were out all day and did not get home until late in the evening. The days before that, housekeeping had always come and had done a nice job of straightening up the room. Having them miss one day is certainly not the end of the world, but it is kind of a bummer to get back to your room to take a shower and not have clean, dry towels to use and have full trash cans.
The third issue is, in my opinion, the biggest problem, even though it is not related to the staff or the service. Right outside the pool area is a little area with some tables and chairs where you can sit and visit or eat some food you brought in, etc. It is under some trees and is on top of a cobblestone-type patio. It would be a really nice spot to hang out, especially because it is shaded and out of the hot South Carolina sun. The problem is that this area is also the designated smoking area, so there is almost always somebody sitting there smoking, which makes it tough to want to spend much time there. Plus, because it is adjacent to the pool area, even though the pool area is non-smoking, if the breeze is blowing the right direction, all the smoke from the smoking area just comes right over to the pool. Again, not the end of the world, but certainly something which I think, if corrected, would make that space and the pool area more inviting and comfortable.
As I said before, overall, we were pretty satisfied with the hotel and would probably stay there again in spite of the things I mentioned here. I just think that if those things had been fixed, it would have been an even...
Read moreFor me my stay here was not horrible but not the best. One thing that was very annoying was that for whatever reason they have the elevators dinging very loudly all throughout the day and night.. I have seen this in the past with the "old school" style hotels years ago but current day an within the past 10-15year most places do not have them on or that loud. They were loud to the point I could hear them dinging all throughout the night each night of my stay anytime someone got off on my floor. It was ridiculous. Also when we arrived to our room which happened to be late around 1030pm the bathroom looked clean to the naked eye but had a foul stench as is hadn't been cleaned good. You would think if that room had been cleaned and sitting vacant for several hours with no one in it. the bathroom should have had several hours to air out and should smell fresh or at least smell like nothing so as a whole that had me skeptical as to the cleanliness of the overall room. Everything else appeared to be in decent working order and clean enough, but they definitely did not spray anything to refresh or leave a pleasant scent in the room or bathroom. The room itself didnt stink like the bathroom did, but was very stale and unpleasant. We actually burned a small candle to improve overall smell each day and it helped. So to say the least this experience was less than favorable. " The areas i will give credit to are the beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the continental breakfast was great. They had good options and breakfast food quality was not super cheap like some. But it very unlikely that I would stay here again and I would not recommend this place unless you are an extremely hard sleeper that isn't bothered by loud sounds in the middle of the night, or you don't mind your rooms cleanliness being questionable. Me personally id prefer both cleanliness and to have a mostly quiet stay. But hey everyone is different and likes...
Read moreThe location of this hotel is perfect for exploring Charleston. It's in a safe environment, has easy access to stores for food and resupply, and sets guests up for a short drive over the bridge into town. We've stayed in nicer beds, but these were adequate. The doors tend to slam a little loud at night, but it wasn't unbearable. Breakfast was satisfying, but the nights we were there (end of December) brought in a lot of leisure guests that seemed to overwhelm the breakfast facility. They were out of forks, for example, and the line for the food was uncomfortably long. The pancake machine produced tasty pancakes, but instructions on how to use it were not good. One guest pushed the button once and waited for a pancake, then pushed it again. The key is to push the button as many times as pancakes desired. Then wait for the batch. Our room had only three towels for four people. A call to the front desk quickly fixed that. Parking was ample and my wife and I felt comfortable walking across the street to get some dinner from Whole Foods. Cleaning staff seemed fully occupied and possibly a little overtasked, but no one was rude or abrupt. Eggs were in the form of pre-made and warmed American cheese omelettes. Sausage were patties and also pre-made. Neither were unpleasant, but don't expect a fresh custom made breakfast. Cereals, fruit, breads, yogurt, and juices from a machine were also available. This hotel has made attempts to go green. Toilets have "liquid" and "solid" settings to save on water. Lights are energy efficient. The TV has two HDMI ports in the back and wifi is free. This helped settle the kids as we could stream their favorite show via netflix. Beds are industrial quality. Enough to allow sleep, but not anything to brag to friends about. They were not as bad as other hotels for transferring motion between couples. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. I would also likely stay here again when...
